Thank you so much for all the info and great links! I'll go read about the types and see which one will work for me.

I live a little more than an hour south of the Columbus, OH Dick Blick. I'll sign up for their coupons online and wait until I receive a good in-store one. My oldest son goes to Ohio State, so next time we visit I'll make sure we allot enough time for a side trip to DB!

Thanks again!!!

If you get a good coupon, call them to see what they have or could get for you ... the store stuff is not related to what they have online in my experience, and the stores do not carry the same things. If they order online for you from the store, they charge shipping.

Re not having the same stuff, I've been to 2 (Chicago Loop and Lincoln Park). The Loop store pretty consistently has the manga set and every single marker of every type, plus Sketch and Ciao sets of 12 and the 4 72-markers sets, plus a decent amt of multi-liners. Lincoln Park has the 72-markers sets and all the markers, but also has every multi-liner, the multi-liner set, and all the replacement nibs. I don't know if the differences are bc the stores are very close and the Loop one is right by a big art school, or if all the stores are different. It's not worth my while to go to Evanston (the other local store, north of Chicago) to check it out since I live downtown and Evanston is still in Cook County, land of the insanely high taxes, but if I am out there, I'm sure I will be drawn in at some point!

If you go, bring test paper with you. They have rolls of coated paper that does not show color accurately. You will want to test while you're there to either (1) pick up a few more markers or (2) create a wishlist in case you want to order online. If you do get full price markers, the 10% off card that costs $10 (unless you are a teacher or student, it's free OOH! did you say your son was in college!!!! Mom gets custody of his card!) works on that but not if you already are using a coupon. They mail good coupons if you have the card. You show ID to get it for free, but the card is like a supermarket one and does not have your name on it or anything like that.

Ok...I got a deal on a huge lot of new Sketch....and finally I filled in the rest of my color chart...I also listed my doubles on BST if anyone is looking for cheaper Sketch Markers.

Please remember monitors are different, however if the colors look the same on the chart...they will in real life...so this is for comparison purposes only.

I sometimes like to use silver, gold or bronze colors. Do they come in the copics? I couldn't seem to find them on the color chart.

No metallic Copics, sorry. There are glitter pens that Copic makes, the Spica pens, but they are not alcohol inks. they're pretty though!

Default printable 40% in store Dick Blick coupon!!!!

This is good from 1/9 to 1/11 and is printable. So you know I will be visiting several times! Hope this link works but if not, I can try again. Whooo-hooo!

http://www.dickblick.com/stores/prom...ntfriendly.asp

The email I got also said that they have added a lot of stuff to the online clearance section (the coupon above, however, is an in-store one).

Also...

They are different. I personally like them more, but "better" is personal preference! Here is a blog post I read that I thought was right on the money:

http://prairiepaperandink.typepad.co...spica-gli.html

The Spicas lay down really flat, and have a superfine sparkle that dries quickly. They are better for detail work IMO when coloring, and they are SO pretty. Not to enable, but they are really, really nice. I use mine constantly. If you were getting just one, I'd get the clear, as that is the most versatile and will allow your coloring to show through. That being said, however, I use all of mine all the time, as one cannot have too much sparkle!

I have a Question was figuring some of you experts could answer. Can the colorless blender fix a problem when you've inadvertently drawn outside a line (out of stamp completely vs. inside stamped image, where I have fixed prob fairly easily with blender pen). I'm just messing around right now, so not taking much time and with a dark red pen went out of stamp onto the bright white card stock. The blender pen helped but thusfar (2 applications) there's still a light pink spot there - will it eventually fade it to nothing ot does this just become an image if I were doing for real, that I'd be cutting out? Thanks

There's really no way to get it out if it's in the middle of nowhere. You can try soaking it with blender with a tissue underneath to absorb extra, but you might have something that needs to be hidden and can't be fixed.

I am not completely sure of this but I think I read somewhere that you have to let the spot you "erased" with the blender dry completely and then try again.

Thanks everyone
Marianne, love your blog but havent had enough time to get thru it all yet

The blender pen does great things. It may also work better if the color wasnt as dark - again, was just trying to experiment, so this is no big deal. I have been surprised how much it did disappear it tho! Ultimately I def need to find the coloring 101 discussion (which I think is on your blog Marianne... ) as I DEF need lots of practice Thanks again

Yes, do this a few times, but on some spots it still won't completely erase.

I need help picking some green colors! The color chart online does not seem to be accurate on my monitor!

I have Forest Green, which in no way resembles a forest, Lettuce Green which is MUCH brighter than I thought it would be, and Moss Green, which is the only one I really like. I want some that are more subtle yet bright enough for grass and foliage . . . any suggestions?

I think you may like YG63 Pea Green....is is lighter than your moss, and I love it. It is a much softer green. G21 Lime Green and G24 Willow is also nice...but are very close to Pea Green.

Also if you want a brighter green than your Moss, I would try YG23 New Leaf. It is similar to a Gable Green/Green Galore SU paper color. Which is also nice. Great for spring....

Full of Q's the past few days.. Marianne, others, would anyone know if these markers are easily available, less costly in Japan/other Asian countries? I have a friend traveling to Korea in a few days and another stationed there and was just wondering? I'd love to go into one of those comic shops where they feature all the Manga artwork.. Also, sorry (little OT here )... is the Pokemon character/card game considered Manga (I was thinking it was)... even tho I dont really know what I'm doing , having so much fun with these markers !!

I'm not sure about pricing in Asia- some people say yes, much cheaper, others say no. Probably depends on the exchange rate (right now the dollar is weak to the yen so it might not be a good time to find a bargain)

As for grass, I like darker grass, so YG17 or G85 are good.

Pokemon, Digimon, Speed Racer, Sailor Moon, Transformers, Hamtaro... just to name a few, are all Manga (printed comics) as well as Anime (cartoons) from Japan. I just gave a 1 1/2 hr lecture on the history of Manga/Anime but I won't bore you with the details

Marianne - or anyone....what markers would you choose for coloring a moon? I have the most adorable image. It's Crafty Individuals/Magenta's "Fly me to the Moon." - cling mount rubber. I have a huge stash of Copics, and I just can't seem to come up with anything that looks quite 'right.'

I'd say for a moon, E40, E41, W1,2,or3, with a few hints of C2 to add variation. Grrrr... now I feel that I have to do a tutorial on coloring the moon

Marianne - thank you so very much for the swift reply! Would you really consider doing a tutorial on coloring a moon? I'm going to pull these colors you've suggested and play - believe I have them all - won't be the same as having a step-by-step, but maybe I can 'wing it.'

Spicas seem to be a little more subtle, not quite so sparkly, in my opinion.

I like the Stardust pens better and I have both.

Check these out. I only have the clear, gold and silver, but I love, love them. I think the clear is my very favorite. They lay down a nice glittery line. I use them to outline my images sometimes for a little bit of sparkle.

I love it! Those colors are perfect!

Do you ever draw art to be made into rubber stamps? (Like you are running out of things to do! LOL)

On the jelly roll pens, I have a few but can't get them to work. I can see the ink in the tube, but it's like it's all dried up. Any suggestions. Also, I need a good "white" pen to add highlights. What would I use?

Ohhhh how I'd love to be artistic (ok I've read your recent posts and know somewhere I've got something kind of artistic going but... )

You are awesome and love your website. Thanks for all the great info! Great moon!

Hi there! Beachbound just showed me the way to this thread, so here I am. I recognize a few names on here from a few other threads I'm on ... Gale, Sandy.......

I am addicted to Copics. There, I've said it. Admitting it is the first step to recovery, right?? Ok ... forget it. I don't WANT to recover ......

I have 70+ Copics - a mix of Ciao and Sketch. I'm quite happy with all of them. I've even gotten my 12 year old son addicted.

I'm on here to get info and tips. I can sure use them.

Copic addiction is a serious problem they need to come with a warning label:

Caution: However many Copic markers you have are still not enough. They are highly addictive and will make you feel creatively better each time you use them. Do not color on an empty stomach (it jiggles too much and will be hard to color). Take with a glass of water (anything stronger will keep you awake and coloring longer).

Consult your LSS if you notice any of the following symptoms: Desire for more colors. Dryness of marker. Need for more stamps to color. Friends to tell about your addiction. Loss of appetite or sleep due to excessive coloring.
