I have never used an item like this, but think I would really like it! I mainly make greeting cards, but like to make "gifts" also. Is it worth the money? What all will I need to purchase?
I don't have one either and don't really want it. I don't make little books or scrapbooks, just mainly cards and sometimes little cute gift boxes. I know I wouldn't use it enough to justify it.

I have it and love it! You can create some very lovely books and even boxes.
You will want the BIA of course which comes in blue and pink, you'll need chipboard to make the books, acrylic works great too, you can use their binding coils that come in great colors though you could use ribbon to tie your books. I suggest you visit their website and completely love their idea book, alot of ideas in that fair priced book.
I don't think I'd use one much. They look pretty cool, but I don't make many books.
I would, however, like to find someone to make a sketchbook with it for me with Gina K paper. I'd use it for my Copic practices. Marianne, the Copic Queen, suggests having a book with color combos in it. Since I really like using Gina K cardstock for my Copic creations, I want to have a book with that.
All you retailers out there, I think there is a market for something like this, based on all the Copic posts I see...
ok- I have one, haven't used it but that is because of time constraits but come summer I will use it a great deal to bind some little books I have designed........and even if I don't use it..........I like to have it.

Card Sketch Challenge 1-227 done only 396+ to go to be caught up!!!!!
I have it and its great! Make albums from lunch bags to something I saw here-toilet rolls.
You dont have to get the binding wires, just use ribbon or rings. Make album covers from acrylic and cardboard (spray with acid neutraliser if your worried) as well. Use it to make personal gift albums. In a scrapbook you could bind photos together for a mini flip book, with plenty of space for PP, embellishments and journaling.
depends on what types of projects you like to make...
i don't think it would be very practical for cards - i held off from buying one for quite awhile, i always do a cost analysis of big $ tools - how many of X would i need to make before it would be cost effective for me to own this thing! LOL!
i teach scrapbooking classes so i figured i could use it in classes, and i make a LOT of mini albums and altered journals and such for myself and for gifts.
the wires are inexpensive, so i figured i'd probably make enough stuff to justify the cost AND i get a discount at my LSS.
but at 75.00 for just the unit, you'd have to make 75 projects before they would cost you just a $1 a piece to bind! and that's not taking into account the wires.
that's why i won't buy a cricket, wishblade, etc... i figured i'd have to make 200 to 300 diecuts before they cost me $1 a piece - and that's pretty high for a diecut! like if i spelled SUMMER - that would be $6! LOL!

You can live without it by using the Crop-A-Dile to punch holes and buy the o-wires from a store but I don't know how you'd close the o-wires so they would look nice. At first, I couldn't get the wires to close properly with my BIA but I tinkered with it until I figured it out. I've made more with it than I thought I would. It's just another toy in my crafting arsenal.

I think you probably can live without a BIA. However, I do have one, paid full price and have only used it a handful of times. If I had a redo, I would buy the o wires and use a crop a dile and then gently bend the wires down by hand. Unless you are making a lot of mini books, or note books as gifts, then it might be useful and I would get it at HL with a 40% coupon. LOL

I have one, and love it. I use it from time to time. To make different kinds of books, mini or large and medium books. I also use it when my son needs some projects in school and organize his papers and so on.

Thanks!
why not check with your LSS and see if they have it, and when you need to use it borrow it in their studio?
I have one and love it. I love to make small themed books so it is perfect for that. It does give a very professional look to my books and people are always amazed that I did it myself! I would certainly use a coupon with it although I bought it soon after it came out and paid full price.

Do you have link for the lunch bag and toilet roll sample?

I don't smoke or drink so look at all the money saved!! I look at it this way it is a healthy vise to buy things we love for our craft. It keeps us from therapy and in the long run is way cheaper. You can smoke 75 dollars worth of cigs and not have anything but lung cancer to show for it. The wonderful gifts you can make and the joy you get out of making them is priceless.
Can you live without it........of course you can. Most things in life we can life without. 75 dollars is not going to change anyones lifestyle I don't think if they save it as opposed to spending it.

How did you figure out how to make the o-wires completely round? Mine aren't. What's the "tinkering" secret?
Now I don't want to make this decision harder, but I had the BIA and sold it because of the cost of the coils, length of time it took to punch larger projects and difficulty of bending the coils.
I bought a rubi coil and LOVE it....it is more expensive in the beginning but i can make all sorts of journals, "catalogs" for my stamp sets, I spiral bind all my catalogs as well as my friends and customers if they wish (3.00)...I got mine at the laminator warehouse if you want to check it out. I have bought tons of coils plastic but much cheaper..and have even shared with another gal on here who had different ones than I did.
Good luck on your decision
