Does anyone know if putting that SirCuts whatever software onto the cricut makes the cartridges quit working?
Im thinking about getting one and want to be able to use my own files on it, but I cant see buying a new one and completely breaking it...
any ideas?
also what the difference in the versions?
that expressions is WAY high!
Hi. Not sure if I completely understand everything you are asking however I can answer the first question. Installing SCAL (sure cuts a lot) software does not in anyway damage or harm your cricut machine or cricut cartridges. I would highly recommend it to anyone who owned a cricut machine!
I agree, check out Make The Cut, easier to use & Andy works hard to get us the features we want. Just today we got an update with shadow feature & importing SVG's to their full size. Among other things, but these are the two I was really interested in. http://www.make-the-cut.com/?ref=fh
I have tried both SCAL and Make The Cut. Both are basically the same. SCAL has just released a new update which is free to those own own SCAL. I have tried both SCAL and MTC and they are both basically the same. Both are easy to use, both have the shadow feature, among other things.
Ok so I physically broke mine..it is over 7 years old and the door gear broke. I still use it but that is the only thing that breaks on the thing. It does 'freeze' but I figure that is the PC thing...I am a Mac use and we don't get such a thing. Only the PC's I use do that.
Until the Cricut people start to love the Mac users we are stuck in cartridge land!

With MTC you do not need Ink scape to separate the parts of your graphic. MTC does it with one easy click & then you can cut your colors separate. All up-dates are free on it also. I have both & since I got MTC I haven't touched SCAL!!

The owners of SCAL just posted a new update (FOR FREE ALSO!) that allows you to break apart your graphics right in the program as well as other new features. You no longer need to go into inkscape to do it. I just downloaded the new update and it worked perfectly!
That is just what the cricut people want you to think, I have SCAL and also will vouch it does not in any way affect your cricut or cartridges.
SCAL is just like a printer driver - it is installed on your computer, nothing is actually done to change your Cricut; the SCAL or MTC just tell the Cricut what to cut, just like the cartridges do.
Provo Craft would like you to think that SCAL will damage your Cricut, but there is no way they can even tell if you have been using SCAL, since it is installed on your computer, NOT the Cricut.
Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not know that. Good for them!! I guess they would have to, to keep the SCAL owners. Thanks for letting me know!!
Your welcome! I have listed all the new features from the new update.
“Break Apart” option under Object menu
Horizontal and vertical alignment button in the Position & Size Properties section
Paste (Auto Fill) to paste the copied object to fill the page
Option to show outlines or fill objects on the mat for viewing purposes under the View menu
I watched a tutorial on how to do them all. I'm a visual kind of gal so tutorials are a big help for me.
