I have a cuttlebug and it works fine. The B and C plates need to be replaced but it works over very well. I have the opportunity to buy a new Big Shot for $45.00. I have heard the Big Shot is a bit sturdier than the cuttlebug. Do you think I should get it and have both machines or spend that $45.00 on other stamping supplies?

If you go to crops, I'd say keep the CB for that and get the BS for home. It does take up a bit more real estate on your work space but it is much sturdier than the CB. I don't own a CB but used one at a crop and it just doesn't have the "substance or weight" of the BS. I watched many videos using both machines before I opted to buy the BS. I love it. As an aside, I also had a chance to try a friend's Grand Caliber (spelling?) and I didn't like that machine at all. As a first generation product, they still have a lot of bugs to work out of it. It isn't designed well or put together well. It doesn't seem as sturdy as the BS in my opinion.

The cuttlebug was the first machine that I purchased and I used it all the time, but when I had a chance to get the big shot I bought it and I do like the big shot better it is more stable than the cuttlebug. I would say if you can get the big shot for that price go for it I don't think you will be disappointed. I kept my cuttlebug for a year or two after I purchased the big shot and my kids or husband used it when they needed to play, but I eventually found and good home for it with a lady that is just starting out in stamping and can't afford to buy to many big ticket items.
I would get the big shot. I had a cuttlebug and sold it to get a big shot. The big shot is sturdier in my opinion. I am kind of wanting the newer cuttlebug for space saving reasons, but just keep telling myself that the big shot work better
I've had my Cuttlebug for a couple of years and use it constantly. I have a limited workspace and like the fact that I can keep it in a little sturdy file box under my worktable and just pick it up and put it on the table when I need to use it. It's easy to handle and doesn't take up much room.

Big Shot is very sturdy. She's a workhorse. She is good for those who work with mixed media a lot such as fabric, jewelry, leather, etc...
If you are mainly a Nestie's users or embossing then the CB is fine.
HTH!
I do have a lot of Nesties and yes, that is my main use BUT I am very interested in what you are talking about with the mixed media stuff. I love mixed media art. In what way do you use your Big Shot for this? How do you use it for fabric, jewelry, and leather? My interest is definitely peeked on this one.

Jewelry- You can use the dies to make jewelry pieces. You can run thin sheets of metal, pop cans, fabric, plastic, etc to make bracelets, earrings, necklaces, brooches. Here's some examples: * The Minky Moose Club: Sizzix Jewelry!
Sizzix has started carrying dies to make custom jewelry pieces.
I use the Sizzix a lot of textiles. I make custom art dolls. I use the Sizzix to run thin sheets of leather, fabric, felt, flannel to cut pieces to make into clothes & accessories for my dolls. Here's an example of doll whose flowers were made with the Sizzix: Novasblossoms: "It's the Economy's Fault!" Hoffman doll finished!. This is not one of my dolls. I need to start a gallery of my girls.
I think thicker specialty paper such as mulberry cuts better with the Sizzix. You can run foam through to make your own Thickers, foam stamps, etc...
I love using wood with the Sizzix. You can run thin sheets of Balsa wood through the machine to make your own boxes, tags, shapes.
I run plastic canvas through to make my own needlework patterns. These make really cute Christmas ornaments. I did this one year for my loved ones and they are still raving about them. I got more requests this year.
You can do all these things with the Cuttlebug. When I am running different materials through the Sizzix such as wood the Cuttlebug gets all wobbly on me and my cuts didn't come out as clean or something shifted. I get grumpy about that. Every time I use flannel I have to snip it with the Cuttlebug.
I do like the Cuttlebug for running messy projects through like paint, inks, polymer clay. I have a Pink & Black Big Shot so I don't want it to get all trashed.
Buy the big shot! I had the original red sizzix and sold it to buy the CB. I loved it but sold it to buy the big shot and it is the best. Sturdy and easy to use. Love it!

I have a BS and Cuttlebug and a Grand Caliber. I use the Cuttlebug all the time. I only use the GC when I want a card with one of the larger dies. I NEVER use the BS.
blessings.

I'm glad to hear you say that, Amber. I think I would be that way, too. That's why I haven't bought the Big Shot. I love my little Cuttlebug and have used it constantly since I bought it with a coupon at Mikes a couple of years ago.

I just bought a big shot so I could use the Bigz XL dies. I still use my CB, coz it takes up less space right on the desk where I work. I have an older 'worn out CB which is only good for embossing.
Soon I'll set up a dedicated cutting staton and have all my machines set up for different purposes. One CB for embossing, another for thin die cuts and the big shot for all my Sizzix stuff.
Unless space is an issue, then Bigshot all the way. It is a much sturdier machine. I've seen lots of wobbliness with the CB and many more mentions of it falling apart (I think the word they used was "explode"). The Bigshot is just a better quality machine and can be used with more stuff.
