You may need more or less shims, just play around with it. Then lay down your texture plate, then lay down your paper face down. Then the purple silicone rubber pad, then the impressions pad. I bought the silicone rubber pad and impressions pad in a texturz starter pack.

It works really well. I have noticed I get a deeper emboss with my CB embossing folders, but I still really like the fiskars and the sizzix texturz plates.

Good luck.
I meant to say tab 1, not tab 2 for the fiskars. Sorry about that.

All I have is 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. Will all the SU dies work with that size paper? I especially like some of the XL dies but don't want to have to get different size paper. Thanks, Niki

It will work but you will have to cut your paper to size for sections of the die or use more than one sheet to get the full length of the die (for the Bigz XL Pennant and Baskets & Blooms)

All the other dies you'll have plenty of cardstock to work with.

Thanks Alicia, I'm trying to figure out if I really need one of these machines. Sounds like they are terrific.

I think my question is answered in the thread but I just want to be sure. Will the new SU Big Shot dies work on the Cuttlebug?
Thanks

Well, after reading many of these posts and seeing some of the videos, I did what I really though I would not! I broke down and ordered a Big Shot!!!
You all are the best (or shall I say worst!) enablers. lol!

I have one of the old Sizzix machines, a Cuttlebug and a Cricut...but I still decided on getting the Big Shot in the end, mainly because I want to buy some of the Bigz dies and they are too wide to fit in the other machine.

I am so excited now and am not at all regretting having ordered it. It is due to arrive here tomorrow! Yippee!!
The only bummer is that the two Bigz dies I ordered are on backorder
Oh well, I am sure I will have fun playing with it with the other things I have until those arrive.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful info posted here. I do not think I would have ordered one if I had not read so much of this. And seriously, I just know I am going to love it!!

I tried my nesties in my big shot for the first time last night. I am not used to a roll-through cutter. I watched the video and did it the same as she did, but there was some horrible creaking sound and it put a very big mark on my cutting pad. I guess that's normal. I tried it again with just one pad and some shims of various thicknesses but nothing really worked so I guess it just cuts into the pad and I have to deal with that. The only issue is that after a while, I'm afraid those cuts will show up on my cs (in the form of embossed-like creases) like they do with my old sizzix.

Default My die is cutting all the way through the creases

I have my sandwich as follows:
Clear cutting pad, pillow box die, clear cutting pad.
My die is cutting all the way through the creases where is should be folded. This is happening on the envelope die and also on the petal card die.

Help?

Yes they will work with some adjusting.

See the Cuttlebug FAQ thread for more information.

There is also a great blog with photo tutorials for using sizzix dies in your Cuttlebug. I'll see if I can find the blog link for you!

Hi Gale,

The creaking is normal and yes your plates will get scuffed up. They are consumable and meant to be replaced after much use. Just rotate your plate each time you use it to get more use.

Also it might help to only use ONE plate for cutting only. I've marked my plates CUT and EMBOSS that way I always have one to work with that is not marked up. Does this make sense?

Micky,

It is recommended that you use the crease pad with those dies. This is stated in th small print with an asterisk in the mini.

You will need to use the Sizzix Premium Crease pad instead. See the first post in this thread for a PDF file.
All of the dies with "score" lines are recommended to be used with the Premium Crease Pad.

I am going to use only one plate for cutting for now but even when cutting, my cs is right up against that plate so it'll get marked up (on the wrong side but when my nesties, if I use the other side it's slightly embossed every time).

Ooh ohh, I know this one! Yes you can, you just need to get the sandwich right. I can't remember how exactly, but a fellow demo did it with one of my CB embossing folders.

Default Using Pennant Die?

I saw a post and couldn't find the answer: How do we use the Pennant Die? Do we fold the cs or am I missing something? Also, if I don't want the whole range of pieces cut, can I cover only part of the die with paper without harming my cutting system? (Totally a newbie)

Thank you so much for the info. When I was reading the first couple of pages I really did not know what I needed. I do not have either machine and am trying to find out this info. for a customer. The word sandwhich meant nothing to me so I had no idea that is the file that I needed. Thank you for kindly pointing that out to me!

thanks you so much for this thread!! you have helped so many of us with our questions. Your time and effort is very apreciated!! I'm assuming that the Ellison Machine by Sizzix will work with the big shot dies. We have this machine at work and big dies and they look alot like the big shot dies. I guess the sandwiching would be different.

Sorry I couldn't respond sooner. I'm working on lots of swaps and haven't had much computer time with my kids... My husband is getting ready for another TDY next week so I'm going to have my hands full

Ok so to answer you question you fold your cardstock in half and run it through using this sandwich from bottom to top

XL cutting pad
XL Pennent Die blade side up
Cardstock folded in half
XL cutting pad
Roll through Big Shot

I remember seeing a video tutorial. I'll try and look it up again and post it here.

you can find Premium Crease pad at your JoAnn's Michael's and Hobby Lobby if you need instant access. It should retail for the same price.

You only need it for dies that have *crease lines* to get better score.

You wouldn't need it for the dies like the Scallop Circle, Birds and Blooms or sizzlets dies.

Hope this helps you!

are you referring to the heavy duty machines listed here?
http://www.ellison.com/catalog/?p=our_products
They look much larger than the Big Kick and Big Shot and I'm not familiar but I would assume they would work since they are the same brand. The sandwich stack would probaly be different.

If you are referring to the Original Sizzix machine all of the Sizzix dies will work except for the Bigz Dies. They are too wide to fit in the opening.

There's video demonstrations in the first post of this thread. I'll find the Sizzix video as well and repost.

You should get 2 plastic Shims with your crease pad. They aren't sold separately that I'm aware of.

I have a question or frustation really. I have repeatedly tried to use the basket die in the sandwich as shown and i can't get it to go through the machine. What am I doing wrong?? Also my small flower and bird die again followed the directions and nothing happened.

I can get the top note the work fine but these are driving me insane! Can you help??

I'm glad I didn't get the pennant die. It would bug me to have a crease down the middle of the finished shape.

btw I bought a crease pad from the sizzix outlet on ebay and it did not come with any shims. Can I cut my own shims from acetate? Or are they even that thick? Do I need them?

They look much larger than the Big Kick and Big Shot and I'm not familiar but I would assume they would work since they are the same brand. The sandwich stack would probaly be different.

If you are referring to the Original Sizzix machine all of the Sizzix dies will work except for the Bigz Dies. They are too wide to fit in the opening.

There's video demonstrations in the first post of this thread. I'll find the Sizzix video as well and repost.

Yes I was refering to the heavy duty machine. I ended up purchasing the scalloped envelope to see if it will work. I work at a family recourse centre and we lots of dies but nothing really good for my crafts. If not i'll see if it fits in my cuttlebug. I always could just go to my lls and use their machine. I cant affort the big shot but love the dies. Thanks for your reply.

I'd like to confirm here - all but the Bigz Dies will fit the Original Sizzix, but do you need the converter as I've seen previously?

Thank you.

I have the original Sizzix and the "original" Big Shot.

You only need the converter for the old Sizzix if you are using thin dies, like Sizzlets. I have not embossed anything with that mnachine so I cannot tell you if it is necesssary for cuttlebug and such, but I imagine it is as they, too, are very thin. HTH.
