GirlFriday, you have a great husband! You'll love your Big Shot. My husband knows how much I love mine. There's never a card I make that doesn't have some sort of Big Shot involvement! He's even used it a few times!

If you cut it before you bake it, it works fine. Good luck!

It looks like the 2015 Big Shots will be grey, with no decoration. Also, they're bringing out a Big Shot Plus, that'll take 8 1/2" wide paper. And-- looks like a motorized Big Shot is coming. I'm most interested in the wider Big Shot, bc I am getting intrigued by bigger dies, and having one machine that can do thin dies, steel rule dies, and wide dies would be awesome.

Sizzix. I've been seeing photos around the web from CHA, which ends today. Sizzix also had a short video from Jen Long posted on their FB today about the new wider machine.

You are right, but I think it sort of disappeared when the Vagabond came on the scene. I only got into die cutting in 2013, and I had never even seen a BS Express, except on someones youtube. I searched high and low for one and they were definitely discontinued and very hard to find used.

I am curious about why Sizzix is releasing one again. The cutting platform looks narrower than the Big Shot.

Here's a pic of all 3 from Ellen Huston's instagram

Default Newest Big Shot

When will the newest grey big shot be available for purchase? The one that was showcased during CHA 2015?
Anyone know??

For the 9" Big Shot Plus, on Scrapbooking Made Simple's website, they're saying they expect delivery to the store on April 15. Sizzix Big Shot PLUS Machine - Scrapbooking Made Simple

I have not read anything else about the regular sized one (which also will be grey) or even the motorized one that I saw a few photos of the Sizzix booth.

Hello there, I have a really novice question, I'm sorry. If you put your wafer dies cutting side down, does the Big Shot still warp the upper cut plate? I hate how I break my cut plates so easily. :/

Your plates shouldn't be breaking easily at all. They will get scratched up but are actually very durable from what I've read. Sounds like your sandwich might be too thick? Make sure you aren't using both tabs unless the recipe tells you they are needed.

The upper plate usually gets warped fast. I wonder if it's because I cut against it and not put the die cut side down. But I will check the sandwich thickness. Thanks.

I read somewhere that you should flip your upper plate after each pass through the Big Shot and this will keep it from warping. I have trained myself to flip it as I take it off and set it down, then I don't have to remember if I did it or not when I use it next.

ok, will give that a try. I hope I can remember to do this often that it becomes a habit. My plate is shaped like a wave now. Thanks.

Hello fellow Big Shot fans!

I am in need of a rolling tote that will fit my gorgeous teal Big Shot (and hopefully other stuff like extra cutting plates, dies and embossing folders) because I travel with my crafty stuff a couple of times a year. I have a tote but there wasn't much room for anything but the machine.

I really like the turquoise color of the WE R MEMORY keepers tote but it seems small. Does anyone have that and a Big Shot?

TIA for any and all suggestions.

I read the .PDFs and that is the exact sandwich I'm using, but it still seems too thick. The cutting pads are older - my bigshot has a sticker on the bottom which makes it seem like it was just sitting in the warehouse for two years. I have to go to Joanns tomorrow - maybe I should pick up a new set of cutting pads?

Hi Tina!
Have you checked out the sewing machine totes? I don't know if there are any that rolll, but it's worth checking them out. Some of them are quite roomy.

That's a great idea Jeanette! Wonder if Joann's has any (in-store) to test.

I bought my tote on Amazon. It's great. Really large, on sturdy wheels, came with 4 or 6 containers with zippers (well made, sturdy storage) that can fit inside the tote or attach to the sides and front, nice telescoping handle on it. It has folders for paper, pockets for tools, marker/pens case, etc. I could live out of this thing.

Name on it is Craft Zone, and I think its made by California Innovations.

Good luck hunting. Let us know what you find.

Thank you, Janet1000! I will search for Craft Zone/California Innovations totes.

Continued input is still appreciated ... the budget is tiny for this item so it could be awhile before an actual purchase is made. However, I want to have a list of possibilities to take advantage of any good sales!

Here is a link to a video demonstration of the Big Shot.

Premium Crease Pad tutorial by Patty Bennett

* You can use this pad when you want to create a more defined crease on the material being cut and scored. It's especially useful when you are cutting through materials other than card stock. It works great with dies that have a score line, and we recommend it if you use the Scallop Envelope, Pillow Box, Circle 3-D Ornament, Pointed 3-D Star, and Petal Card dies.

Scallop Edge Comparison by Patty Bennett

Scallop Die Comparison by Patty Bennett

SIZZIX DIE COMPATIBILITY

*All sizzix brand dies will work in the original Red Sizzix machine EXCEPT for the Bigz, Bigz XL, Decorative Strip, Any Die Marked "Roller Machine Only"

*All Sizzix Brand Dies will work in the Big Kick Machine

*All sizzix brand dies will work in the Cuttlebug HOWEVER your Cuttlebug opening MUST be at least 6 inches wide for the Bigz or Bigz XL to fit through the opening.
You can break your plates when using Steel Rule Dies such as the Bigz, Bigz XL dies in your cuttlebug.
These dies were made to be exclusive to the Big Kick and Big Shot Machine Only.
The Premium Crease Pad, Extended Cutting Pads are too WIDE to fit through the opening of the Cuttlebug machine.

*All sizzix brand dies will work in the Spellbinders Wizard

* Sizzix brand dies will not work in the Quickutz Revolution

I've posted a few pdf's and will update them as needed!

FYI In the .pdf for Sandwich Stacks it says Acrylic Mat (these are the Standard Cutting Pads that come with the Big Shot)
When using your Extended Spacer Platform make sure the Decal side is FACE UP!

I label my Cutting Plates CUT and EMBOSS so that when I'm using them I only cut on one pad at a time to get more milage out of them. It is normal for your pads to get marks on them when cutting. The pads are consumable and will eventually need replacing. Also "creaks" and "pops" are normal sounds as well and just let you know that the material is being cut.
* The Premium Crease pad is also a consumable item. You will get marks on it from use and eventually will have to replace it.

NEVER FORCE ANY SANDWICH THROUGH YOUR MACHINE. Every machine is a little different and will need fine tuning when using competitors dies such as the cuttlebug or nestabilities. Err on the THIN side when building your sandwich. You may need to use cardstock or thin chipboard "shim" to increase the pressure in some cases.

Ask away and ENJOY!

Hugs and Blessings
Alicia
Alicia, I don't think you're around anymore but I just wanted to publicly thank you for all the info in the first few posts because I was able to just finish inventorying all of my SU dies on Evernote because of you. Thank you!

I'm needing some advice. My Cuttlebug died and I decided to take the plunge and purchased a Big Shot Plus. At the same time I purchased the Inksheets Transfer Pad and some sheets to play with my dies. I'm usually not so dense but for the life of me I can not figure out the correct sandwich. All of the video show using the magnetic platform and I do not have one. Is the magnetic platform thicker than the standard base plate? I either get no impression or it cuts through all of the layers rather than just leaving the foil on the paper. Help please from a new Big Shot user. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Default Inksheets

Thanks for the video I learned a few more techniques to use the Inksheets!
I watched it and again they are using the magnetic platform.
Does anyone know if the magnetic platform is thicker than the standard base plate. Maybe I'll try to figure out my own shim to make the Inksheets work.

Has anyone tried the new Anna Griffin Cuttlebug Mix & Match Embossing Folders? It's the one with the hard plastic surface and the different plastic dies that go in the middle? I got some as a freebie at the Scrapbook Expo I recently attended and I would like to use them in my Big Shot (although I do have a Cuttlebug).
I was wondering if anyone has a sandwich for them?

Before I had a magnetic base plate, I just used the standard one that comes with the big shot with all tabs closed for framelits and it works pretty much the same!

She said in that video that she was using the magnetic platform because it keeps the dies in position but she also said you can use the standard platform but you will have to tape the dies on place. Maybe look at the video again. I know I'm late to your post so you may have already taken a second look.

militarystampingmom, Your posts were the ones I read when I first started on this forum. You explain things in "plain English" for those of us just starting out and I appreciate it. I too wondered what happened to you.

Do the Accucut Go Fabric dies work with the Big Shot Plus? If so, what is the sandwich?

Man this stuff is confusing! I have had a Cameo for a long time, so only used my Vintaj for embossing. it was purchased during the time they didn't have the tabs. It just came with the one thin shim and I just read you could get the wafer thin die adapter.

Anyway, after spending so much time here, I realized I did want a few dies. That embossed interior edge on frames, labels, etc. in particular really appeals to me. That's something my Cameo can't do and it's much more finished looking. I purchased several Nestabilities and a floral/foliage pack. Ago but one labels pack are Spellbinders.

After frustration with homemade shims, I think I'm going to order the newer multipurpose extended platform with tabs. In addition Im looking at the texturz silicone and impressions pads. So, is t that verything I need?

I'm having limited luck with videos as most just talk about cutting. If I add in embossing, then it's about embossing folders. Or I come on videos using different supplies as the platform has changed back and forth and apparently the silicone pad, since someone was using two floppy tan ones.

It's my understanding I'll need to run it through once with all tabs down to cut and then through again with the two extra texurz pads (with either one or two tabs down depending who you ask). Is this how you guys get that nice deep impression?

I have a Big Shot Express and my sandwich went partway through and got stuck. Does anyone know how to "unstick it"?

Has any one tried using the Spellbinders Texture Plates in the Big Shot? Can you recommend a sandwich that works? TIA.

Silly question, but are the blue and the pink & black machines no longer available? White & grey seems kinda bland...
