Hi,
i have a Big shot question. I have seen lots of cards using the top bote die. Almost all of them are layered. How is this done?????? Are you cutting 2 and cutting the border off of one???? i have tried that and not been able to do it. Maybe its a blind person thing. HHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!

The Bigz and Originals will work in your CB but the XL Bigs will have to be run through twice.

See the link HERE

There is a Cuttlebug FAQ thread as well and many of these questions have been already answered there

The Top Note Bigz Die?

Yes you can use it in multiple ways:

Use the Negative piece left over and then cut another die with coordinating paper. Cut around the "stiched part" or "perforation marks" and nest the die inside the negative piece

Or cut 2 dies in coordinating colors. Cut around the "perforation marks" and layer the 2nd die on top of the first.

Here is a visual from Patty Bennett

Default score line solution

Maybe you already knew but this was news to me...I was having trouble with my Bigz Scallop Envelope scores being cut through. I emailed Demonstrator Support and just heard back from them. They suggested turning the die 90 degrees (for me that meant putting the longer side through first). It worked like a charm!

Yep that sounds right.

Each machine is different so some people can use them without the Crease Pad and others cannot.

In my first post there is a .pdf file of how to use your crease pad with the Big Shot. (the file says Big Kick but they work the same)

Crease pads... I need some clarification please.

I've had the Big Shot for a couple years. Love it. I have many of the envie and box dies. I've always run through as I would any other bigz die - just between the two plastic cutting mats. The problem is that the areas that are supposed to come out scored for folds always end up as cuts. So I end up with envelopes that are open at all sides with just the corners holding them together. What am I doing wrong? Should I be using the crease pad? From what I've read here it sounds like the crease pad is to ensure that you get a complete CUT, not a good score, which is what I need. Am I wrong? Can anyone help me get scores rather than cuts on my fold lines?? Thanks!!!

Debbie, we just tested this. We were getting cuts at the score lines, but when we switched to the crease pad, this problem resolved. The score lines are scored, and the cut lines are cut...

Karen

Debbie - The crease pad is for the Bigz 3-D die. It helps to make a score line on the shape. I have the ornament circle and the 5-point star and have never had a problem with the die cutting where it's not suppose to. Reading the back of the crease pad packaging, it says "If the crease rule (shows up on picture as where the folds should be on 3-D item) cuts trough the paper, reposition the die with crease rule parallel to rollers. Hope this helps.

hiya! big shot Thick Cuts dies wont work in the original szzix as their too big. The Thin cuts will work but need the convertor and adapters.

All the Big shot dies work in the Big Kick

Default ??? Big shot dies and Cuttlebug Machine

I have a cuttlebug machine and Sizzix original. I really don't do much with the die cutting systems. However I was wondering if you could tell me if the Big Shot dies will work in the cuttlebug.

I know sizzlets will and orginal dies will, just not sure on the big shot dies

Thanks
Melony

Default how many sheets of CS will it cut?

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but I didn't have time to read all 106 post, wow that's a lot. Anyway, what is the true number of pieces of cs that we can cut with the Big Shot? I love this machine but I can only cut 1 piece at a time, and I know that SU!'s big selling point was how easy this was going to be for us to prepare for workshops. Am I doing something wrong? I am following the directions. Please help oh wise one!

***********************
NOTE FROM JANE: Please note that the following list is true of *ALL* thick steel rule dies (Originals & Bigz). And most of the machines on the market that use thick steel rule dies will be able to process the items on this list. I don't want anyone to fall for a marketing campaign thinking they have to buy a specific machine or specific brand to cut these items. Most of you already own a machine that can do this...it's the family of die not a specific brand. Its good information.

(This was an email from a group list that I'm on I take NO CREDIT for this information)

Are there suppose to be cut marks on the cutting pads after you run the dies through? Am I doing something wrong?

Sizzlits Die, specifically Birds & Blooms. The Bigz dies work great I can cut thru plenty.

That is perfectly normal, to extend the life of your cutting pads rotate them. You can get exta's at Joann's or Mikes they are in the sizzix section. The pads are made for both the big shot and the big kick. I usually wait until they are on sale or use a coupon.

Sizzlets aren't going to cut through more than one sheet at a time. They are not steel rule dies like the originals or bigz.

Hope this helps!

From a Yahoo group I'm on

Cut marks on cutting mats (pads) is a normal occurrence on all
mechanical machines. Your mats will end up looking pretty scarred and
ugly by the time you are done with them.

Mats are considered a 'consumable' part. That means you will need to
replace your cut mats when they get worn out. How often depends on
how much you cut, what kinds of material you cut and to an extent,
what kind of dies you use. On average, most folks seem to need new
mats every 6 to 12 months. Again, your experience will vary depending
on use.

Generally speaking, you know it is time to replace a mat when you can
no longer make clean cuts with dies that had worked perfectly before
or when they become so warped that they no longer feed properly into
the machine or have 'divots' where dies won't cut even with shimming.

Some tips for mat longevity: If your manufacturer allows it, do flip
and rotate your mats each time you feed them into the machine to even
out the wear and pressure on them.

If you notice some minor bowing, place the mat under some heavy books
or bricks over night to help flatten them. If they won't flatten
sufficiently to use, it's time to replace them.

Hugs,

Thanks ladies, I wasn't sure what to do! In most of the training videos it is really hard to see what the cutting mat looked like after the cut. I really appreciate your help!
