Why aren't the big shot and dies offered in the catalog? Will it be in a seperate mini catalog? I want to find info on it so I can order but I am having problems finding anything other than how to use it with cuttlebug etc.
There is a catalog for Sizzix on the SU site. Here is a link if you are interested. Demonstrators can buy now, but customers need to wait until Sept 1st.
Since the catalog is not in the demonstrator section, I believe it is alright to post the link. I also have it my blog on the right side bar.

do non-SU brass templates work the same as SU brass templates? same sandwich? thanks
Yes, but as always, each machine might be just a tad different, so you might have to change up the sandwich a bit, Like adding a piece of cardstock or taking out something....., but all in all, it should be the same sandwich.
I watched the demo video on SU! for the Big Shot and copied her, using the Bigz Scalloped Envelope with the Acrylic pad. I even used several layers of cardstock and that die cut right through the side creases.
So lessoned learned... go with the Crease Pad!
Thanks for all the great info, Alicia! Off to play some more!
hugs,
regarding cuttlekid dies, as a Big Shot/die cutting machine newbie, what type of sandwich needs to be made with those- are they like the sizzlets dies that came in the starter kit?
thanks for all your wonderful help!
I understand that you can put a cuttlebug die through a Big Shot...
What about the other way around--A Bigz die through a Cuttlebug?
I just can't afford to drop $100 on a Big Shot right now...especially after I JUST got a Cuttlebug right before they announced the Big Shot. Oh, and I have a Cricut Expression I bought last summer, too. So even though I am a demo, I just can't justify it right now. I know I'd have to cut the pieces before my club (so that I'm not demoing a Cuttlebug).
I tried chipboard and was very disappointed that it didn't cut all the way through. Is there a secret?
I've tried two different widths of chipboard using the Serif Essentials dies. The 1/8" thick (approx) that is the same as the On Board Journals' chipboard (does anyone know if the On Board Book Basics is the same as the Journals?) didn't cut all the way through on parts of the letters. I then used as piece of chipboard (heaven knows where I got it, I've been collecting pieces along the way) that is 1/16" thick and it worked great (and looks so cool). I glued a piece of DSP on a piece and ran it through and it still worked great. Seems this is the best size. I have no idea where to get more - any leads here?!
Try the thin chipboard that comes in the back of the DSP.
That definitely works too, but it's not quite thick enough for me - I'll try gluing two pieces together and see what happens, because it's a great way to recycle this paper product.

The Bigz and Originals will work in your CB but the XL Bigs will have to be run through twice.
Question---Since SU partnered with sizzix, are we able to demo other sizzix dies that are not in the catalog?

I was very disappointed with this also, I thought they would all cut through chipboard. I did get it to cut through a cereal box though.
But you don't get a % of the sales from dies not sold in the catty...so I guess my question is why would you want to demo something that your customers would have to go elsewhere to purchase?
Your questions is a valid one however, because you may have other sizzix die cuts on your samples that you bring to your workshops for all to view.
Have you asked demo support? I bet you aren't the first person to raise the question.

Hi
i just got the big shot from SU, being a demo. i had bought a cuttlebug and gotten used to it and now the BS seems to be overwhelming. i got the basket die with the purchase and i had a buger of a time trying to figure out the sandwich. The tab plate makes me crazy. i ended up using both acrylic plates with the die and c/s inbetween. Was this right? How do you use that tab plate thingy? i don't understand their pictures. Dummy in CA

In the very first post in this thread there are 3 files that you can download that should hopefully help you learn your new toy!
The tabbed thingy is the Multipurpose Platform it will always be on the bottom of your sandwich unless you are using the Bigz XL dies.
If you have any other questions just post them here!
I'm unsure about the Silicone Rubber & Impressions Pad? Are either of these the same as the Premium Crease Pad?
Is it speculation or did someone hear directly from a Sizzix rep at Convention that we will be adding Texturz plates to our line?
Thanks for your answers.
Sharon
The Silicone Rubber Mat and Impressions pad are part of the Texturz Starter Kit or can be purchased separately. I haven't gotten an answer from DS about if they will be added to the product line.
Hopefully someone will know the answer to this question!
I've been playing with my Big Shot today with the nesties. Don't have the SB spacer plate yet so I'm just using my small Sizzix adapter (square black ones) with it for now. Just love it. I was looking at the info for the Fiskars Plates and the sandwich calls for an Impressions Pad. I have the old teal and black Big Shot and this did not come with it. Can you tell me what this is and can I pick it up separately? Thanks for the great tips on this thread.

You can find it at Michael, JoAnn's, AC Moore, Archivers, Hobby Lobby. There are many online retailers that sell them as well.
You can get the Starter Pack or you can buy the Impressions Pad and Silicone Mat separately.
so where do you get sheets of chipboard to use in the big shot? does SU sell it, if we are only supposed to use SU material? i want to demo it in front of my customers so...... what exactly is the book chipboard in the new catty? are those blank sheets that we can cut into?
and while i'm at it, let me verify, the big shot dies that cut through chipboard are originals and bigz? not the sizzlets, right?

I didn't go to convention but my understanding is that the board book chipboard (small and large) in the catty can be cut by the originals and bigz dies.
I use the cereal box like back board that comes with the DSP paper packs to protect them as well.
The sizzlets will only work on cardstock not chipboard.
Hi Amy,
So glad you are so smart. Anyway, i just got the pennant banner die cut. How do i use it? Do i fold c/s to get the full pennant? With the thickness of the die, what is the sandwich? YEs, i downloaded all the info in the first of the thread but i am old and dense and need clear words i can understand. That tab thingy, how do you use it, open? closed? one side says not a cutting plate????? i am soooo confused. i need a class, obviously! Thanks so much for your help!

It would be fabulous if some of you tutorial genius' would put together an entire training program. (I don't ask for much, do I?...lol) I've watched the one that SU! has, but I'd love to see one on how to use (sandwich recipes included) for how to use my cuttlebug folders/dies with the BS. SU! will never do that because we don't sell the cuttlebug stuff, but there are probably lots of customers out there who own cuttlebug embossing folders, and if we could show them all how easy it is to use the BS with all of our embossing/die, no matter who makes them, it might be a great sales incentive.

The Multipurpose platform has Tabs that act like "shim" to thicken your sandwich so that more pressure is applied when you want to cut or emboss.
Tab 2 is the Top of the platform for most sandwiches in the .pdf file
Tab 1 is the Top of the platform for others
You can flip between the Tabs depending on which type of die you are cutting with. (i.e. if you want to use Tab 1 in your sandwich you would flip open the platform to TAB 1 so that it shows on top. Make your sandwich on top and roll through the Big Shot)
NO TAB is when you can see only the White Adapter mat on the Bottom
you will not use the Multipurpose Platform if you are using any of the XL Bigz Dies or Movers and Shakers Dies in the Big Shot
You never cut on the multipurpose platform. It should always be at the very bottom of your sandwich. You should only cut on the standard cutting plates (i.e. Acrylic Mats) or Extended Cutting Plates.

i'll link you a few of the videos on Youtube so that you have a better visual.
Hang on.
here is one showing how to use the Spellbinders Dies in the Big Kick again same sandwich for the Big Shot
It's the 4th machine shown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m51gPhNmywY
