I received several cards that had a look of dry embossed back grounds. Is this what they call texturized background? And do you get this look by using the Big Shot or am I needing something else. (I haven't yet purchased, as I am not sure what to purchase yet).

Yes, that's what they call texturized backgrounds. You can definitely use the Big Shot for this. You just need to buy SU Texturz Plates Pg 203 of the current catalogue or you can buy Embossing Folders by Cuttlebug. I use the ones by Cuttlebug in my Big Kick which is very similar to the Big Shot - just not as expensive. I plan to buy SU's Backgrounds I, too.

Thank you so much for your quick response. Loved all of these cards and have always loved the dry emboss look, was just never really good at it. X-O

Anyone know if there is a texture plate that will go in the big shot that gives either a brick or stone wall texture ? I'm making a castle for a project for DD & walls textured would look awesome.

Thanks

If you go to the sizzix.com website you can see all the texturz plate designs.
http://www.sizzix.com/category/Texturz+Plate+Sets

Fiskars also has plates that you can use. Same sandwich as the Texturz Plates

The fiskars must take a different sandwich and you probably have posted it here. I have a bunch of them as they were on sale at Big Lots as discontinued.

Fiskars are the same thickness as Texturz so same sandwich from bottom up

MPP Tab 1
Texture Plate (put the design you want on your CS Face UP)
Cardstock
Silicone Rubber Mat
Impressions Pad
Roll through Big Shot

I find my Fiskars work better if I use one or two cardstock shims - I get a better impression that way. Just don't force the sandwich through, if it's too thick take out a shim.

I just found mine from Fiscars lately and have been making textured paper with them. I had to use thinner paper than cardstock to get a good impression. I had to use al tabs on the machine, plate, paper, silicone sheet, texture plate and then I shimmed with a sheet of craft foam. I'm not getting as good an impression with cardstock.

I am having a problem with my Big Shot partially embossing when I only wish to cut. I am using the following sandwich:

MPP on Tab 1
Acrylic Plate
Nestie (face up)
Paper
Acrylic Plate

The embossing is faint and slightly inconsistent, but definitely visible. I am wondering if anyone is having the same problem or if anyone has any suggestions. I'm not using any shims so I can't make it any 'looser' without moving to Tab 2 and putting in a boat load of shims (paper or otherwise).

I haven't read through the entire 17 pages of Big Shot FAQ, so I am sorry if this has already been addressed... I'm having an issue of the etched impressions left on the acrylic pad (specifically my go go boots letters) transferring onto my cardstock when running other dies through. Are you only supposed to use one side of the acrylic mat?? Or am I doing something wrong?

Kimberly Joy - if your cutting pads are used a lot, the impressions from them will go on your cardstock. What I do is put the die with the blade facing up, then put the cardstock face down. That way the impressions from the cutting plate only go on the back of your cardstock (which will be glued to your paper so it won't be visible).

Your cutting plates will last longer if you use both sides.

Always rotate your plates with each use. I have one plate that is for cutting only and one plate that is always at the bottom of my sandwich so that it's always flat.

After awhile the pressure will cause some of the cuts to be transferred to your CS. The best way to prevent this is to put a piece of Copy Paper between your cardstock and the top cutting pad. If that still doesn't help it's probably time to replace your pads.

Hugs and Blessings

Thanks so much Alicia and Nikki. I guess its just the pressure thing and I will try the piece of copy paper and see if that makes a difference.

I'm having problems with my new Bigz XL Box die. When I use it with the top and bottom clear plates, it cuts the fold lines instead of just making fold lines. I'm using SU! cardstock. I was hoping to make this box, using the new textured double sided papers we now carry, but I have to figure out why it's cutting the card stock first. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or how to correct this?
Thanks!

Sounds like the pressure in your machine is too tight. Are you only cutting one sheet at a time??

Sizzix has an extended Premium Crease pad that is sized to fit the Big XL dies. It was shown at CHA. I'm not sure when it would be available for purchase but that would be another way to solve your problem.

Mine is just creasing right now, but I can tell if I did more than one sheet of cs, it would cut, too. I have 2 crease pads, so that's my backup plan. (Bought one from Michaels when SU's was on BO.)

Thanks for that info. I was wondering if I should buy a 2nd crease pad but will wait and get the extended one.

Yes the Premium Crease pad but it's not long enough to cover the length of a Big XL die.

2 back to back should work. I'll be getting the extended one from CHA as soon as it's available.

New question. Any one use Tack and Peel and is there a thread on it? I just tried it on an unmounted stamp and it did well. Problem is I have some pretty big unmounted stamps and the sheet isn't big enough for them unless I adheared a sheet to the cd case and used it as the backing.
Also how do you store your stamps in cd cases? Some of mine won't close. Again the big unmounted stamps are too bulky.
Hope you don't mind me posting this here.

Default Clear Circle Die/Scallop Circle Die

Does anyone know if the clear circle die fits inside the scallop circle die?
I would appreciate any help anyone could send my way. Thank you!

I have both but havn't tried nesting them. I am sure that the nestabilities scalloped circles would adapt to the clear one or vice versa. Interesting thing to try.
