Default Big Kix

I just got a new Big Kix die cutter. I unwrapped it and placed in on my table and it teeter totters. Anotherwards its not level. Does anyone know if its supposed to be like that? Thanks, Becky Alberter

Default Cutting Felt

First of all, thank you for all the "can't live without" information here. I just got my Big Shot for Christmas & this thread has been sooo helpful! The videos & tutorials are lifesavers.

I have a question - can you use felt with the Join in the Cheer Decorative Strip Die or dies of that type? Are they too thin to do different materials, i.e. felt with or can you do some other sort of sandwich, cutting plates, shims or something to make that work?

Thank You so much in advance for the tips, information & ideas!

The low profile dies such as the sizzlets and decorative strips are only meant to cut paper, vellum and Cardstock. One sheet at a time.

Thanks Alicia! I thought that would be so pretty to have out of felt but at least there's vellum option!!!

Thanks Again, Karen

my Big Shot doesn't teeter at all. Maybe one of the feet is off center.

I wrote Sizzix to ask about the star and snowflake dies, the big ones. Paper kept getting stuck in the dies. They recommended using scotch tape to lift the paper out of the dies. Anyone else have this problem?

Wizard. You are supposed to label the mats that came with the machine. I think the two big ones are the cutting mats and I'm not sure at the moment what the littler one is for. I did cut and emboss with the die that came with the machine and it was awesome. I ordered some new dies and will get around to trying them this weekend. Let you know how it goes. I find the machine hard to push through but I don't have much strength due to age and arthritis.

My Big Kick doesn't teeter at all. It sounds like it isn't level, like you said. Maybe one side of it isn't quite right. Try shimming it a bit to see if that helps, if not, contact Sizzix.

I've used Tim Holtz' grungeboard in the Big Shot - works fine.

Default Scallop Envelope Die/gift card holder

I got all of my goodies from SU! today! What fun I have had tonight! Hubby looked at me a few minutes ago and told me, "You know, you have to go to bed tonight, right?"
I know I saw a tutorial where you use the Scallop Envelope Die to make a gift card size envelope. Can anyone direct me to this since I have misplaced the link?
Thank you,
Colleen

I think I am having a blonde moment.

I feel as though I am forcing the sizzlet through the machine, I ended up using the long skinny base, and then the two mats with it. Am I doing something wrong, with the bigger base, I felt I was going to break the machine. I know I am a Dorkfish! SO, just smack me upside the head. I have always had the Quickutz Revolution, so this is all like another language to me the sandwich things....I hope someone can help. I did get it to go through and the little flower was cut out and embossed so beautfully, but I don't want to break my Big Shot!

I hope someone can help! I have Stamp Club this weekend!

I use the white platform and the two clear plates and the sizzlet cuts fine. Maybe your machine is new and a little bit stiff? I did use some old dies today that I had some trouble cutting with. They are discontinued now.

Well lets walk through it

This is the sizzlet sandwich from the bottom up
Multipurpose Platform Tab 1
Standard Cutting Pad
Sizzlet Die blade side up
Cardstock (only 1 sheet)
Standard Cutting Pad
Roll through Big Shot

For Embosslits
Multipurpose Platform Tab 1
Standard Cutting Pad
Embosslits with 1 sheet of Cardstock inside
Standard Cutting pad
Roll through Big Shot

If you are using the Decorative Strips (same thickness as the sizzlet)
Extended Spacer Platform (Decal SIDE UP)
Decorative Strip Cutting Pad
Decorative Strip Die Blade side Up
Cardstock (only 1 sheet)
Decorative Strip Cutting Pad
Roll through Big Shot

*You cannot cut anything thicker than 1 sheet of paper, vellum or Cardstock at a time with Sizzlets. These are low profile dies and cannot cut through thick materials.

*You can put multiple sizzlets on your cutting platform when cutting

There may be some resistance on your machine because it's calibrated differently. No two Big Shot Machines are going to have the same pressure distribution but the sandwich should work.

In some cases when the die and plates are at the very edge of your sandwich (right up against the rollers) the machine can't engage. Try moving the dies closer to the Back of the sandwich so that the rollers can catch as you move it through the machine.

When I got my new machine I found that the more I cut with the sandwiches the easier it became to roll them through the machine. You may have to hold the machine in place as you are rolling and that's ok too.

If you have any other questions just let me know!!

Hugs and Blessings

I totally live in blonde moments. I think it is all the blonde highlights in my red hair! LOL.

I think the other replies have already helped you. I sometimes find that I need shims with some dies as I have sometimes have the opposite problem of dies not cutting through. The tutorial below uses some pictures to build the sandwiches. The dump truck die is a cuttlebug die but the set-up is the same as a Sizzlit.

I use the big base, on tab 2 (I think - leave one folded over), plus the 2 acrylic mats (with the die and card sandwiched in between)

Ok....First, I've not searched in this thread at all, but those of you who have wonderfully fast computers please understand mine is very old and NOT fast at all when it comes to searching....

NOW the question~
I have recently come into posession of a Big Shot; however, I have nothing other than the machine part. I do have a BIGZ Top Note Die from SU. What do I need to buy to be able to use these together?

Thanks!

Default What do I need to use the Bigz Basket Die?

I have a pair of the extended cutting pads. Do I need an extended spacer? Does two of the regular size spacers work?

Sorry to be a pain but I must of slept through "class" when you all discussed this.

Alicia, with the die strips, is the die strip cutting plate the same long one that is used with the sidekick? TIA! I want to start using my die strips with my Big Kick, but didn't know if I needed to buy new extended cutting plates along with the extended spacer platform, or just the spacer platform.

Oh Thank you Thank you!
My order from Stampin Up finally arrived and I would have been so disappointed if I did not have everything to use the basket die. You made my day!

I've attached pictures but yes the Decorative Strip Cutting pads are the same ones you would use with the side kick.
The picture on the left has the cutting pads
The picture on the right has the extended spacer platform

I store my BIGZ dies and Sizzix dies in those photo boxes that people can buy at Michaels for $3.00.

Default storoing dies

I store my small old dies that are thick in a Michaels box and the big ones in a CD holder that is in the shape of a house I got years ago. The little ones are in a drawer system labeled by type of die. This works for me pretty well.

I have a rolling cart I bought from the Sam's club, on top of it is one of the desk tops for the modular furniture you buy at sams, it fits perfectly on the cart and isn't heavy, so the stuff under the shelf i can get to if needed. I skirted the cart with a curtain panel that matches the one on my desk, and it is velcroed inplace up top and closed in the middle front with velcro closures. The dies sit in rows by theme, like flowers, tags, etc. I have cataloged most of them.

For my steel dies (spellbinders/nesties) I used a magnetic sticky back sheet from Michaels, and placed it inside my cabinet doors, holds the dies great, I just have to be careful and close the door gently -- works great!

Wow. I could use one of those sheets inside the little house I store the big dies in. It was origionally for CD's. The dies fit in perfectly and I can label the shelves.
I have long burner covers attached to my wooden file cabinet with those little metal boxes with see through lids and magnetic backs to store elements. I need to buy a couple of magnetic sheets. Walmart was out of them.

The differences are cosmetic.

The big kick was made to be sold in retail chain stores like Michaels and JoAnns

The Big Shot is a more "luxury" version in it's design because it's more asthetically appealing.

Both machines process sandwiches in the same way and use the same dies and plates.

Did it work? It doesn't sound like the best idea, you could potentially crack the pads or the die or worse... both

The big kick normally does not come with the platform,(the red machine) you must order it seprately or make sure you buy one that says it is included.

I am fairly new and I have not embarked on the die cutting front. How will I compete will all the beautiful cards everyone else puts out? I guess I am old school and frugal..............

Please don't look at this as a competition. Both styles, using dies and "old school" are wonderful and beautiful in their own right. They're just different from each other. I have found that you can take an idea from either style, and turn it into the other. That's part of what we do a demonstrators, see an idea and demonstrate a way to do it - put our personal touch on it.

I've had mine for a while now, but I think it was taped in there somewhere. It could be taped to the machine, or in another part of the package it came in. Once you put it together, you never have to worry about it again.
