I just thought I'd let everyone know

I tried the magnetic sheet with my nesties in my Big Kick and I am so in love with it! It's awesome. I got 8.5x11 magnetic sheets that run through your printer as a freebie some time ago. They have just been sitting in my drawer, so I broke them out and cut one of the sheets to fit the MPP. Then I used this sandwich:

Tab 1
1 cardstock shim
cutting plate
magnetic sheet
Nestie blade up
Cardstock face down
Crease pad

It worked so well! My nesties stayed exactly where I wanted them to stay and it made cutting frames with the Nesties a total breeze. I was able to roll it through with the same sandwich minus the shim on tab 2, but it was a bit tight and I was worried about breaking my machine, so I just did tab 1 and added the shim, and it worked well. I got a nice emboss with it. I also tried it with just the two cutting plates and not the crease pad, and that worked well also.

So if you have a computer magnetic sheet, I'd highly reccomend it! I just love freebies.

I travel with the big kick (same as the big shot, just a different color) with the handle on, with no problems. Just don't overload the bag, it will fit a couple of dies easily.

Have a great night!

I haven't tried it but don't see that it would be a problem. I've cut through thin metal no problems. If you try it let us know how it works out.

BTW, you can buy this stuff called adhes*a*mag from michaels (for cheap) it is great for holding nesties in place (you don't peel off the adhesive side for this) and I used it inside of one of my cabinets to hold my nestie dies, I don't have enough for all the dies, but will be buying some more my next trip out!

Thanks for those great ideas, the magnetic sheet diffently keeps them from slidding, and it is offering me the added benefit of a nice embossed edge!

Have a great day!

Hi Ladies,

I'd like know what sets of Nesties you recommend to start out with? I've ordered a bunch of Cuttlebug embossing folders and a few CB dies -- but what Nesties are a must have? I like Labels 1, Labels 2, and am thinking I need Circles Set Classic & Standard, Ovals Set Classic& Standard and Long Rectangles Set Large --- what're your recommendations? Also, what're your fav Sizzix Dies -- I'm already getting most of the SU Exclusives.

It all depends on what your preferences are. I pretty much have them all and the ones that I use the most are the Circles: large, small and scallops; and the Ovals: Petite set. I have the regular set as well, but rarely use them as the ovals are wider than I prefer.

I am going to use the pillow box to make Valentine treats. I wanted to make them clear and wanted to you acetate. Where do you buy this and what thickness do you use. I had used a clear page cover but not thick enough. Also, when using the pillow box die cut do you use the crease pad? I was doing last night and the score was cut a little too. I put a new plate on and it was better. Thanks

Tremendous amount of information. Thanks. I enjoy the stamping up little basket die and have made a bunch! Had to buy the extended platforms though.

I have the extended platforms but I found that using the platforms the cut on the basket was too sharp and the basket wouldn't really stay rounded where the score was. I was going to buy a second crease pad and use two (to cover the whole die) instead of the top platform to ensure the score remained a score and not a sharper cut.

the sandwich I used
extended cutting platform
baskets die
card stock
extended cutting platform

plan to use
extended cutting platform
baskets die
card stock
crease pad

I need to make 100 of these baskets stamped with sunflowers for my daughters wedding.

Any suggestions.

Default basket die

Did that work for you. I didnt' have too much problem using the regular sandwich before I got the extended platform These big dies are going to be harder to store than my other dies.

I just got my Big Shot from SU. I love it! I wanted to try out the Texturz plates I bought from Sissix....it wasn't until I was making the sandwich that I realized that I had an impressions pad ( crease pad ) & needed the silicone rubber also. I didn't clue in that the silicone rubber was different from the crease pad because I had never heard about it before. I started reading from the beginning of this thread ( again ) & things started to make more sense. I've spent a fair amount of time shopping on the Sissix site & never seen anything about the Texturz Starter Pack or the silicone rubber......until this morning. I guess I got so caught up with all the fun designs that I didn't read everything that went with it. Oh well........lesson learned.......I need to read all the details again & again & again. I guess I'm going to be paying my friend "Michael" a visit. I never seem to walk out of that store with just what I went in for. (hehehe) Thanks for all the great info.!!!!!!!!

Just tried my Wizard for the first time with the embossing and cutting die they sent with it. I found it takes a bit of strength to get it through.

Alicia,

Thank you. The one by Diana Gibbs looks like it held the round really well. I will try that before I buy the second crease pad. Maybe I will sit down and try it tomorrow. Making valentines today! Trying to get ahead of the game.
I appreciate it.

If you use Cardstock for the bottom your basket will be sturdier at the base.

I got my Wizard on Friday and have been playing with it. I cannot get a cuttlebug embossing folder to go through it. Is the white master emboss mat different from the white spacer plate? My Wizard came with two of the same size white mats which I think are the emboss mats and the square mat which I think is the master cut mat, but I do not think I have the white adapter mat or the white spacer plate. I watched the videos on YouTube, but still cannot get the darn thing to emboss cause the sandwich using the plates I have is too thick. Any suggestions? Can you tell I am a little frustrated?

So now I am trying to use my new top note die in my cuttlebug since I am having difficulties figuring out my Wizard. Apparently I don't have enough thickness using the cuttlebug because the die did not cut all the way through. Sheesh...maybe I need to go to bed and start over tomorrow.

Default Cutting Felt

First of all, thank you for all the "can't live without" information here. I just got my Big Shot for Christmas & this thread has been sooo helpful! The videos & tutorials are lifesavers.

I have a question - can you use felt with the Join in the Cheer Decorative Strip Die or dies of that type? Are they too thin to do different materials, i.e. felt with or can you do some other sort of sandwich, cutting plates, shims or something to make that work?

Thank You so much in advance for the tips, information & ideas!

The low profile dies such as the sizzlets and decorative strips are only meant to cut paper, vellum and Cardstock. One sheet at a time.

I wrote Sizzix to ask about the star and snowflake dies, the big ones. Paper kept getting stuck in the dies. They recommended using scotch tape to lift the paper out of the dies. Anyone else have this problem?

Wizard. You are supposed to label the mats that came with the machine. I think the two big ones are the cutting mats and I'm not sure at the moment what the littler one is for. I did cut and emboss with the die that came with the machine and it was awesome. I ordered some new dies and will get around to trying them this weekend. Let you know how it goes. I find the machine hard to push through but I don't have much strength due to age and arthritis.

My Big Kick doesn't teeter at all. It sounds like it isn't level, like you said. Maybe one side of it isn't quite right. Try shimming it a bit to see if that helps, if not, contact Sizzix.

Default Scallop Envelope Die/gift card holder

I got all of my goodies from SU! today! What fun I have had tonight! Hubby looked at me a few minutes ago and told me, "You know, you have to go to bed tonight, right?"
I know I saw a tutorial where you use the Scallop Envelope Die to make a gift card size envelope. Can anyone direct me to this since I have misplaced the link?
Thank you,
Colleen

I know I saw a tutorial where you use the Scallop Envelope Die to make a gift card size envelope. Can anyone direct me to this since I have misplaced the link?
Thank you,

I think I am having a blonde moment.

I feel as though I am forcing the sizzlet through the machine, I ended up using the long skinny base, and then the two mats with it. Am I doing something wrong, with the bigger base, I felt I was going to break the machine. I know I am a Dorkfish! SO, just smack me upside the head. I have always had the Quickutz Revolution, so this is all like another language to me the sandwich things....I hope someone can help. I did get it to go through and the little flower was cut out and embossed so beautfully, but I don't want to break my Big Shot!

I hope someone can help! I have Stamp Club this weekend!

I use the white platform and the two clear plates and the sizzlet cuts fine. Maybe your machine is new and a little bit stiff? I did use some old dies today that I had some trouble cutting with. They are discontinued now.

Well lets walk through it

This is the sizzlet sandwich from the bottom up
Multipurpose Platform Tab 1
Standard Cutting Pad
Sizzlet Die blade side up
Cardstock (only 1 sheet)
Standard Cutting Pad
Roll through Big Shot

For Embosslits
Multipurpose Platform Tab 1
Standard Cutting Pad
Embosslits with 1 sheet of Cardstock inside
Standard Cutting pad
Roll through Big Shot

If you are using the Decorative Strips (same thickness as the sizzlet)
Extended Spacer Platform (Decal SIDE UP)
Decorative Strip Cutting Pad
Decorative Strip Die Blade side Up
Cardstock (only 1 sheet)
Decorative Strip Cutting Pad
Roll through Big Shot

*You cannot cut anything thicker than 1 sheet of paper, vellum or Cardstock at a time with Sizzlets. These are low profile dies and cannot cut through thick materials.

*You can put multiple sizzlets on your cutting platform when cutting

There may be some resistance on your machine because it's calibrated differently. No two Big Shot Machines are going to have the same pressure distribution but the sandwich should work.

In some cases when the die and plates are at the very edge of your sandwich (right up against the rollers) the machine can't engage. Try moving the dies closer to the Back of the sandwich so that the rollers can catch as you move it through the machine.

When I got my new machine I found that the more I cut with the sandwiches the easier it became to roll them through the machine. You may have to hold the machine in place as you are rolling and that's ok too.

If you have any other questions just let me know!!

Hugs and Blessings
