I'm thinking of getting a heat tool so that I can emboss. I am a SU customer and I'm sure the heat tool they have would be very good. You that have used the heat tools which ones do you recommend? TIA
I use a Milwaukee Heat Gun (model #1400). It's the best. I've had it for years & it's still going strong. Milwaukee brand specializes in heat guns of all sizes for painting & such. They know how to make a great, long lasting tool.
I had the Marvy one before I got my SU one. IMO, there is no comparison. The Marvy one went, ummmmmm, I don't remember what happened to it. It is just gone.

I have the Darcie one and ....it works ok. I was thinking, which one to get when this one dies (it's a cheap one). Why does everyone say the SU one is so much better. I mean they all do the same thing ..... how does it do beter? Sorry to hijack!
I'm pretty sure Milwaukee makes the Stampin Up one. I bought a Milwaukee about 12 years ago from my local stamp store and it is a GREAT heat gun. It will probably outlive me!
I had the Marvy, and was totally happy with it until I tried the SU gun. SU's is much better. It's quieter, and has less air movement, the embossing powder stays in place better. (although I had no complaints before). The SU gun is also easier to control, and I get less paper warpage with it. I just bought the Heat-it. I wish I had an SU to compare against the Heat-It rather than just my memory. I'm thinking I still like the SU better...but the Heat-It is fine too.
Buy a SU HEat Gun. It is the best. I had 3 Marvy's that wouldn't work. I kept taking them back to the Craft store. Finally i just gave up. I do have a little one but it doesn't heat up very fast. The SU Heat Gun heats up really fast and you can do alot of embosing with it. i always emboss something on my cards. And I usually make 50 cards at a time. if I've got the stuff out I'm going to make cards. So Buy A SU HEAT GUN. You'll be glad you did.
I want the SU one. My gun came as part of a package at a craft show, don't even know what brand but it has lasted many many years. Still, when I was making some Christmas ornaments, it took a really long time to heat my embossing powder and I have heard that the SU gun is faster.
Yes, the SU one is made by Milwaukee. I had a "Heat It" tool previously (which I gave to a friend as soon as I bought the SU one) and have used the Marvy one as well. The SU heats *SOOO* much faster. It does blow a little harder, which I've heard a few complaints about, but if that's a problem then just heat your paper from underneath!
I had the same experience of buying 3 Marvys and having all of them die within the first 2 days of card making. You are so right about the SU - it is hot fast, doesn't blow all the powder away, shuts off easily and can take hours of card making marathons when I'm putting Christmas or Valentine's together.
I do want to share a caution I picked up here at SCS a couple of years ago: unplug any heat gun when you're not using it. Kids and pets have managed to turn them on and start fires for some folks! Yikes!
I have the Marvy and so far, have had no problems with it ... it's about 5 or 6 years old now.
Having said that, I'm currently shopping around for a great buy on a Milwaukee to replace it. I've heard that the Marvy will prolly just stop working one day clear outta the blue, so I'm just planning ahead ... hmmmm, now there's a first!!
My Marvy started to melt the metal nozzle into the plastic housing. I wrote to Marvy Uchida twice but got no response. I bought a SU after reading other reviews here on SCS and I am more than satisfied. I once had a Darice and it was a dud.
I have a SU one, and then two others I bought in lots at ebay. One of those was much faster than my SU one. I was embossing a lot of cards for a church project and POOF and big sparks! I turned it off in between embossing each card but it overheated and died.
