I noticed that Michael's has the two kinds of refills for the ATG. Both refills are the same width and length. The General Purpose refill is 5.99, and the Acid Free is 9.99. Other than being acid free (which I don't care about for cards), is that the only difference. If so, then I'll stick with the General Purpose.
Thanks!

YIKES! That's expensive!! I get the regular 924 tape (non-acid free...also much less stinky than the AF) stuff from framingsupplies.com and it comes to $2.40 a roll. I buy a dozen at a time and it lasts me the better part of a year, depending on how creative I am. I've been ordering from them for 10 years or so.
Oh, let me clarify, the refills at M's have 2 in each package (5.99 for 2 General Purpose and 9.99 for 2 Acid Free). Of course, using a 40% or 50% off coupon helps bring the price down even more. I suppose if there is no difference other than one being acid free and more expensive, then I will use the General Purpose since I'm mostly using it for cards anyway!

The only time you would need the acid free one is if you're going to use something that you want to last for a really long time - like a scrapbook page or using a photo in your project. I wish the refills were only 5.99 & 9.99 here. Michaels must think Canadians are rich because the price is 9.99 & 16.99 respectively for the general purpose and acid free refills. Even with the 40% off its still expensive and forget ordering online - shipping kills any savings you find.
I buy the $5.99 ones, too, and always use a coupon. I have the other one that came with it and four boxes! LOL. Gotta stock up. Still on my first one!! I do like how long they last.
My question is .... can you use other non-Scotch refills in them? I know there are good deals out on the Web, and I was wondering if they fit. Anyone know?
Here is the best deal I've found for tape for the ATG gun. You get 12 rolls for $22.95, with FREE shipping. I've ordered from them several times and have been very pleased with the tape.
This company, Tape Depot, has an ebay store and sells the tape cheaper there than they do on their website. This is not an auction, but is a Buy it Now item:

Does it work in the Scotch gun from Michael's? That's the one I have but I can't ever get a definite answer as to which other tape works.
Sorry. Your definite answer is, "Yes", this tape works in the Scotch gun from Michaels. I am assuming you mean the pink one? I have it, and also own the original Scotch red 714 tape gun. Any tape that fits the #714 tape gun will work in the one from Michaels.
The guns are identical except for the color, and the same tape will fit both of them.

Thanks! I am happy to know that! I am going to check out that above link and bookmark it. I have 5 two-packs right now and then one other one, so a total of 11 rolls waiting my crafting bug! LOL. I am good for now, but I want to know a good source when I do run out. I figure I get a two pack of the Scotch tape at M's for $3.60 with a coupon. Not bad for two rolls.
Subscribing. Thank you for the ebay link for the better price on the refill tape. Just to clarify this will work in the pink ATG gun from Michael's? Thanks!

Yes, it will work in the pink gun from Mikes. See post #8 above.

They may sell a tape that is acid free, but the "bargain" tape I posted is not. I don't scrapbook, and just make cards, so acid free is not a problem for me.

Is this tape from the Tape Depot Acid Free? This is what I've been using...Gosh I hope it's acid free!!!!
The tape I buy from The Tape Depot is acid free. I'm not sure if this is the same tape as the one listed. When I order, I make sure it says acid free. I use the tape for both card making and scrapbooking, so I want to be sure also.
Thanks for all the info I just got my pink ATG for Christmas!
Hooray for you! I waited and waited to get an ATG gun, and now I don't know why. It is the best thing for cardmaking. I also like it a lot for altering composition book covers. That tape really holds well.
There is a little learning curve to using it, but before you know it you will forget you ever used any other adhesive.

here is another thread on the tape its for a "no name" brand i have never ordered but think im going to next time i need more i have gotten mine from framingsupplies.com they dont ship to canada so i drive across the border and pick it up along with other pkgs and i also fill the truck up with gas so it is worth it
I agree with Bugga...I buy 24 or 48 rolls at a time because I go through so much of it. I always use tapedepot on Ebay and have always had great service and quick delivery. blessings.
I recommend The Tape Depot "no name" 1/4 inch acid free tape. They will ship to Canada via USPS if requested. I gathered a group of people so we could all go splits on a case (ended up being two cases), and even with postage for me to resend the smaller orders to others, it was still quite economical. Yes, there was a small ordeal in the beginning with The Tape Depot but they came through in the end and fixed their error of shipping UPS (with major brokerage fees) and resending it by USPS as originally requested. If anyone else in Canada wants to do the same and would like to know any of my "key learnings", I'd be happy to share what I thought worked and what I would do differently next time. There will be a next time when my tape runs low :-)

I would like to order from them (Tape Depot) I'm in B.C., any advice would be appreciated. (How much should I pay per roll? and does it hold as well as the Scotch ATG brand?)

There's another thread on the ATG tape that lists some comments from Canadians have ordered. They will ship free to Canada if you spend over $56 according to this thread:
A 12-roll subpack of Reverse Wound Transfer ATG-7502 1/4 inch tape is $23.40 so you'd have to buy three of these (36 rolls) to qualify for free shipping. This makes the cost a little over $1.93 a roll. It is even cheaper if you buy a whole case (144 rolls) if you have the means to split the order with other cardmaking/scraping friends!
I only had the two rolls of Scotch brand that came with my gun and switched to The Tape Depot tape right after. I find the quality as good. A few others have stated they found that the TD tape gums up the rollers of their guns and often doesn't load well. I find so long as I follow the directions and carefully load my gun properly, there are no issues. I recommend it 100% based on my experience. I hope this helps.
