Hey everyone, I have the pink ATG and am LOVING it. I just removed my first used up roll of tape and put in a new one, and I got to thinking... is there a way to use that lovely long roll of 1/4" backing that is left over after you use all the tape up? It's already wound into a neat roll for you, and there's such a lot of it. If anyone thinks of a creative way to use it, let me know! I threw away the first one but it just seemed like there MUST be some creative thing I could have done with it. I thought of using it as white curling ribbon but it seemed a little plain. I also thought to use it as masking strips, since it has a waxy surface and would resist ink. But you'd be rather limited in what you could do with it. Suggestions?
I read somewhere of someone using these strips to make homemade glue dots. I'll see if I can find more details.

Here is where I order my tape. It's a super deal and has free shipping. It's on ebay, but not an auction. It is a Buy it Now item with the price stated.
Hi Bugga,
I know this is an old post but I am looking for a place to buy the ATG tape. The link is old and doesn't work.
What is the seller's name so I can find it again??
I think those fee's are insane! I live in Canada too so I know all to well what crazy fee's you can get when you go to pick up your US order at the PO. Thats why I try to stick to Canada for purchases and to other countries as well (China, Australia) that don't have all those fee's when they come across the border, but they deals on the American sites are so awesome! I have left a lot of US purchases in the online cart when I find out they send through UPS. I will not deal with them at all!
This is why I have a US p.o. box. I share it with one friend. It is $40 for the year, so $20 each. That is worth it in shipping fees alone, as lots of places ship at actual cost to US addresses.
I go to the box and p/u when I head down for groceries. I sooo love living close to the border (about once a month go there).

I'm so jealous of this box
Being in Nova Scotia, I'm six hours (roughly 600 kms) away from the Maine border in Calais, ME. I'd have to have a lot of orders on hand to make a 12 hour return trip and a couple tanks of gas worthwhile. I've joked with my husband that I need to become a civil servant with the Canada Border Services Agency so I can move to St. Stephen, NB. LOL!

Here's a current listing. The seller is "thetapedepot." The price may have gone up a little from the last one I posted, but it's still the best deal I found:
Location: CNY but I'd rather be in Bonaire snorkeling!

The ATG gun sits up on its own on its top on my table, beside me on the floor so I can just reach down for it or in a narrow plastic box on my craft table. I have a 31 Bags utility tote as my craft bag and the ATG sits on top of the stuff inside the bag.

Never mind! I managed to pull all the info together after a bunch of different searches here. This thread is great, but I think it's too long to be easily searched. I'm keeping my original post below for anyone else who might find it useful.
Do the 1/4" refills for the pink Scotch ATG 85 work in the original yellow ATG gun?
I know my yellow gun accepts either size, but I've only used 1/2" and want to get some 1/4". I need the 1/4" today and can get it at J's, but I want to make sure I can use it with my yellow gun.
Thanks!
ETA - oops - I think I'm now reading that the yellow ATG (700) does NOT take 1/4". It's options are 1/2 and 3/4". Can someone confirm this? I'd really like to use 1/4" in my yellow gun.
I've only read back this one page, so I wondered if someone could tell me how well this tape holds? I watched youtube tutorials on loading and it seems simple and I think I can handle the size. I just want to make sure I am not buying one more tape gun that doesn't hold well. I bought the Xyron Mega Runner, and that does hold, but I can't seem to find refills in the craft stores. I know a shop that has them, but it's a 45 minute trip to go get one! I have a Michaels and an ACMoore within 15-20 minutes and I don't shop online, so I don't have many choices.

My experience has been that the ATG tape holds very well on cards, layers, mats, etc. Be sure to "burnish" when you place it down. Don't just slap it on there.
For things like boxes or other 3-d items made with cardstock, where there will be some tension at the attaching point, I still think Score Tape holds better, and sometimes I use glue dots on things like that.
I've used the ATG gun to make tons of altered composition books, including the ribbon along the seam on the front, and they have held up very well, too.
I still use my Tombow Mono-Multi (green and white bottle) for attaching smaller or intricate pieces to my cards though.
I order my tape refills online from Tape Depots ebay store, and get a pretty good deal on it. I buy 12 at a time, and go through them quicker than you would think. I make a lot of stuff!

Thanks Bugga. I plan to pick up some Tombo Mono Multi with the green tip today yet. Still debating about the ATG. I have a coupon but I think they are already on sale at Michaels today, so I may use that coupon for something else....
Just got back from ACMoore and Michaels. ATG is $34.99 at ACM and $39.99 at Michaels! I think I will wait for a 50% off coupon. Only had a 40% with me. I did pick up a bottle of the Tombow mono multi....
I bought an ATG gun on Ebay and received it yesterday! I got it threaded today but don't have time to play with it now. I also bought replacement tapes on Ebay. I will use it this weekend!

I got a couple of rolls of the 3 M Gold tape free when I bought my ATG gun, so I used them first.
Then I did some research and decided not to use the pricey tape for my cardmaking. It doesn't matter if the tape I use on cards is acid free, lol. Also, I heard good reports about the generic tape.
I got some generic and have been very happy with it. So has my pocketbook!

I have the red ATG gun and am finding that when I go to lay down the tape, the tape slips off the ATG roller all the time. Does anyone have the same problem or the fix for the problem? It's getting really annoying. I've tried taking out the roll and putting it in again but it does the same thing. Just slips right off the small roller where it lays down the tape. Help!

Try placing the cardboard from an empty ribbon spool over the tape feeder. That's worked well for me to help keep the tape running nicely through the guides.

Thank you for your reply. Do you mean putting the empty spool over the small roller where the tape lays down on the paper? I know......I'm not the brightest crayon in the box.
I've had problems from time to time. I have both the yellow and the pink ATG guns. (I use yellow for acid free scrapbooking and pink for making cards.)
When that happens to me, I snap it open and turn the capture spool backwards just a tad. This adjusts the tension so the tape won't slip.

I have lost the black piece that goes over the used paper that is rolling on the right side of the pink ATG...does anyone know where I can get another one? I may have to buy a new gun

Surprisingly, I haven't seen any posts where someone has lost this piece. I would throw myself on the mercy of 3M and see if they'll help.

Thank you. I tried this but it didn't help.
I'm finding my tape roll is not layiing nice and flat in the unit but seems a bit wonky on it's cardboard spool. Kind of like the tape wants to separate. Also, the tape on the bottom little rollers keeps slipping off the rollers. I tried a new spool of tape but it did the same thing. Anyone else have an issue with this?? I know I'm probably not explaining it well at all.

Cardboard spool? All mine have plastic which clicks onto the plastic of the gun and holds it in place. (I know I'm not explaining that clearly) but there is nothing cardboard in the gun or the refills that I have had. I wondering if that is the problem.
I know when there was an issue with ATGs before that 3Ms customer service was really helpful.

This used to drive me nuts! I finally found a video on YouTube that shows what to do. I've looked but can't find it now (maybe someone else will be able to find it?) but here's what you do: Pull off one of the white cardboard sides of a Stampin' Up roll of ribbon and discard the other white side and the plastic core. Make a slit in that piece of cardboard directly from outside edge to the center of the small inner circle and then slip the cardboard over the left-hand reel of the ATG gun. Tuck the cardboard under the little black tabs in the middle of the reel. It acts as a shim to hold the tape onto the real. I hope someone else can find that video if this description doesn't work for you. I was ready to throw out the gun until I found out how to do this.
Lettering Mama, my first try was challenging, with the tape constantly slipping off, and had me questioning whether I made the right purchase. In retrospect though, I wondered if it was me or a bad roll, since I too felt I really followed directions. Because, I now have no problems, and it is one of my "can't live without" craft tools!!!!! Sometimes that first try can be rough, so I would say, please don't give up, it'll be a big payoff for you.
And, my tape rolls as well, are all on plastic rolls, no paper. However I do use the Gold tape, and have no problem with things coming apart. I make cards for family that live over seas in a humid climate, so I don't want to take chances.
Just used my ATG to readhere a "decorative panel" on the DH's toolbox. Love that thing.

I have the pink Atg 714 tape gun and have been noticing that each roll of adhesive that I buy for it stinks. So bad that all my cards, scrapbooking pages smell. Is it the gun or is it the adhesive? I smelled my friends today and her's doesn't smell at all, and she gets her refills at the same place as mine. Please help!
Thanks

It's the Scotch adhesive. It smells moldy to me, so I leave it out of the box for a few days. That seems to help a lot. When the roll I'm using starts to get low, I take another one out of the box and leave it out until I need it. The off-brand refills don't smell at all, so I usually buy them online. HTH
