Do the 908 and 924 tapes have the same holding power? I know one is acid free and the other not but since I only use the tape for cardmaking don't worry about that.

Is General Purpose tape the same thing as the 924 tape refills?

Hope that helps.
Do you think that gold ATG tape is any stronger or preferable to the regular ATG tape?

Clear as mud?

Here is a review of the ATG gun on Craft Critique which may explain why you "need" an ATG gun:

Craft Critique: Craft product reviews, crafty news and crafting events!: Why YOU need the Scotch ATG Gun!
Since you own both, what is your opinion of the gold vs regular ATG tape? I'm interested in knowing if one is stronger than the other or anything else you may have noticed. Thanks!

Default ATG from the Tape Depot

Hi everyone:
I hope I didn't already post this. I couldn't find it so I don't think I did.
This ATG from the Tape Depot is great! It's inexpensive and you can also get it with a starter kit of 6 rolls of tape. It holds different widths of tape which is really nice. Some ATGs only hold one size like 1/4"
Here is the link:
ATG 50 TAPE DISPENSER - SCRAPBOOKING ATG TAPE GUN | eBay

You may have to copy and post the link in your browser window. The ATG is a great gun without the name brand.

Just thought I'd share.
Thanks!

Default Me again!

I just searched to find the maker of the ATG I sent a link to in my above post. It's made by JVCC and you can also purchase them on Amazon a little cheaper.

Amazon.com: JVCC ATG1 ATG Tape Dispenser: For 1/2" and 3/4" ATG tape (Orange): Home Improvement

Just wanted to put another option out there for everyone.

The last several times I have ordered tape for my ATG gun, I have purchased this tape from Tape Depot on ebay. It is the best price I've found, and is a buy it now, with free shipping.

I had a couple of rolls of the gold tape when I first got my gun. I cannot tell any difference between the two tapes. Although, if anything, I like the tape from Tape Depot better, lol.

I don't scrapbook, so acid free is not an issue for me.

I have also been very happy with the quality and the price of the ATG tape from The Tape Depot. I've ordered twice now, the first was a 12-pack to try and then two full cases when I gathered a group together to go splits. The biggest thing for us Canadians is to ensure they will ship it to Canada via USPS and not Fedex or UPS as they gouge Canadians with exorbitant brokerage fees. My my order of two cases was accidentally sent UPS who wanted to charge well over $100 on a $300 order. I refused the order and The Tape Depot resent it the proper way.

I hope this helps!

I'm interested in getting the pink ATG and have a question for long time users of the ATG gun. About five years ago I made a mini scrapbook ( I think it's called a squash book) for my grandson. About four years later I was looking at it at his house and some of the pictures had come off. I could easily pop off the other ones. I took it home and reglued everything with liquid glue. I had used a tape runner originally, but I don't remember which one. The glue had dried up and had no more "stick" left. Both my grandson and I live in places with very low humidity. I suppose that could be a factor. Do any of you have years-old cards or scrapbooks that are still sticking with ATG adhesive?

I'm thinking of ordering these but have a few questions:

1. Will these fit the pink gun from michael's
2. The description says acid free - i need acid free for scrapbooking
3. Is this tape as good as the scotch refills you buy at michaels?

I have not used the tape from the Ebay store, I can tell ya the tape rolls are all the same size and fit the pink gun.

I use scotch gold so I do not know about the tape from Michaels...here is what Scotch has to say about the gold.....

Scotch ATG Gold is perfect for paper crafting, scrapbooking, framing jobs and other projects that require acid-free ATG tape. It possesses an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive system that combines a high initial adhesion (quick stick) with sheer holding power. Scotch ATG Gold is clear and only two millimeters thick. It is photo safe and has a pH value between 7.0 and 8.5.

Yes, the tape will fit the pink gun.

Yes, it is acid free.

I only used a couple of rolls of the Scotch refills when I first got my ATG gun a year or so ago.

Since then I've used this tape from Tape Depot. I honestly cannot tell any difference. If anything, I like the Tape Depot tape better. I certainly like the price better.

I just thought I would share what Scotch says about the 924 tape...it is not acid free....
3M 924 ATG tape is more forgiving than the 987. It is not acid free like the 908. It is generally used in framing shops to adhere mats, as mats can be separated and rejoined more easily than with the 987. It still has a strong holding strength and is great for paper crafting.

the tape here states at the bottom it is comparable to the 3M 924, so that means it is not acid free, like it states in the ad.....thought you may want to know.

Alternative To: 3m 924, Scapa TD00, Shurtape TG236, TESA NOPI, 7002-PV9

Hi Everyone!! I'm new here, but I have been lurking for a long time! LOL

I wanted to jump in and say that I ordered a box of refills from Tape Depot and have found that they gum up my rollers, and some of the tape doesn't come off when I'm trying to use it. I will use the rest of the refills that I bought from there because I can't see wasting it, but I won't buy the "off brand" refills again. I have always bought my from Crop n Stick, and will be going back there for them as soon as the junky ones are gone. It's a little more expensive but VERY worth it.

Crop n' Stick bumped their price up and now charge $11.50 shipping and $51.24 for a 12-roll box of 3M 908 (the Gold 1/4", 36 yard ). Though I only do cards and don't need acid-free tape, the acid-free 908 makes a tighter bond and doesn't leave as much gummy residue on the gun parts.

My gun is a 3M 714 I've had for alotta years and uses the 1/4" , 36 yard tape only, unlike the 3M 700, which uses the 1/2" but can also use the 1/4" if you buy the gun-adapter.

The 3M ATG 908 tape is on sale now at framingsupplies.com. I paid $41.64 for a box of 12 rolls, and the shipping to California was $13.65, today.

I did that after spending most of the day shopping all the sites that carry that tape. Would you believe there are some vendors selling the 908 tape for $9.95 a roll. Most others are selling it in the $5 a roll range.

On the Framingsupplies site I found a new twist.........several tapes that are described differently from any of the 3M ATG tapes I've seen there in the past. That, along with the Sale price on the 908, suggests that industry is changing like all the others and the 908 may be on its way out. I do know the tack is not the same as it was a year ago, and in any other economy I would have complained that the quality has diminished while the price has escalated. But is there anything that hasn't had the same fate in the past couple of years? That said, the 908 is still my favorite tape.

Sounds like you and MelD might have gotten a bad batch. I researched The Tape Depot tape to death before I bought some to try. From everything I've read, very few people have problems with it and most of the time the problems seem to result from not loading the gun properly. I'm on my second batch of 10 rolls and love it. I find absolutely no difference from the Scotch tape that came with my gun ... except for the higher price for the refills.

Sorry to hear you haven't liked the tape.

I want an atta girl
I have been following this thread and have not been able to find too many people who have given up on the ATG. So I used a 50% off coupon today at Michaels. Which is fine. But I want an atta girl for being able to figure out how to load the tape in it !!! Am using it to make composition books, and loving it.

Okay, Cathy - You've been my cheerleader, so here you go:

Hip Hip Hooray for Cathy!!! She got her gun and loaded it.

I was like you and waited a while to get mine, but absolutely cannot make anything without it now. Let us see your books when you're done.

Well, just because I figured out how to put the tape in doesn't mean I know how to post a photo - first I have to find the camera!

Ugh... I just realized that I only have three refills left (I had two that I had to throw away) of my box of 12. Do I go back to CnS and pay more, or try TapeDepot one more time? There is NO way I am going to pay $9.99 at Hobby Lobby for 2 rolls (even with a coupon!)...

What to do...

If I had the problem, I would ask that the 3 bad rolls get replaced by c and S. They have raised their prices significantly, last I looked, so ............

At the same time, I would order a 12-roll box of 3M908 tape from framingsupplies.com because they are having a Sale and will also send USPS if you ASK, making it the best deal around today.

Don't bother with Tape Depot!!!! My friend and I have had struggles with every roll that we bought from them. The roll is difficult to push onto the gun because the roll's plastic center piece is misshapened and the tape sticks to the "wrong" side of the roll so I have to peel it off to make it unroll in the correct direction. I've also have the tape break mid-spool.

I'm going back to framingsupplies.com for my next order and get the 3M stuff!!

Sounds like you might have gotten a bad batch that should have been sent back. Even the name brand guys have the occasional quality control issue. I've had the complete opposite experience. Between my mom and I, we've gone through over 30 rolls from two separate orders and neither of us has had one inkling of a problem. We started off splitting one batch of 12 and when that worked out, we moved up to a whole case load (well two cases) with other people sharing the order. Of the people who participated in my group order, only one person had an issue with one roll of tape out of 288 rolls of tape, or out of 300 rolls if you count the first order of 12 we had. Those seem like pretty good odds to me

Default Tape Depot

I was just wondering if any of you who had problems with Tape Depot refills contacted them about it?
I want to know if they stand behind their products.

Thanks!

I'm with Leslie. I always get my tape from Tape Depot and have had very little problems with it. Sounds like you might have gotten a bad batch. I would contact them about it.

I have occasionally had the middle hole in the tape spool be a little what I call "wonky", not quite round, but it isn't a problem to just work it onto the gun, pressing firmly until it sits properly.

For the difference in price I am more than willing to take a chance on an occasional glitch.

We suffer in silence...silly, I know, I just didn't want to bother. The first few rolls of many were OK but all the others have been difficult.

I have a super basic question about using the ATG. If you are putting a layer on the front of a standard A2 card, how much tape do you use? Do you go all the way along each edge? I tend to do that but use less for the insert - figuring it is under less stress. Forgive me if this has been asked and answered.

I have a tendency to use a lot of adhesive so I put a strip down each side and one in the middle. At the very least you want to have each corner adhered so they don't bend upward.

Actually, I think it's a great question! I used to use little sections but now I tend to use more, about the same as you and Cathy H. I don't know if it matters, but I live in Arizona, and the tape doesn't always hold up over time. I've even had people tell me my card fell apart! :=( But now with Scotch 3M tape and plenty of it, I have better luck. Another thing: if I am giving the card to someone who I don't think will keep it, such as my sons, I will use less tape.

I make a solid square or rectangle so all four corners are well secured and if it is a larger piece, I'll add a little line in the middle for good measure. My mom uses double what I use but my cards have stayed together so far except for the ones which had sparkly paper as the sparkly paper curled up and lifted away from the card. I retaped them all with a double batch and put a heavy weight on the card to flatten it but it still wants to curl.

Thanks everyone. The consensus is to go completely around all the edges and sometimes add a line through the middle. When I first started, I was told by the SU demo to just use about an inch or two on each side. The tape wasn't as good as the ATG tape. Those cards have all fallen apart. I think it was because we were using her tape that we were using so little. I have started using more. But I am finding that the Scotch Gold tape is a heck of a lot stronger. Thanks again. I have been stamping for about 9 years and still have questions. It is amazing how much there is to learn and how fun it is!

Thank you so much for this link. You made it so easy for me to get the right size for me pink atg. I found it overwhelming when trying to find the right refills on ebay.

I had a couple of rolls of the gold tape when I first got my gun. I cannot tell any difference between the two tapes. Although, if anything, I like the tape from Tape Depot better, lol.

I don't scrapbook, so acid free is not an issue for me.

Hi!

A few girls in Winnipeg are getting together to order some tape - I think we will go with the gold 3M tape. Anyone interested in joining up to share? I am willing to ship within Canada. Price will be determined once we know how many are interested. I can drive down to the border to pick it up and save on shipping.

Thanks!

Lauren
