I finally purchased an ATG tape gun from Michael's with a 50% off coupon...it was still not inexpensive, so I have not get taken it out of the packaging...arg! I make a card or two a week, but I find the other tape rolls I have go so quickly. Also, after a few years, the cards seem to fall apart, as the glue dries out. It came with two rolls of the advanced 'gold' tape. I would likely still use my Creative Memories tape when scrap booking, is this a worthwhile purchase for using as a card making tool only?
The general consensus on this forum seems to be positive. I see I'm about 8 years late to the discussion!

Better late than never, lol! Yes, I would say it's a worthwhile purchase. Before I got my ATG years ago, I used a combo of liquid Tombow, different snail types, and regular scotch double side tape to assemble my card layers.

I was not really happy with any of them. The liquid could be messy if I applied to much, and it oozed out the edges. The others didn't seem to hold well, and didn't last long. I was always running out and trying to find them on sale.

The ATG takes a little learning curve to use, but it is so worth it! It is by far the most cost effective adhesive I think, and it sticks so well. I will never be without my ATG and several rolls of tape in reserve.

Give it a chance before you make up your mind. The ATG can be a little tricky to load the tape into if you haven't done it before. There are lots of youtube videos to help with that.

Hope you like it. I use mine on every card that I make.

I use my ATG for every card I make, Cathy. I buy the 1/4th inch tape from Tape Depot or Tape Jungle and get 12 rolls at a time.

Thanks to both of you who answered my question. I have been using tape that is 1/2 inch wide - maybe that is why I have been having problems?!?!? ANYWAY I am going to stock up since the Tape Jungle has a 20% off offer right now. Thanks again.

Cathy H, if you want to use the 1/2" tape, you need to purchase the purple ATG gun.

I got my tape gun a few weeks ago. It was not as difficult to put the tape in as I thought it would be...it came with a large photo of how to load, and I also watched a youtube video. I have the 1/4", and I'm very happy with it...although the machine is quite large, it's easy to get into smaller spots with the narrow tape. I really like it.

Default Tape falling off with pink ATG gun

Hi, Just wondering if anyone is experiencing the tape roll falling off of the wheel on the pink atg gun. I am positive I have it on correctly and it works for awhile, but then lifts up off the wheel and falls off. This is the wheel towards the front of the gun. I have had this happen with both the Scotchguard rolls and some off of Ebay. Appreciate any help as just about to call it quits.

When you put the tape on the front spool, really press it down firmly. You should feel/hear a little click when it's correctly installed.

I've never had this problem, and I have several ATG guns, a red one, and a couple of pink ones that I picked up on sale. It could be that your gun is defective?

I think the problem is the tape roll is moving which causes the tape up to become loose. Using the extra core will help keep the roll in place (see video).

Try this:

I don't have a 1/2" core, so I used an old 1/4" core and it worked fine for me.

Another thing to try (I have not tried yet):

I follow a tip I read a while back. Take one cardboard round disk from a roll of Stampin' Up! ribbon - you know how the 2 cardboard disks are mounted on the plastic core? Well, take one of those and wedge it in front of your roll of ATG tape, under that little clip. It should help your tape stay on the spindle and also keep it centered better on the rubber guide.

This may be the answer I was looking for. My ATG has been getting progressively worse. The tape roll pops off, or the used spool spring suddenly releases. I thought I would have to replace the gun, but maybe one of these will save me.

I purchased the 2 ATG 714's several years ago along with several rolls of tape. I use 1/4" and 1/2", depending on my project. The problem I've been experiencing is that the tape seems to either "dry out" on the card and releases or perhaps, it's just not a strong adhesive. After trying LOTS of different tape, I found that Crafter's Companion double sided tape works best for me. It's a little tricky to use, but once you get the hang of it, it works very well. Only problem is I think it's a little pricey. $14.95 for a 3 pack of 72 ft. It's permanent and extra strong. Got it thru HSN.

I've been using the pink ATG w/ 1/4" acid-free tape for 4-5 years now in my mixed-media scrapbooks and have been happy with the ease of use and durability UNTIL this month when the adhesive just refused to stay on the "right" side of the rolls no matter how many times or how many fixes I tried. Six discarded stockpiled rolls and two calls to the 3M/Scotch folks later, and it turns out that the refills have a 2-year shelf life and mine were probably 3-4 years old. Confirmed that this was indeed the issue when the new refills I bought work just fine. Since they're not marked with a "best used by" date, the CS folks recommended I use them within a year of purchase. I was also told that there's no "shelf life" to the adhesive once off the roll and bonded to the paper (aka, it's permanent). I sure hope so, since I'm planning on handing my scrapbooks down to my DD! Do *other* brands of adhesive tapes also have a shelf life? I bought several Tombow permanent runners/refills to try before I realized I didn't have to give up my ATG!

A suggestion so that you don't have to throw out your opposite-wound & unrepairable rolls -- You can apply the tape without the ATG. It's a lot slower but at least it uses up what you have.

Absolutely right, lindylou! Even though the tape still releases from the project after a while, it works great for securing wrapping paper! Worked great this past Christmas on all our gift wrapping and the best part, everything stayed secure until the gifts were opened!

I found a video on youtube about how to load the opposite - wound rolls!
