Default ATG Gun opinions

I bought one today, and hope I didn't make a mistake. I have read somewhere that it really helps save on tape. Ladies, give me your thoughts.

Worthwhile investment, one of the best. The ATG is one of those tools that once you get the hang of it you'll wonder how you ever lived without it before. Got one for a gift last Christmas and I have not looked back. Other than the occassional pop dots, red line tape, scor-tape, and dimensionals, for special touches, I use my ATG exclusively.

I love mine and the tape rolls last a long time. But, I cant put the new roll on the dispensor or if it slips off (user error ) I have to get my husband to re-thread it. One time I had to get the neighbor guy to do it because my husband was at work!

I love mine. I have had it 6 months or so and can't believe I waited so long to buy it. I also have to get mydh or ds to put a new roll on as I am not at all mechanically inclined, but it is so easy to use (see the above mechanically inclined comment). The rolls of tape last so long and are sooooo much cheaper than mono adhesive. Can't recommend it enough!

RUN and get one fast! I love love love my ATG!!!! The rolls will last forever. I think they come in 36 yards if I remember correctly. I have had mine for over a year. Every scrapper/crafter must get one. You won't regret it!

I bought one for my birthday last year and I love it. I have some dotto and snail type adhesive left from before I bought it. The other day I tried to use it up and it was such a pain to work with compared to the ATG. You will love it!

LOVE mine, got it last summer and although I don't stamp A ton, I do get some done and have let my friends use it..........I've only replaced my roll once so far. It's not only cheaper (I bought 12 rolls, you know, used to how you run out quickly in the ditto) but better adhesive (IMO). It takes a lil getting used to but once you get it..........it's the BOMB!! Enjoy!

Is it easy to do small lines of glue with? I usually try to conserve my adhesive by just putting say 1/2" adhesive in each corner of an item, but I'm wondering how well the gun works for short segments like that. I find my Herma repositionable is great for that, but the Herma permanent is horrible at it.

I bought an ATG gun a year ago. It was everything people claimed it was...including big and bulky. I have degenerative arthritis and my right hand is very weak. I can't handle the bigger, heavier gun. Today my Glue glider pro arrived and I LOVE it. The glue isn't sticky and gooey, the gun is light and easy to handle and it pretty and pink and green. It has a cartridge so it's not as hard to change tape and it uses three different kinds of tape. The cartridges are more expensive than the tape and they don't hold as much tape but I'm okay with that. When I see them on special I'll buy them. You don't have to push anything to apply the glue and the glue doesn't get all over everything when you put it in your bag. Had it not been for the arthritis I would have been happy with the big atg gun but I just couldn't handle it. I was hoping and praying this new gun would work...and so far, so good.

I love my ATG and would not trade it for anything. I have carpal tunnel and it does not bother me. There is a period of adjustment but once you get used to it everything will be great. It saves me a ton of money on adhesive since I scrap more than card make. Hope you enjoy!

You'll have to review the guns and what size tape they take. I think the smallest is 1/4 inch but not sure and I believe the other sizes are 1/2 in and 3/4 in. Some guns allow you to use different widths depending on your project. I stuck with 1/4 tape although I think I can put 1/2 in. in it too but I just add another strip if need be. I think it's easier to do longer stretches of tape but I've done small spots too......I add more adhesive than just my corners but think it'd work for what you do, you'll just have to practice with it.

I adore my ATG!!!

Now, I have "real" adhesive and some i got from Tape Depot - cause there was a huge thread about their tape.

I can not for the life of me get the "fake" tape in my gun. I may just be having DUH moments, but the "real" ATG tape goes in without a problem!

I have to agree - the best crafting purchase I ever made. I never run out of tape at an inconvenient moment, the stuff sticks like (pardon the expression) white on rice, and I can apply it where I want every time. Be careful though - there is a product called "ATG 50" that is supposedly a "smaller" ATG. It is NOT manufactured by 3M, and has had terrible reviews.

I bought the generic one that is like the ATG from Tape Depot...I love it! It works as good as my friend's actual ATG...plus it's a lot less $. Their tape is also excellent too.
Here's the link if your intrested: http://www.thetapedepot.com/cart/com...page/Itemid,1/

Well, I'd definitely get the 1/4", as you said you can just lay down some more if you need it wider. Yes, I was wondering if you could do short stretches of tape and it sounds like it's doable. Anyone else find this works ok too?
Although I guess since the tape is so inexpensive using more of it isn't as much of an issue!

ive tried all the tapes, and although some are good, in the long run, you save much more on ATG.
Ive done so many things this past month, and still half way through the tape., great product

I have found that I can make it any length I like, including less than an inch. I know it seems odd that you can do this with such an awkward looking contraption, but it really is easy to use. I splurged on one last summer and rarely use anything else unless I need to glue on a small embellishment. I originally planned to still use my mono for when I need to travel with supplies, but have found that I don't want to leave home without my ATG. I highly recommend it. (I have the 714 which uses 1/4 inch tape). HTH

Thanks Barb,
Your reply regarding short pieces does indeed help. I wondered about it, but both you and missinkyfingers have said it's doable so... sold! Now I just need to justify the big outlay of cash...

This gun rocks! It is big and bulky and it took me a bit to get used to it and now I never use anything else!!! I think it is way worth the money...my other small tape runners broke all of the time!

Hi all,

Quick question... Are the 700 and the 714 dispensers the same size? They look like they are. I think the 714 is next on what seems like a never ending list of the things I "need". lol! I found it for $55 CAD at http://www.nhsmedia.com/atgtapes.htm#APPLICATORS

Thanks,
Angela

The dispensers are the same size but the tape widths are different. The 714 only uses 1/4 inch tape. The 700 dispenses 1/2 inch tape unless you buy an adapter for the 1/4 inch tape. Most users find that 1/4 inch tape is sufficient for paper crafting. HTH.

I just bought the ATG from Tapedepot. It arrived on Wednesday and I spent all day yesterday using it. LOVE IT! It loaded extremely easy, is lightweight, and I am amazed at how it works. I paid $43 for the ATG and 12 rolls of tape. You can't go wrong with whichever ATG you go with.

I received my ATG-50 yesterday. Pretty cool, but I have a minor problem. When I am running it down a piece of cardstock and I get to the end, I let go of the trigger, but the tape doesn't stop nice and cleanly, I have to pull the gun back and stretch it out for it to break off. Is that normal?

I personally...think it's MASSIVE and overwhelming...too BIG...it's bulky and topheavy...not for me... I love the Glue Glider Pro I bought instead. It's like the MAX...but smaller..more to my size...and it's PINK and lime green. I Love it.
Enjoy ..

You need to anchor the tip of your ATG where you want the adhesive to stop. Then release the trigger. And pull in a sharp tug. It takes a little practice, but you'll get the hang of it.

I've had my ATG since before they even offered the 1/4" size. I love it and use it almost exclusively (the only exceptions being red line tape and foam tape). It can take a little practice, but it's absolutely worth the effort to learn!

I bought a 700 as an impulse buy (oh nooos!) last year at a craft show. I love it!

One of the best purchases I've ever made and I've made a lot (I work PT in a LSS)!!! I got the 714 and it is wonderful for attaching ribbon, plus everything else. The tape is so cheap too.

I feel really bad selling my customers the traditional scrapbook adhesives that are so expensive and don't hold nearly as well as the ATG stuff. We have samples in the store using the adhesive we sell, that are not holding and it's embarrassing!

I thought the size would be intimidating - loved using the little SNAIL. Until I heard of and experienced the older cards with SNAIL starting to come up ~ and running out of adhesive all the time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my ATG. Wouldn't want to be without it.

Actually just yesterday, I was using it for a non-cardmaking project and thinking, gee, I really miss making cards (time constraints lately). The roll just goes and goes and you know you're getting a good solid stick. It's a piece o'cake and fun to use ~ it took me one cardmaking session to get used to it. . . the size, the mechanism, and a place to set it down. Love it.

On top of all that - there had been a problem with some and 3M, and Barb at 3M, were FANTASTIC about replacing it and providing rolls of tape to replace what might have been lost. The new gun is ACES!!

I have not bought an ATG either, I am with you, I think it looks huge and bulky. I have been using the herma tape and it drives me crazy, the tape always gets stuck and won't roll off good, maybe I am doing something wrong. Where did you get the Glue Glider Pro from? And Pink and Lime green, you gotta love it!

Another Glue Glider Pro here. Love, love, love it! I have very small hands and it works beautifully for me. Awesome customer service from those people too.
