Anyone replace blade on genesis trimmer?

After many years of cutting, my genesis paper trimmer blade is no longer as sharp. Bonnie's Best sells the blade only, which requires some kind of tool to use, or the whole assembly. The latter is over $50. The blade is around $20. Wondering which I should get. I have no idea how to change anything and also wonder if it is difficult.

I think it uses an allen wrench. Pretty common and cheap tool. Bet your DH might even have one around. I'd go with just the blade. The tool is a few $$$ at most at Home Depot if your DH doesn't have one.

ok, allen wrench. the chances that MY DH has an allen wrench are slim to none, but you never know what junk is laying around the basement left over from the previous owner of our house!!!!!

You never told me you had a GENESIS!!!! ;) That being said, you KNOW that my gearhead, oops, I mean DH, has one. Is it something worth getting together for?

Lots of Ikea furniture come with allen wrenches. So does the Big shot (used to attach the handle).

An allen wrench looks like a piece of metal bent at a 90 degree angle and it's shaped like a hexagon (or maybe it's an octogon).

For the kind of money a Genesis trimmer costs, I would have thought it would stay sharp forever! Can anyone tell me what's so special about the thing that it's worth waiting years and paying big bucks for? Thanks!

I've change the blade on a really old Genesis (the grandfather to the current one that I got on ebay and gave to a friend) and it's not hard. Just make sure you line up the blade in the same place otherwise it will be too low or too high.

I have three Genesis 12" 16" and 19" cutters. I use my 12" the most and have used it every day for the last 6 years. The blade is still going strong. I may replace the housing since it's starting to wear alittle. This cutter cuts down to the mm and since there is no bar that comes down to hold the paper, you can trim a finished project if you need to. It may seem $$$$ but if you never have to buy replacement blades or a new cutter when the plastic ones wear out, it's well worth it.
