I have posting fever today! I just became a Polyshrink Goddess....can't wait to see what's next!
I want to make a shaker card. I couldn't find acetate sheets at Hobby Lobby. Does Michael's sell them? If not what else can I use? I've never made a shaker card. Thanks!
**running off to search shaker cards..coffee in hand**
Really, anything clear will work. Some yogurt containers have clear plastic lids....of course that does limit you to size, lol, but free is free after all! Overhead transparencies, as Kiko mentioned, will work just fine. Either kind, ink jet or laser printer, will work. The laser printer kind (sometimes referred to as the kind that will go through copy machines), can also be used to stamp and emboss images on. The ink jet kind will warp with heat.

Thanks for the skinny on this... I saw some cards by WaterPixie with transparencies and I was totally drooling over them :-D

Just a quick tip for shaker cards. Wash your piece of acetate with warm soapy water, rinse and dry with a paper towel before you make your card. This will eliminate all static cling!!
Happy stamping!

I am glad you asked this. I ordered some SU Window Sheets in my Nov Order to try the Smakin Acetate (spelling?!?) technique...and I was informed that SU is not selling them currently because they are having problems with the product. So I will go to an office supplies store and buy the laser printer transparencies as suggested above. Thanks for the info everyone! LM :-)
I made my first shaker card tonight and since I didn't want to spend $50 on transparencies at the office store I ended up reusing something I already had at home. I took the clear plastic from off a pizza box. I cleaned the plastic with one part Simple Green to nine parts water (which is what I use to clean my stamps). I think it worked great. I'm going to upload the pic tomorrow.

Have you tried the teacher supply stores in your area? I get them for my classroom there and they are cheaper that the office supply stores. Plus you get anywhere from 50-100 in a box so you don't have to buy them again for a while!
There were some clear plastic rectangles that were part of the packaging in my Cuttlebug embossing dies that I am saving for just such a use. I am also saving the clear plastic from the exterior packaging since it is smooth and flat. I also thought it would be good to stamp on with Palette ink or Staz on.

How do I find a teacher supply store? What is the name of the one you use? Thanks for the info!

We have several here: Off Campus, Schoolcraft, and Burkett's. You should be able to look in the phone book to find your local store. They are normally listed under office supply but they normally have teacher sounding names.
Okay, I made a shaker card, not a very good one, still learning, but I washed the acetate first and the static was gone! I always had that problem but not anymore! Thanks so much. Great tip.

thanks for all the great info! I have wanted to make a shaker card this week! now I have to look in my recycling and see if I can find some clear plastic!

What a font of knowledge you are!! Never made a shaker - too nervous I guess - but maybe I need to make a trip to Office Max today
I have used the SU small cello bags - really great if you need to put something fine in your shaker - e.g. sand for a beach/lighthouse scene. Just be sure to put the seam at the back. I put the background of the shaker box inside the cello bag as well. Hope that makes sense!
My local ofice depot sells laser printer transparencies for $0.50 per piece at the copy center counter. I read in another thread that you can emboss on these (the laser printer transparancies can take the heaat, I guess) so I tried it this morning and it worked! Now I can add a whole new dimension to my shaker cards and I can make my floating glass ornaments sparkle inside!
Ladies, is there a tutorial for shaker cards? For the ones that I have made, the confetti doesn't stick to the acetate, but rather to the pop dot/demensional adhesive used to create the shaker box.
Thanks for your help as always!
Hi, I have only made one shaker card, I used the clear plastic window from a pasta box. It worked great. But I have not mailed it out, so I don't know if it will hold up in the mail. Any ideas, should I use a padded envelope?
Here is the link to the shaker card: Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
If it doesn't work, I am not an expert linker. Go to the gallery, Technique Spotlight under the alpha list, then Shaker Card.
I save the packaging on my dies or embossing folders and use that . Same technique would apply in washing them to eliminate static. Have not tried embossing them as yet.
