Look at the blogs of Suzanne Dean Scrap Bitz

and Marianne Walker I Like Markers

and you'll see two different approaches to using Copics and the magic that they make! Warning: another expensive addiction in papercrafting

Simple and sweet, the point of a Copic marker is to blissfully ignore the world and just color. beautiful, clean, and creative coloring.

In fact, I think I am going to go ignore things for a while and color something...

The advantages that sold me are, very little to no streaking, and great blending capabilities. Otherwise, markers work great and are a helluva lot less expensive.

I owned Marvy markers, but my coloring with them was HORRIBLE! I'd be better off using crayons, which I'm also bad with.
And then ...
I discovered COPICS. Wow! I can color and blend like I never could before. Sure, my work looks childish next to others, but my family doesn't know that. Thanks to Copics, my family thinks I'm artistic! LOL

Check out SuzanneJDean's YouTube videos. She's the one that got me hooked on coloring with Copics: suzannejdean's Channel - YouTube

One advantage, especially for a beginner, is the PALE COLORS that you NEVER see in other marker brands. I started out with just a flesh tone marker E00 and a marker for shading/outlining B60 or C1. If you just want to try one or two, get those, and see how beautiful they color. No marker lines, just clean color.

Copics are made in Japan and the cost reflects the devaluation of the US dollar against other country's currencies. The exchange of one US dollar is only 3/4 of a Yen

They are sold individually , refillable and you can buy replacement nibs so once you buy them you never need to buy them again. The refill bottle will refill a sketch marker about 10 + times.

The magic for me is Copics make me look like I know what I am doing. I never had any art training and when I went to school art projects were not considered worth spending time on.

I think I got through 8 grades in school on one very small box of Crayola's and a 12 color tin of Prange paints LOL I love my Copics

I watched ginaK's tutorial a couple of weeks ago and am using Bic Markers (and sharpies) in place of copics! Much, much cheaper and they do a pretty good job!

Yes, Copic markers are very nice, and very pricey! I have a very few that I combine with Bics and Sharpies. I recently discovered the Shinhan Touch Twin markers, which are a very reasonable alternative to Copics.

They come in lots of colors and are blendable like Copics. They are a fraction of the price of Copics. Here's a link:

What I like is that they all work together. Touch, Bic Mark-Its, Sharpies, and of course, the ever popular Copics. (At least they all work together for ME)

Ok, I have tried Copics but haven't taken the plunge yet...

I looked at the ones mentioned at Jerry's and thought they might be a good way to at least see if I can get the blending thing to work for me. LOL I love the "brush" tip though, and can't find any place that sells those in the brush tips.

SOOOO... my question is this... If I was to start "collecting" Copics one or two at a time, what are the basic colors I should start with?

Not to hijack the thread, but LePlume is getting into the alcohol marker business and they are very inexpensive compared to the copics. My color advise is to get very light colors if you are getting copics.

I've just recently jumped on the Copic bandwagon and the one piece of advice I'll offer is that you've got to have paper that makes the Copics work they way they are intended to work. Or, you could think the markers are lousy or that you're doing something wrong when coloring with them.
