Default Uses for Xyron

I just bought a Xyron 510 with a 50% off Mike's coupon. It's sitting on my desk and I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with it. I've searched the threads and found a few neat ideas.

I put a punched scrap through and thought I had to cut it out. It had a layer of clear film over the top in addition to making the bottom sticky. Do you peel this clear top layer off?

Can you send a sheet of cardstock through and then put that in a die cutter machine?

Thanks for answering my newbie questions!

Default xyron

you will love this tool...
you can put anything flat through it, I have put chipboard, fabric, metal etc.
Yes you do pull the film off the top, and the sticky is under the object. make sure you put your item in good side up and roll it through.
I would think you can put it through a cricut, have not tried yet though, you can use regular die cuts and machines.
When I am running something through, and there is some wasted space, I put in a piece of scrap paper and stickify that and put it in a bin, so when I need to make a punch or a bit of small something, I have sticky paper all ready.
I hope this helps, have fun.

One thing I did for a Christmas title--I had a diecut that I wanted glittered, so I ran it through the Xyron back-side up--putting the sticky on the front.* Then I glittered the piece the way I wanted it, and ran it through again with the front-side up, and put it on my page.* Still looks great several years later, and hasn't lost any of the glitter!

Never thought of doing that!! Now I'm tempted, hehe. Thanks for the tip!

I have the 250 and there is no film to peel off so I guess its a little different. I love using my xyron for ribbon I just either stick several pieces though at a time as not to waste a lot, or Ill use my 150 if I only have 1 piece of ribbon to glue down.

What a great idea! I have a 510 and I am going back and forth on whether or not to keep it. The more ideas I get the more I lean toward keeping it.

The 510 is great! You can get a magnet, double sided laminate, or sticker cartridge. I've used them all and it's great for large projects.

Yes - you do have to trim out the objects, but it's great for Xyron-ing a multitude of 'stuff'. I double-laminated my wine glass charms (you can see them here) That was a long time ago, but they still have held up today!

The problem I've found with the 510 is, unless I have a lot of stuff or a large project to run through it, I won't use it. I like to get as much thru the machine on one pass as I can so I don't use up all my cartridge!!

The more you experiment the more you will fall in love with it!! Do a search on the forums to learn more. HTH!!! ;)

oops, my bad, (do people still say that?) I have the 500. I read about the magnets and the laminating and Got excited, then realized that I didn't have that capability. Anyway. Still on the fence as to keeping or getting rid of it. I agree with Pam, I tend not to use it unless I can cram a lot through it so as to not waste a cartridge.

Okay, more ideas... stamp on a piece of acetate & run it through, apply glitter/mica powders to the sticky so that it shows up 'under' the stamping. Ribbon, little shapes, anything that you want edge to edge sticky should go in there. Punch out some shapes (out of post it or similar), put them on your paper & run it through (shapes side DOWN), rub around edges with your bone folder & then peel backing off. Use small tweezers to pull off shapes, then use glitter/mica powder on the sticky parts - leaving uncolored shapes.
It has so many uses, it's my magic go-to machine!

I love using my Xyron 510 for vellum as the adhesive doesn't show through.

I have the Zyron 900, 510 and 150...I love them. I got the 510 at Goodwill in the electronics dept for $3.00 yippee!!! THAT price made up for the price of the cartridges...I gave the 510 to my DD so that she will leave my 900 alone, the only problem is that stuff is SO sticky that cleaning walls is a HUGE chore!

Ok, I never would have thought of this idea. I rarely use my zyron but now I have an order coming with glitter and I can't wait to try this.
