Hi ladies...
I'm SURE this has been asked before, but I am overwhelmed with the amount of information on these threads so I decided to take my chances and ask the question again...
I have a Cuttlebug, and I like it, but I have been thinking about making the switch to the Big Shot because of the long dies that are available. Does anyone know if I can use the longer dies on my Cuttlebug, and if so, what do I need to buy to adapt it? Can I use the long narrow plates that are made for the Big Shot on my Cuttlebug?
What dies can I NOT use on my Cuttlebug...is changing even necessary?
I'm not sure if the longer ones fit in a cuttlebug - I want to know as well.
Now, I don't know the cost of this, but Tim HOltz is coming out with a great new machine - and it takes all the dies I believe. you might check him out compared to the big Shot.
Although, I have the Big Shot as well
I am so wishing there were not so many cool tools!

You should be able to use the longer dies (they just squeak by width-wise) but you can't use the Sizzix long plates because they're too wide. You can shave the side down 1/8"-1/4" though.
The new Tim Holtz machine is electric, I believe. So you would need to be near a plug, plus if it stopped working you'd have a very expensive paperweight!
Cuttlebug did come out with extended plates recently. I would opt for those over the Bigshot ones due to the width issue. Seach on Google with : cuttlebug long plates

Yes the new Tim goody is electric
But isn't CB coming out with longer plates?
I've been kicking around the idea of trading up myself lately too.

Jackcharlie, thanks for bring this question up again. Even if it has been talked about before (and I am sure it has) there is always new answers as well as new product that I hear about. I will have to keep a check on the longer plates for the cuttle bug (I own a Big shot) as so far I have not found a need for the longer plates. Come to think of it I do have a Spellbinder border that is 12" long..........hmmm I may, just may need to think a little more serious about a cuttle bug, or just wait until I have more than 1 need for it!!!
For what its worth - I own a Cuttlebug and a Big Shot but find I am using the Big Shot more and more. It seems to be easier to use with the different types of Sizzex dies I have..... I was watching "Stamp TV" from CHA and saw that Spellbinders had a new die cut machine coming out which looks awesome and will handle their new "Grand" dies. It looks like an awesome machine too - too many new things - not enough money or time - LOL!
I think we'd all be terribly disappointed in you if you didn't. ;)
I know right? I haven't even really ordered from the new catty. I did have a WS the other day and three sweet customers racked up almost $300 themselves. LOL My wish list is actually longer than my to do list...that's saying something

Its so interesting to read what others think on any tool...
I am the exact opposite Heidi....I have both machines and use the CB way more....nearly all the time now in preference to the BS.
I have just acquired the long plates for the CB but haven't had a chance to try them out yet.
I am loving all the new dies coming on to the market...makes card making really really interesting and professional looking.
To the OP...It is going to come down to personal choice and resources already in your craftroom....Have fun with the decision.

Sewflake.....Don't downgrade to a Cuttlebug, that would make no sense! Purchase the extended cutting pads for the machine you currently have instead. If you purchase them in the store, they may be labled BIGkick, but those would be the same thing. Both machines are the same, just a different look.
Spellbinders are bringing out a new cutter - the Grand Calibur. It will take a full letter-size sheet! Grand Calibur - Spellbinders Paper Arts - Spellbinders
I haven't read any reviews, just saw it on their blog.
Now that I am interested in!

Thanks ladies! I think I'm going to order the extended pads for my Cuttle Bug and start from there.
Everyone is right though...as soon as you think you have one thing all figured out, someone comes along and creates a GIGANTIC die that everyone HAS to have...but unfortunately...those new and exciting dies are always just a little bit too big for your current machine so you have to upgrade AGAIN...UGGGHHH...
(Secretly...I am interested in the new Spellbinders though...I wonder how BIG they actually are??? )
I am SO interested in the Grand Calibur!!! Apparently the 'mouth' of the machine is 8 1/2inches wide and I think I saw somewhere that it's measurements were 15in x 8in x 10in, but I can't find it again now, so I could be wrong.
