Default stampin spots

Anyone use just the stampin spots instead of the large pads? Just curious. I was thinking of just investing in the spots instead of the large pads since the large pads won't fit in my storage that my husband built.

Other than back ground stamps I am pretty happy with my spots. I like to pounce ink onto my stamps and make sure the coverage is even and not in places I don't want it. Buy a box and try them out.

Niki,
I bought the stampin spots because I was not sure which colors of ink pads to invest in when I first started out stamping last year and I have been using mine ever since. So far they have not been drying out on me, but I was warned that they dry out way faster than the regular size ones. I'd say if you only have limited storage space, give them a try IMHO . I am very happy that I bought them and I will invest in the regular size ones that I use most.

I have the craft spots instead of the full size craft pads and I really like them. I agree with the other poster and you should buy a set to try them out. If you don't like them, then you only have one set instead of all 4. Good luck with your decision!

I use my spots more than my big sets - I keep mine in one of the tins that the punch and stamps came in from SU and i always have then right next to me. I use them alot for distressing the edges of things too since they are so small they are easier to use.

I do alot of scrapbooking away at crops and got the spots to use for that. I love the fact that I can take my case of spots and have all those options for colors when I want to ink edges or use my stamps. I love them. You won't regret having them. I good friend of mine stamps all the time and has only ever used the spots.

If I had it to do over again, I think I might have just gotten the spots instead of the big pads. I have all the craft colors in the spots and like them a lot. As scrapmo said, the only problem I could see with them is when you would use a background stamp.

spots are a great to get a variety of the colors with a smaller investment. If you find that you reach for a few colors often, maybe then you get the big pads...

I stamped for a year or more with just spots and they work great. They do dry out a little quicker but reinker is not a huge investment and can keep your spots going for a long, long time.

Ditto what everyone else has said! I love that they don't take up much space, the smaller size makes them easier than full-size pads to use for distressing, they travel easy, and they're good for direct-to-paper backgrounds like the one on this Christmas card. I bought mine during SAB 2004 and am just now needing to reink them.

The only down side I've found to them is that it takes a few minutes to fully ink up a background stamp.

I have all of the classic spots and two sets of the craft spots. The only big pads I use are wateproof black, craft white, versamark, and a cheapo brown for dtp distressing. I love my spots!

I've used spots, supplemented with markers, for a year. Do not miss big pads at all, especially since I use versamark almost exclusively for backgrounds.

I use colored spots exclusively- I have one inkpad I use- Palette Noir.

I have 5 large stampin up ink pads and I hate them- those colors don't get touched- in fact I bought blank spots and reinkers to finish the family (since I didn't want to buy the whole spot family and get duplicates, but didn't want the large pads either). They are a pain to open, they sag in the middle, and they take up too much space.

My spots are fabulous, ink everything well- even backgrounds, and are easy to store, and easy to take places with me.

I only have classic, but craft spots are on my list. I also have brilliance dewdrops that get used when my brilliance pads do not. (The only spots I don't use are my palette cubes- I find I don't use the palettte colors very much).

I have all of the sets both classic and craft and I use my spots 95% of the time. I like the fact that I can have all of the colors right next to me and they take up a lot less room when I travel with them.

Spots are the way to go if you want to have all the SU colors. I was trying to purchase all the big pads as I was ordering card stock but I gave up on that and went with the spots and I've been very happy since. I have quite a few of the large dye ink pads but I prefer to use my craft spots.

I love my spots too! I bought the whole set two and a half years ago and they still work just fine. None have dried out. I store them upside down, I was told this would help and it seems to have worked!

I bought the craft spots in the RR family to use for stamping titles in my scrapbooks. I like that they are small and portable and can go to crops with me!

I have the spots for my daughter, she's 4 so I was tired of sharing my big ink pads with her and worrying about her mixing the colors!

Now she has her own spots and can mix and match as she pleases!

What a great thread! I was wondering the same thing myself. I'm just getting started in SU and wanted to get paper and inks to coordinate. Could you use a brayer with the spots?

I have the spots and wouldn't trade them. Even large stamps are fine with them - I just pounce it over the stamp. This was my way of being able to have all the colors at what I consider a reasonable price. Plus my demo has a 6 month club where you spend $25 each month and one month you get the hostess benefits (I'm sure many demos do this). So I ordered one color family a month & 2 months some other items I wanted resulting in all the craft spots, a hostess set, and a little free $. Worked for me.

I started with the spots and then buy full pads of those that I used the most. It is nice to know that I always have the spots if there is a color match I need. I wish we could get a set of spots and markers for the new in color every year.

I too have all the spots in craft and the classic in the standard sized pad. It's a great way to have the colors you need without a hefty investment.

I also use the spots most of the time in addition to Palette Noir. I have all of them and as someone else suggested, always store them up-side down and have not had a problem with their drying out. Sure easier to store than the larger pads which I find I never use anymore.

I have a couple of big pads, but I'm a spot girl! I love the convenience and value. Mine are still quite juicy, and the reinkers are affordable when they need freshening up.

I bought all 4 families in spots. I did this in order to have all the colours. I love using them. I was told to store them upside down and I haven't had to reink them and it's been about 2 years. I'm not sure if I will buy the full pads of the colours I use most, I'd rather put the money into new stamps, paper or embellishments.

I also have all four sets of craft spots and have used them daily for months and I have not had to reink yet. I did purchase all the reinkers so I'll be ready when the time comes.

I just bought my first Brilliance dew drop in Pearlescent Beige and I will be buying ALL of them. They're awesome!

I love my spots! Even though I now have all the full-sized pads, I got the spots originally so I could have all the colors. I still use the spots a lot, though...and they are SO handy to take on the road.

Last year I spent a week with my sis who had to work a few of the days. Since I had a swap coming due, it was a snap to put ALL my inks, the papers and stamps into a small tote bag and have them with me. I've kept the spots in that bag ever since, sort of like a ready bag for emergency stamping trips, lol!

Another spot lover here!

I made my own spots with this year's 'In Colors' by buying Ink Dye Applicator cubes from Wellburn Gourds:

http://www.welburngourdfarm.com/

I think this is the link to the product. They're just like SU spots: http://www.welburngourdfarm.com/inde...ROD&ProdID=124

Thanks for the tip about using one of the SU tins to store the spots. I've been scratching my head over that, LOL.

I bought all the craft spots because I wanted all the colors to see which I liked most and because I wanted to emboss to match the card stock. I did buy the larger pads in colors I really like especially if I make large quanity of colors (like 100 for our Xmas cards). I don't like the spots to do backgrounds. For the In Colors and some other colors in classic, I ordered the spot size from welburngourdfarm.com and just ordered the ink refill from Stampin Up. They work great.

P.S. I ordered 6 extra for the next set of In Colors for the July 2008 catalog. I figure I may as order now because adding 6 more did not raise the shipping cost. If I wait till July to order more I'd have to pay for shipping again.

I'm sticking with my spots. I only have a few full size SU ink pads but I've noticed that some of them are a bit wavy in areas. They are not flat and smooth on the whole surface so when I'm inking a background stamp I have to twist and turn the pad in all directions to make sure the whole surface of the big stamp gets evenly inked. I've had my spots for two years now and am just starting to see that they need reinkers. I love getting the whole family of colors at once, too.
