I seem to see a lot of people talking about SU on here. I've never ordered from this catalogue. I have ordered from CTMH catalogue a few times.
Is there a big difference in the products?
This is all fairly new to me so I hope I'm not sounding foolish or I don't want to offend anyone.
I know the main difference is that Stampin' Up! sells ONLY wood mounted rubber stamps (they come unmounted and you mount them yourself when you get them) and CTMH sells acrylic stamps. That's the main difference that I know of. They sell similar products (stamp themes, accessories) and have demonstrators that you go through to order. You can also order online through SU! demonstrator websites (see mine in my signature). I'm not sure about CTMH. I'm an SU! demo, so I don't know much else about CTMH.

I started with CTMH (they still had wood back then) and switched to SU. For me I fell in love with the stamp images and I preferred the SU cardstock. I know many people really get started with one company and then branch out. To this day I still use mainly SU for my inks and cardstock I like that it all matches and is a nice quality. I don't know if it is still true, but my main complant with CTMH cs was the white core, I didn't like the way it looked in my projects. I still have some I use now and again if I am looking for that feature but hardly use it at all. There was also a quality that I can't explain that I liked about SU but was missing in the CTMH version.
It seems that people love what they love. (not to say they may not change there mind at a later date ;) ) If you are happy, great. If you are happy but curious find a SU demo near you that would like to invite you to a 10-10-10 or other time stamp camp. It will give you a chance to see and work with some of the materials and you can decide for yourself.
In addition to the wood vs clear mount differences, I think that there is also a bit of a difference in the "styles" of the images offered.
Why not find out for yourself by viewing the catalog online at www.stampinup.com Next week, on July 1, the new SU catalog will go live online with lots more great images.
I know that both companies have stamps that cross over, but I would say that CTMH is the more "scrapbook" focused of the two. To me, more of their stamps just seem to lend themselves better to scrapbooking, or maybe it's just their sentiments... Then again, maybe it's just me! ;)
Their cardstock is also not quite as heavy as SU!'s...

Does CTMH cardstock have a white core? I don't know because I've never seen any. I prefer the color all the way through the cardstock like SU, but didn't know about CTMH.
While I like their product for my scrapbooking, I do not care for it with my cards. The cardstock feels lighter and I don't know how I would like it as a card base. For layering, it would be fine...but the white core would bug me on certain projects!
Both companies have a core set of colors that all coordinate...pattern papers, cardstock, ribbon...but CTMH is pretty limited on how you can buy 8 1/ x 11 cardstock...only comes in a combo pack. Again, I think this is reflective of my percevied focus of it being more scrapbooking oriented.
I have been happy with the products with both companies quality-wise, but prefer SU for my cardmaking needs.
Thanks for all the responses.
I started scrapbooking 1st, now I've moved on to cards. I think I'll check out SU. It seems like there's always something more I want.
