Default OK, You have talked me into getting a Xyron...

...now please tell me which one should I get and why???

I was told that I "needed" one to attach a vellum piece onto dark cardstock when the glues/adhesives showed through. Unfortunately I won't be anywhere near a Joanns this weekend to use the 50% coupon, but AC Moore has all xyron machines on sales this weel 40% off, so thought I would venture over there. But I do need to know what one to buy.

Thanks for all your enabling and help!!!

Oh my word, now I am going to want one too! I saw some new fangled xyron at Archivers, it seems to be almost like a cricut, spits out shapes and things and also makes them sticky, is that it?
Oh my, not again!!! Please tell me more! ;)

I have the 510 for little stuff, and the 1200 because I happened to see it at a QVC outlet store and temporarily lost my mind. The 1200 is great, except I never use it because I always feel like the stuff I need to do isn't worth pulling out the beast. That, and I can't find refills at the regular craft stores (although I did just find them on JoAnn.com).

If I had it to do over again, I'd get the 900 for the big stuff, and keep the 510 (or 500) for the little stuff.

I decided to get the 900. If you do the calculations for $/sq. ft. of adhesive for the 500, 510, and 900 the cost for the 900 is half of the other to.

Xyron 500 Xyron 510 Xyron 900
$2.00/sf $2.40/sf $1.10/sf

This only is an accurate comparison if you have similar amounts of waste with each model. If you xyron several smaller things at once through the 900 that shouldn't be much of an issue. HTH

I started out with the X which worked great for little die cuts and letters from my sizzix sidekick, but I went out and got the 510 for bigger things...I love it! It's great to be able to get the different kinds of cartridges although with all of the xyrons there unfortunately is quite a bit of waste. Happy shopping!!

I have the 150 (x) model. I use it for ribbon and die cuts. I can't stand that yoou waste about a 1/2 to 1 inch of tape with every pull!!! Other than that I love It. I'm considering the 250 for Christmas.

I have the 510 and I really like it but I rarely ever use it. I almost thought about selling it. I've got 3 different cartridges for it too. I thought it was a godsend, but I cant seem to force myself to use it because I too dont like that you waste almost an inch every time you use it. With the amount of things that I make I would go thru so many rolls of the refills.

If I was not so frugal (being a SAHM I tend to try to pinch pennies for things that really do matter - like monthly SU parties! ) I'd probably use it more..

They put the "sticky" on the back of your papers, letters etc... I see on the Carol Duvall show a lot of her guests must of used it because they just "peel off" the backing to adhere what they are working on.
My cartridges also have laminate, magnet & temp. adhesives.

I have the small one, the X-150. It's great for me because I use it mostly for card making. If I ever need a larger one, when I venture more into the scrapbooking, I'll move up in size a bit. So I guess it depends on what you will be using it for. Smaller items for cards, or larger items for scrapbooking. Think about what you will need it for the most, then go from there. Karen.

I have a 510 model. It's terrific for adhearing paper to metal lunchbox tins, wooden clipboards... anything where you really want to be sure the whole piece of paper sticks well - not just the edges - no bubbles underneath.

Michaels frequently has the cartridges 40% off... the only time I buy them. I think they're 40% this week.

Both Michael's and JoAnn's have their Xyron refills 40% off this week around here, but I found out after I'd bought them at Michael's that the base price at JoAnn's is lower and would've been a better deal - if you have both stores in your area check the prices before you stock up.

Default Get them all!

I've got the X, my daughter has the 510 and I just got the 900. We did a family cookbook for Christmas gifts and stamped the covers with the chef set (Viola), then used the laminated cartridge and my Rubi-coil. Took the insides to Staples to have copies made. They turned out great and look like we purchased them from the store. Can't wait to give them out at Christmas. I think you need a variety...tis the season after all.

just save youeself the trouble now and get all 3! the 150, 510, and 900. hehe
I had the 150, but it wasn't big enough for some things I wanted to do. so I get the 510. love it! but sometimes I just want to be able to put a whole sheet through for various reasons, so I finally begged santa for the 900! they're all so perfect for different reasons. though if you're going for efficiency I'd really sugguest the 900 and the 150. I love my 150. it's perfect for little things that would just create a lot of waste on a larger machine. but if I'm doing something on my 510 I can see that it would still be efficient to just do 2(or more) things at a time on the 900.

I have the X, 510, and 900. I don't use the 900 much at all (ok, practically never). I really like the X, but it's just a little too small. I haven't seen the 250 - is it 2 1/2 inches? If so, that would be perfect, and that's what I would recommend.
