I LOVE eyelets- more than brads. I loved them when I had to bang away. (I actually got one of those mini craft hammers, and hated it, so I stuck with the large one) but I love them more now that I have a crop o dile.
If you hate yours, B/S/T them away to get something you really like
I like both alot. And I like to do my eyelets the old fashion way--setter and hammer. Especially if I need to get some frustration out!!
Ditto! I also set eyelets the old fashioned way, and have a Stampin' Up tool set. The plastic guide with all the holes help me set eyelets evenly. One punch and one slam, and it's set!
I have every imaginable eyelet, flowers, easter eggs, snowflakes, xmas trees, candy canes, little cars, etc... I really mean EVERY b/c every convention I'd go to, I'd get in line at one of those fill a cup booths and stock up.
And you know, I hate eyelets. I can't use the spring loaded thing, it hurts my carpal tunnel. I use the hammer/setter and I can get them to work, but .... a brad is so much easier. Hate'em!
Oh, and another thing, NO ONE uses those little cute eyelets....when was the last time you saw a card in the gallery using a christmas tree eyelet? Never! lol, so what was I thinking?

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
I <3 the crop-a-dial. My only problem now is that I have to remember that eyelets are a lot easier to set now so I can use them whenever. I happen to really like brads as well but they seem to stick out more. I worry about them going through the mail a bit more. Maybe I'm just paranoid. btw don't buy making memories brads I had a ton in a package that I bought where the two little prongs were stuck together permanantly. Made me pretty irritable.
I have to say that I TOTALLY agree with the Crop-A-Dile fans. I had a TON of Making Memories eyelets and they were a PAIN. I had them sitting there for over a year, unused. I broke down with a Michael's coupon ($17 with the coupon) and got a COD. OH MY GOSH. That thing is AWESOME. Now eyelets are back in swing in my craft area! You should get one, then throw away all the other eyelet setters you own!
Ditto on what everyone has said about the Cropadial....
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and setting eyelets the "old fashioned way" (ie: setter and hammer) really hurts. Plus, I tend to stamp into the wee hours of the night, and it's disrupting to the rest of the household.
My Grandma actually turned me on to the Cropadial, as she has arthritis in her hands also, and has a hard time with the regular setter. It's easy peasy. Punches like a breeze, and to set it, I just take one hand and use leverage and push the other handle against the table. It's a piece of cake.
Plus, it goes through cardboard/chipboard, metal, leather... you name it, with equal ease as paper.
The ONLY drawback is that it isn't an anywhere setter, so for scrapbooking sometimes if you want an eyelet in the middle of the page, you have to use the old style setter and hammer.
Spend the $25 and go for it!

I learned a little trick today......but I think it only works with SU eyelets, because they are aluminum (or something like that, basically, they are softer).
Anyways, you use the 1/8 whole punch to make a hole.......insert the eyelet, and use the 1/16 punch to set it from the back!! So easy!!
I set my eyelets this way and love it. I hate the noise that comes with using a hammer and I would rather spend my $$ on more stamps!

FYI -- I bought my Cropadile at Hobby Lobby with their 40% off coupon.. got it for $14.99 (originally $24.99... about $3 cheaper full price than Michael's). Someone else here had mentioned on another post about Hobby Lobby having it cheaper. I almost had bought it at M.'s and glad to find out I could get it cheaper.
This Cropadile sounds like something I could use. I don't like using the hammer on my work table, but just don't feel like going down to DH workshop to set those little buggers. I was using brads alot more, but maybe I can do eyelets quietly.
I love eyelets, but just the basic ones. I find I don't use the cute ones like flowers and hearts. I'm old fashioned when setting and love smacking them with a hammer. I use a real hammer (well a girly sized one according to DH), the SU kit and mat, and whack. I remember one of the first phone calls I had after my first date with DH and I was working on my Christmas cards. I put on my hands free set and warned him as I started setting them. He thought it was funny and now that we are married, I have my own craft room to bang away in.
I, too, was eyelet challenged. They didn't flatten, or they smooshed out of shape. I got a Crop a Dile yesterday at Michaels with my 50% off coupon! I get to play with it today! Yay!
Good old eyelets - now that's one way to get something to STAY on a card, even in the high humidity we have here in Florida! And you have that handy hole to weave fiber or ribbon or lash on a charm or bead. Use the old to adhere the new!
I love my eyelets but I cant get them to set correctly either. And I dont really have a designated "craft" room or spot me and my husband have our crafts ( scrapbooking; stamping; and model cars ) spread out all over our townhouse. I kept losing my setters and hole punches. I think imgoing to go get me a crop-o-dile asap!!!!
I have lots of stars and hearts and stuff like that ive never even used maybeill find something to do with them now.

Love eyelets. The brads are a pain. I love the look, but can never pry them apart without wrinkling whatever I am working on, or they stick me under the finger nail. I love to hammer the eyelets in (relieves the aggression) and the only problem I have found is getting them straight. Need to get the SU thingy? Since I only do daytime stamping it works for me. I have so many eyelets and don't use them enough, but to invest in a cropadial, when I spent a lot to get the whole kit that includes 3 different size setters, tweezers, piercing tool, hammer and the whole enchilada is hard for me. There are so many OTHER things I can buy!!!!!

I felt the same way until I bought my crop-o-dile. It is wonderful and I have regained my use of eyelets! It's one of the best investments I made recently (with a 40% off coupon at Michaels). It sets them beautifuly and quietly! Now I'm using eyelets a lot.
Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! I now find myself setting eyelets into everything. That tool is so cool! Try setting eyelets into ribbon with it - it takes a bit of finesse and practice, but it looks fabulous!
Got my friend to save the Michael's coupon... went and bought the Crop-a-dile eyelet setter... and then found out that the problem of irregular eyelet setting (broken front piece, lumpy back part) wasn't my hammering style but those darn CHEAP eyelets from Oriental Trading Co! ARrrgghh... I ruined quite a few pieces of paper trying them out!
The solution I found for the cheapies is to use the Memory Makers "flowered eyelet setter". It does indeed make even the most difficult eyelets behave and NOT ruin yet another card!
I do have to say, though I LOVE the quiet and easiness of the Crop-a-dile. I intend on only getting SU eyelets or good eyelets...................

Any suggestions on whose eyelets are good?:???:
So, so, so true! I bought some Jo-Ann eyelets for my sister's 50 baby announcements and I actually dented the flower shape one I had I was pounding on it so much. DH finally said go and buy the thing, meaning the crop-a-dile and off I ran to Michael's. I'm disappointed with the backs, but for making 50 announcements, and two per each one, it saved me immensely. I can also use it for late night and insomnia stamping! Like you, I need to find some good eyelets too.
Joan, I have to know, did you get the Cropodile? I looked at it with my 40% off coupon & ended up going to Michael's w/ the 50% off & getting the spring loaded one from Making Memories. I've only practiced with it, not made real cards. I love the look of eyelets, but I"m with you on not liking to set them. I"ve also got the Silent Setter, & it was okay with soft eyelets, but not with my cheaper ones (which is mostly what i have).
I would love to hear your input on the Cropodile since you are currently an eyelet hater! LOL!
I love them all... snaps, eyelets, and brads... They all have a purpose like someone else said comparing apples to oranges. I admit, the Crop-a-dile has made using them SO MUCH EASIER!!!
I just spent about 4 hours, sorting my case of eyelets that dropped about a month ago... I was looking for a particular eyelet last night and couldn't find it because they were still all mixed up... so I bit the bullet and sat down and sorted... so glad I did... now if I drop it again... I'll CRY! lol

Yep, I've been eyelet challenged for years. But when another demo showed me this trick, I'm an eyelet convert!

I'm so sorry! I spent 2 hours doing the same once... but... Check this out! I couldn't deal with the worry of opening my eyelet storage box and realizing that one false move... and bam eyelets everywhere (again):( ! So I wanted a case that had separate little doors for each little compartment...
SO- I bought some WEEKLY VITAMIN/PILL BOXES at my local Dollar Store and at my local drug store and have moved all my eyelets and brads into these containers. One type has 7 sections for one week of vitamins and each little section is about 1.5 inches big. The other has 2 weeks (14 doors/sections) and has a smaller compartment. I use a sharpie pen in a color that is close to the eyelet/brad color and label them with a picture of the following: Circle (for eyelets), Big Dot (big brads), Little Dot (little brads). Okay, the M T W Th F S S on the top is somewhat annoying- but for those I pasted a label on top and then labeled it. Works like a charm!:-D
Hope this inspires!

That is why I have each type and color in its own separate tiny ziploc baggie in the organizer box. If it isn't securely closed and gets dumped, I only have to pick up lots of baggies and sort them by color, not hundreds of eyelets, brads, etc. So much easier. Also, if I am going to use a certain color, that's all I need to remove from the box and carry just that baggie to the work table or put in my tote. I've been very happy with this "system."
