I have a big bottle of mineral spirits from WM and I HATE dragging it out each time I want to do this technique. I currently pour it into the lid, which gets all over the place. I am looking for a storage solution. One in which I can just open and use..is there such a thing? How do you house your gamsol spirits when you are using them?? or not?? thanks
I got small containers from dick blick. If I remember correctly they were designed for paints so they close tightly. They are small, maybe 2 inches high. They fit in my shallow drawers which are the same size as two of the SU button/brad containers stacked (height not width). Anyway, got them 10 in a pack and I pour a little gamsol in there and use my circle punch to punch out labels for the top and run it through my xyron. I used the extras for little buttons or brads that are non su that I've collected.
I keep the big bottle in my garage and just refill out there as needed.
I bought a big (32 oz) can of odorless mineral spirits at Ace Hardware. I lost a couple of stumps dropping them into the can and had to come up with something else.
One afternoon I was getting my nails done and noticed the manicurist had a little pump bottle for the nailpolish remover. The way it worked was that she could pump up some remover onto a cotton pad using only the pads of her fingers. That way she didn't ruin her own nailpolish taking off her client's.
I found mine at Sally Beauty Supply and it has been terrific! A few pumps of the top and there is a little puddle of OMS on the top. No more waste, no more lost stumps!

That's what I use too. It's a glass bottle with a metal top that has a flip-top lid to cover the pump. I really like it. No more waste (not like OMS is that expensive, but still!) and SUPER easy to use this way!
I purchased a plastic container at Michael's that was in the same aisle (I think) as the oil paints. I put a sponge in it and add just enough to damped my stumps. All this is courtesy of Anna Wight!
How funny...I just got the double wall (not REALLY sure why this is necessary, but it was suggested to me) plastic container at M's today! It was $1.79 and I already had a clean sponge at home so I cut 2 for the depth that I wanted. Already tried it out, love how it works.
I have a small heavy glass jar that had some sort of Avon cream in it. I put in one of those cotton pads and poured in just enough OMS to get it really soppy. I press the tip of my stump against it till it soaks up enough to use. This way I can see into the jar and I don't have the big bottle open and evaporating or in a position to be knocked over and spilled.
I have an artist container(plastic)...you can find them at Michaels in the artist section and the sponge that fits in the bottom. I buy Gamsol by the quart at Dick Blick.
I bought my plastic containers at Michaels in the art dept. It's a plastic container with a sponge on the top. It work really well when you are using Gamsol.
