Default hot knife recommendations

Can you recommend a good hot knife please? I was going to get mine through Michael's. Also, what should I place under the hot knife as I am cutting. The girl doesn't think that they have a mat or anything.

Thanks.

I bought the one at Michaels. It is the light green colored handle one - "made for women" or something like that. Under it, I just use a tempered glass cutting board that I bought at KMart for like $10 or something like that. One suggestion though, my friend has a smooth surface tempered glass cutting board and I have a textured (kinda bubbled) one. I would totally get the smooth one if I could go back. Your EZ Mount will cling to it while you cut. With my bubbly one, I have to hold the stamp down with one finger otherwise it scoots around the board since it can't cling to the bubbly texture ... I hope that made sense!

Do you cut the rubber with a hot knife too or just the backing? If you cut the rubber, do you cut the rubber and backing at the same time or separate?

Thanks!

I have the hot knife from Michaels too. It was on sale at the time for I think $12. I have the same glass on my table too but I also liked 1 of these tutorials below (the video one) where she's just holding it and cutting it and I found that to be easier for me.

I've only used it for my Bella stamps and they are already cut so I mount them on EZ Mount and then it's that foam that I'm cutting with the knife. Love it!!!!

You just cut the EZ Mount foam with the hot knife. The knife isn't quite hot enough to cut the rubber.

This is great timing for me; I just ordered a hot knife from Sunday International two days ago! I also ordered the glass mat...off to watch the tutorial.
