has anyone tried other methods of setting eyelets...
Such as the Provo Silent Setter, Clikit, or the MM instant setter?? I have the basic eyelet setter-- with all the noise that goes along with it. lol I am looking for a better alternative, especially for the arthritcally challenged who loves to stamp at night after the kiddies are in bed. Not to mention something that doesn't scare my 120lb dog..
LOL!! I dont have the kiddies to worry about, but I do have an 80 lb dog that freaks out and hides when I used my old fashioned noisy eyelet setter. I bought the MM one and I love it. I dont know how it would work for your arthritic hands though, if you have the ability to hold it and push down it will work for you. I have seen one (I wish I could remember which one, maybe Provo Craft??) that has more of a flat surface on the top to push down with and not have to wrap your fingers around the handle.
Funny you asked this! I just got the Provocraft eyelet setter the other day! A fellow SCS'er from Okinawa, Tashauna F. brought it over and demo'ed it. Wow! I was so impressed I had to run and get one. I love it! It doesn't work too great with super hard eyelets like brass, but works great for me on all the others. And it truly is silent! It's like holding an oval shaped door knob in your hand and you just roll it around in a circle, and voila! Eyelet is set! No pounding whatsoever.
I just shared with another friend & SCS'er and she had to run out and get one too and she's loving it as well.
I can't comment on the other styles out there because I have never held them out or seen them demo'ed. I'm sure others can share their experiences.

I have the silent setter too and it's nice. It doesn't do a good job on the really hard metal eyeletts like the Joann's brand but does really well on softer ones like SU sells. I think they're about $24 but doable with a coupon.
Went a gathering SU! demos and learned that the 1/16" and the 1/8" hand held hole punches in the catty (made by Fiskars) can be used to set SU! eyelets. 1/8" to make the hole and 1/16" to set the eyelet. We only used the round ones, but I imagine it will work for the shaped eyelets.
Of course, this won't work if you want an eyelet in the middle of a scrapbook page...
OK tidbits what is it?????? It looks like the oldrivet setter for fabric, Is that kind of what the idea is??? I think you were teasing all of us by showing the picture and not giving us any more details......am I right;-)

I guess a little more info would help! LOL It is actually a rivet setter too. I have the old hammer set and finally bit the bullet to get this machine! SO much easier to use in the long run. It is a HomePro LR (long reach) tool.
I have the Silent Setter too. It is completely silent which I love (I have two little ones). However, it requires some "umph" when setting harder eyelets. Prior to falling in love with SU eyelets, I had purchased my share of MM ones. I am using them up now, but they are harder. The silent setter requires you to push down and twist at the same time. I think if you were just using SU eyelets, it would be okay with your arthritis. However, if you are primarily using other brands, I wouldn't recommend it. I would like to try out the MM one too to see if I like it better. My Michaels just started carrying it and I could use my coupon.
I am looking at the silent setter and was wondering how it does the eyelets on the back. Are they rolled or split? And are they smooth enough not to catch on anything when done. Some of the eyelets that are split when set are a bit rough.
Thanks for any help.

Does the Provo Craft setter also punch a 'silent hole'? Or is it just the setting of the eyelet that is silent?
The silent setter splits the back of the eyelet into four, and they would catch on things the way I do them. The silent setter also punches the hole quietly. The noisiest part of the process is when I dig out my eyelets from their storage container.
I got the Click-It. Like it but doesn't work as well as I'd like on the Making Memories eyelets that I still have an abundance of. So, I got the Provo Silent Setter. Didn't like this one so I took it back. Too hard to use on the MM eyelets. Then, Making Memories came out with their own instant setter. I figured it has to set their own eyelets well so I got it. I use that pretty exclusively. Sets the MM eyelets the best, I think. Once I use those up, I'll start getting SU eyelets or Karen Foster eyelets so I can go back to using the Click-It. None but the Provo Silent Setter are silent, though.
