Default Glue Ink Pad Questions

I am new to posting things, so bear with me! I would like some info about "glue" ink pads. I have one from several years ago, and I am trying to use it with gold leaf but having no success. Any advice is helpful!

Hi, welcome to SCS!

I'm afraid I've never heard anybody say a good word about glue ink pads so if you're looking for tips on getting better performance out of the pad I can't think of anything to suggest that would help. I've used "Stamp and Bond" powder (made by Stampendous) with stuff like metal leaf and glitter and that works well. There are other brands out there (I think the SU! one is called "Heat and Stick") but I don't have experience of those.

The other thing you could try (do a little test piece on scrap) is to use a clear embossing powder and rub your gold leaf on while it's still warm from the heat gun. I suspect the surface has enough tackiness before it hardens completely that it will grab your leaf. I haven't tried though, just a theory!

HTH!

I recently bought an 'Essential Glue Pad' by Tsukineko as recommended by my local craft shop for a specific project. I haven't tried it yet so am not speaking from my own experience, but they said to apply a little of the supplied glue to one corner of the pad and dab that where I need it (I want to apply gold leaf over stencil paste). Next time I use it I should apply fresh glue.

I hope that helps.

I've also purchased the Essential Glue Pad by Tsukineko. You do need to apply the glue each time and spread it out over the pad so you have a glue surface. You can use it with a rubber stamp. My only issue is cleaning the rubber stamp. You must do it IMMEDIATELY after stamping. I've used the Stazon stamp cleaner but still find it has a sticky surface to the stamp. Plain soap and water don't work at all. Yes, the glue does work for adhereing glitter, gold leaf, flocking, etc. I just don't like not being able to clean it properly off a stamp.
