Yesterday I was watercoloring with some of my Distress markers. I usually use the brush end of the marker but this time I wanted to use the fine tip. When I took the cover off I found out there was nothing there! I am sure I probably never tried to use this end of this marker before. I don't really know what to do about the situation. I wonder if the marker will dry out faster than it should since this end is open. I am not sure, but it is most likely the marker came from Archiver's so I am out of luck returning the marker. Have you ever had a marker like this? Any suggestions?
Do you store your markers on their side? If they were standing up, laying them down should help. The Ranger Ink Refresher will help getting the ink to flow.
Yes, my set came with one leaky marker and two dried-out markers. Ranger replaced all three, no hassle. They have excellent customer service. Call them.
My set was new. But your marker sounds like it was clearly defective from the get-go, so call them and see what they say. I'll bet they replace it.

Thanks for the information! Ranger replaced an ink pad for me one time, but it was still wrapped in the cellophane package, so I didn't question contacting them. The marker has always been stored on it's side and surprisingly works well, but I think I will contact Ranger and see what they say. Thanks again for the advise.

That must have been 'distressing' (I know, I know, GROAN) - couldn't resist ;)
On a serious note, Ranger has outstanding customer service - I'm sure they'll take care of you if you contact them.
I had some 'perfect medium' pads that were at least 5 years old and the foam crumbled and they replaced every one 100% free. I had contacted them for the sole purpose of finding out what would cause that to happen never expecting them to replace such old ink pads. Ranger ROCKS

I'm glad I read this. When I bought the entire set of the markers, the fine tip on the black one wouldn't work at all.. nothing came out. I don't use the fine tips much, but just happened to want to use it that day. I should give them a call. thanks for the info. Pam

I contacted Ranger and they have asked for pictures of my markers. I plan to get a picture and send it to them this weekend. They were quick to respond to my email. I'll let you know how it all turns out.
Yes, that's what they asked me to do also. I guess they just want to be sure you actually own the markers without you having to send them back to them. After I sent the picture, they sent me new ones.

I had a problem back last year with some DI Re-inkers. I bought a whole bunch, and hadn't opened them all. I found one was all thick and gloopy when I did, so checked the rest. Turned out I had two like it, no idea who I'd bought them off, as I went to a craft show, and bought from lots of different people. Sent Ranger an e-mail with a picture, a few days later, two replacements turned up in the post, from their UK supplier. A lot of companys could learn from Rangers Customer Service.
By the way, I remember when Tim first launched these pens, he said it didn't matter how they were stored, flat or upright. When I bought the set of Seasonal colours last year, the tub had a label on the side saying to store them horizontal, so they must have had issues.
Tim made a video about a year after Distress Markers came out on the market. He talked about many different ways to use the markers, and how to combine them with other Distress products. At that time he said that they had worked with the markers and had learned that it did not hurt them to be stored in an upright fashion, but that storing them horizontally kept the ink evenly distributed in the marker and then ready for use at each end. Not long after that video the tubes of markers started showing up with the sticker instructing to store the markers horizontally.
Thanks for that link, Vic. I didn't know you could pull out the brush and flip it around if it got smashed up or worn! Good to know!
