The are useful for the type of scrapbooking I did in the very begining - where you cut the subject out of the background of the photo and then mat it with colored card stock tracing the shape of the cut out picture. Now nobody seems to scrap like that and I have seen threads where people REALLY laugh at their first attempts to make pages like this!
Have you anguished so much about not having the right size envelope that it has kept you up nights? Ever? Do you think your life would be perfect if your envelopes matched your cards instead of being plain white or all-purpose clear? (A reminder here: people generally toss the envelope away when they get a card! LOL!).
If your life has been generally satisfactory without these two gizmos, I'm willing to bet that it will continue on in the same happy way without them.
Don't shift into the panic gear - just because something is retiring, doesn't mean it is so fantastic that you MUST have one because forever without it is a long long time. There's always ebay or maybe they will invent something so much better that you will be kicking yourself for buying it in the first place! Or maybe someone in your group can lend it to you!
Save your money - July 1 is just a few days away!

wise words valeriecathleen....i wasn't too terribly panicked about the envies...i just thought oo would that be a fun thing to have....the one i was considering more so was the layer ease...my life has been rather complete w/o it but you can never have too many gadgets right?

Perfect Layers is not in the big catalog. But it has been in every catalog since the Holiday 2005 Mini and that is going to be in the new catalog. I wouldn't waste your money on it and get perfect layers much easier to use. The envelopes are retiring but only because they are switching vendors, so your safe on that one.
FYI, Layer Ease for curves/ Perfect Layers for lines
It seems like the layer ease disc set (where you use a pencil in the center hole to mark a cutting line while rolling the disc against the smaller paper's edge) is designed for circles, ovals, and wavy lines, whereas the perfect layers set is for straight lines. You can do straight lines with the layer ease disc, but will have to slightly reposition it at the corners.
Both tools should produce a precise layer if properly used, so if other layering techniques aren't satisfactory to you, they're worth a try. The discs may take some practice. though.
I have the Layer Ease and rarely use it - I find that it is so much easier to create my circles/ovals etc in layers using the Coluzzle, punches or my Creative Memories cutting system. I always have trouble with it popping up leaving pencil marks all over my project - then you still need to cut it out using your scissors. I do think there are a lot of other things out there that are a lot easier to use!
well thanks ladies for the info...i always like to 'pre shop' before i go to our stamp meetings...i don't end up over spending this way....any how i think i'll skip the layer ease...as my bf's mom has all the cm cutting system and i'll contemplate the templates....any suggestions on which set to get should i decide i 'need' one? versatility etc?....ok its time for bed for me now!

Thanks for asking that question Girl4. I had put a question mark beside it and was going to ask the very same thing...for the very same reason LOL! I have just saved myself a few extra dollars that will be better spent on ribbon I think!

Well it depends on what you would use it for. I like using my layer-ease for making larger size tags and borders around tags from the tag punch. I use it for matting as well since I don't have the other product. It works for me.

I give a HUGE thumbs up to both envelope templates! I have used these templates to create the "envelopement" cards in my gallery - following are some examples: cardinal cardinal closed natural beauty
So you see IMO I do believe you will not regret owning both of the envelope templates
Just an FYI you can get the Layer Ease elswhere too, so if you want it later you will still be able to find it, I believe I have seen one made by Cutter Bee.

I was going to say the same thing. I purchased one long b4 su came out with it. I've liked it when I've used it, but haven't used it a whole lot.
ok this is good to hear girls...i'm still contemplating templates as i only have the budget to get one of the sets (thankyou overtime!) any great suggestions?..i was kinda leaning towards the one that has the scalloped top flap in it....
