I read a lot of information on both of them. I decided to go with the Big Shot because to me, it is just made a lot better. It is a little heavier than the Cuttlebug, but I want to do embossing, die cutting...etc. so for the money I felt like it was the best deal.

I have not been disappointed.

I ♥ my Big Shot!!!

I keep my crafting stuff in a spare bedroom and cart things back and forth to a table in the living room where I sit and make cards.

So I like that the Cuttlebug is small and portable. It even has a cute little handle on the top to lift it up on my table. I store it and all my embossing folders in a sturdy bankers file box.

I've never used a Big Shot, but I'm happy with the results I get with my CB, both die cutting and embossing. I've had mine for a couple of years and it still works beautifully.

Another vote for the Big Shot. I bought mine when it first came out, so that's years ago, and it still works great. Yes, it does take space, but it's sturdy and has lasted me so long. It accepts all dies as well

I've had both the cuttlebug and the big shot and prefer the big shot. Even though my space is small, i just feel the big shot is sturdier. Check your local craigslist. I got mine brand new for $40 there.

I would vote for the Big Shot. I have both and and I rarely use the CB. On the other hand I use the Big Shot a lot. I think the Big Shot is much better quality and more versatile.

Love my Big Shot! I had the cuttlebug but got rid of it about three years ago. It just feels more sturdy to me.

I am in the same boat. I dont have either one. I have been asking around to all my cardmaking friends, the big shot is the clear winner.

Hmmmmm .... It's a question worth considering for sure.
I have a C'Bug, and borrowed my DD's Big Shot. I adore my C'bug ... but the stronger point for me is that the Big Shot accepts the full-size Sizzix dies, such as the Tim Holtz Alterations dies, and all other brands as well.

So, if you're only interested in embossing folders and the thin die cuts, such as those by C'Bug, Sizzlets, and Spellbinders, the C'bug will meet your needs.

On the other hand, if you envision yourself adding the larger dies to your crafty collection, go for the Big Shot. It handles all of the above plus the full-size dies as well. ;)

This explains it well. I just bought a used cuttlebug because I'm more interested in embossing than die cutting.

Does anyone have a list of which types of dies don't work with the cuttlebug?

I put the Tim Holtz alterations dies through my Cuttlebug with no problems, you just put the die on the machine platform, paper and two B plates and away you go.
I haven't tried a big shot but I love my cuttlebug, it's small and portable and easy for my nine year old to use too.

It is incorrect to say that the Big Shot/Big Kick can handle larger dies than the Cuttlebug.

The CB can handle every die, embossing folder, and embossing plate that the BS/BK can handle. Even the BigzXL DIES fit through the CB, though the Sizzix Extended Cutting Pads are a tad too wide. People used to trim/sand them to fit BUT THAT IS NO LONGER NECESSARY.

Last summer, Provo Craft released Extended Cutting Plates for the Cuttlebug, as well as some extended products to use in the CB. It's now very easy to use the Sizzix BigzXL dies in a CB without fiddling with trimming/sanding the Sizzix cutting pads. Just buy the CB Extended Cutting Plates. (The Sizzix Extended Cutting Pads also cost extra; they do not come with the BS/BK.)

So, while I prefer the Big Kick, it's wrong to say that it (and the Big Shot) can accommodate larger dies than the Cuttlebug. The DIES were never the problem, it was the Sizzix Cutting Pads that were a tad too wide for the CB. It was rather easy to work around that, but now even work-arounds aren't necessary. Just get the proper (CB) extended cutting plates and all's good.

I stand corrected! (Yes .. I did just now try it! hahaha)
Now I can happily return DD's Big Shot without buying one for me! ;)

Default I like both equally....

but the BS does a better job and cutting out dies AND you can cut multiple papers at the same time. That is great if you are mass producing.

I own both and wouldn't give either of them up. I only make cards, so I don't know if that is a factor.

HTH.

Hmmmm ...
I know that I can cut chipboard, grungeboard, and fabric with the Big Shot plus Sizzix dies. Guess I'll want to try those on my C'bug first. ;)
