Default Copics!! I finally caved!!

I kept telling myself that I wasn't going to give in...LOL. Being in Canada, it's easy to just not order any online...but I'm currently spending Easter in the US with my sister and yesterday I was in Hobby Lobby...well...

First of all, I wish there was a Hobby Lobby in Canada! Wow-that's a great store!!

Second, there they were, staring me in the face and I just couldn't resist!! I only bought 14 to start-colors that I know I'd use a lot. And I'll go from there! I'm sure I'll be adding more to my collection. Now I'm wishing I'd brought my Bella's with me so I could play with my new toy!! Something to look forward to when I get home.

I have a few questions: Do I need to use any specific paper with Copics? Inks for stamping my images?

Thanks in advance! PS Thansk to all the great enablers on SCS!! Love ya all!

Yes you do. Ellen Hutson did extensive research on them and has great information on her blog...

http://www.ellenhutson.typepad.com/

Lisa Silver did a great tutorial on Copic coloring here...
http://forums.cornishheritagefarms.c...opic.php?t=381

And Debbie Olsen here...
http://debbiedesigns.typepad.com/mus...ves-a-hoo.html

Hope this helps!

BTW...I'm in Ontario too and always order them from Ellen. If you decide you need more...and you probably will ;) she is a great source.

Julia, Thanks for the links to the paper information in their blogs.

I just bought the SU close match set and now need to learn to use them!

You will enjoy your new splurge...I live in Ontario too and another option is GinaK's copic marker club. To get a set, you get 6 markers/month for 6 months for $25 (shipping included), and no duty!!!

Thanks so much everyone! I will be making yet another trip to Walmart before my trip is done to stock up on Georgia Pacific! Can I also use the PTI White CS?

Where can I get the Palette Noir Inks? Does anyone know of a Canadian Vendor?

I have found a few Canadian Sources for buying more Copics-I started with the Sketch, so that is likely what I will stick with. They are higher quality am I right? I think they are the ones that can be used with the airbrush system.

Just a quick FYI to anyone trying to decide between the sketch and ciao. Sketch markers are not a higher quality marker. The Ciao's are Exactly the same quality as the sketch markers except they need to be modified to work with the airbrush system. Same refillable ink, same replaceable tips.
Just didn't want anyone to be misinformed.

Thanks so much Gina for clarifying!!

So, hoping I have this right-if one isn't planning on air-brushing then either marker would be fine.

Gina-If I can't find a local vendor when I get back home to Oakville for a colorless blender, I'll be placing another order with you!:p

Just a quick addition. I do sometimes use the Stewart Superior Palette ink with my Copics but the Ranger Adirondack Pitch Black is better. When using the colorless blender, it won't smear and run .

Thanks Julia,
I haven't tried the Ranger ink yet, but now I will.

You will get lots of different opinions on that one.
Some like Papertrey Ink, some like Georgia Pacific and others do fine with Stampin' Up whisper white.

Oakville Mom - the new Curry's Art store that opened at Trafalgar and North Service Rd. carries Copic Ciao's. They have a decent selection of colours - not extensive though. You can check out their selection at www.currys.com. I am not affiliated with them - just buy from them now and again.

I to caved and bought my first set of Copics! I love to color and have been doing the gamsol and colored pencils a lot so wanted to use my SU markers for a brighter color. NOT!!! I didn't like seeing the lines and how the paper started to peel so stoped right then and went and ordered online. I can't wait until they get here!!

I'm on the fence about the Copics too ... mostly because I've not been stamping (lost my mojo several months ago:( ). My biggest problem though is choosing which colors to start with. There are so many! Decisions, decisions ...

I just love my copics but at the moment only have a set of 12. I am in the UK and love the sound of the GinaK club. Wish this was something I could do :-( Nikki x

You took the words out of my mouth

On the cardstock - my opinion is that if (or should I say when:rolleyes: I buy Copics) I would try GP first because of costs - I can handle making a few mistakes when its cost effective.

I've heard PTI is brilliant and may just indulge and be converted at some point but as a jumping off point I doubt you can beat the GP especially as you would need to mat and layer because of the bleed through of the inks.

I read this yesterday on their website! I'm hoping that I can pick up a blender from them. I'll be stopping by their store on Tuesday! Are you near Oakville? Great to find other local stampers. I also read that the college bookstore carries Copics too-which doesn't surprise me as they have the great Graphic Design course there.

Thanks so much ladies for all of your help and tips!! I have back home PTI white, and picked up 2 packs of Georgia Pacific (wow-they are great-lots of CS for a low cost!). I will just have to find my black ink-Palette or Adirondak (?sp) Any GTA locations to find these? TIA.
