I got it, but I was disappointed. I expected some step-by-step do's and don'ts about shading etc. It is not that. There are mostly specific cards decorated to show you. Want to buy my copy??
I was hoping it would be an actual coloring book. Illustrated by Marianne and printed on Copic friendly paper with step by step shading instructions and examples. That would be really helpful! Maybe they can do a Part 2.
Thanks so it is basically a book for a person who never picked up a Copic marker.
I understand the number system and basically how to blend the colors. I know the different styles of markers such as original, ciao and sketch .
I know what paper works for me.
I would like to see examples of colored images and which colors were used.
I think choosing marker colors that blend together can pose a problem

I didn't know that either and it has helped a lot in my blending. For the $10 I paid for the book I was overall really pleased with what I got.
Barbara Jay, it does show completed cards with written directions to which colors were used and in which order and which blending techniques were used.
I bought both Copic Books. The one by Marianne and Colleen and the Shading one by Marianne. I'm glad I have both books. But, the Shading one by Marianne has more step by step instructions in my opinion. I do really like both books. I too did not wait long enough sometimes for my ink to dry before adding more. That tip alone was worth it! It's not an expensive book, so I say go ahead and get one! At the very least you'll enjoy the samples.
I bought Marianne's Shadows & Shading and there are a lot of good tips in there. So I am very please with that one
I not only never had any art training, because when I was in school art was not considered necessary by my teachers nor my parents. I think I got through 8 grades on one small box of Crayola's and a 12 color pan of Prange water colors. Neither were barely touched
A few times a year on a Friday afternoon the teacher would say we could have the last half hour to do art work. No direction, no ideas.
She ( most Teachers were women then) wanted to use the time to correct papers so she didn't need to do them at home on the weekend. LOL

Thanks Judi, maybe they can do the images in the book the way you did your Copic Coloring Guides. Those are fantastic. I think they should have you colaborate!

I don't really understand this comment, unless you're trying to shade with only one marker. For example, if you have only one red marker, color your image and let it dry completely; then go over the area you want shaded with the same marker, which will give you a slightly darker color.
However, if you have the 2-3 markers recommended, shading with your darker color while your lighter color is still wet will give you seamless blending, without the hard edges.
IMO, the book isn't worth the price. Out of 64 pages, only 5 pages contain blending techniques (which is why I bought the book). 2/3 of the book are card samples, with assembly instructions. More fluff than substance.

Ladies, we appreciate everyone's feedback and we are sorry that some of you are disappointed in the book.
We would like to clarify that this book is geared towards the beginner Copic users.
The book contains not only step-by-step, photo blending tutorials (for 4 of the major blending techniques), but also information about how to read the number/color system and how to pick good blending groups (our number one request for information), along with how to successfully use the blender marker and find compatible inks and papers. All of these are shown using images from the most popular stamp companies around so that you can re-recreate the look.
The book then contains over 40 card projects that use all of the information covered in the first half of the book so that users can practice and perfect their blending skills.
The book is NOT geared towards people who already have this knowledge - although many experienced Copic users have purchased the book and given good reviews as it being a nice resource and kudos for the clearly written instructions. It is also NOT a coloring book... as our goal was to teach the blending concepts so that consumers could then apply them to their own work, not just copy images that are already colored. It is also not a book on shadows and shading, as that book was already written. Our goal is education and practice... to help build individual skills.
For those of you who wanted more... we hope to accommodate those wishes soon!

As someone just starting out with Copics, I'm looking forward to getting this book. It sounds just like what I need. I like the fact that it discusses blending techniques and has card projects.
I have both books (Marianne's light and shading) and Colleens book. Love them both. They retail for $21.00 each in Australia. I didn't know I had to let the ink dry between colours either.
There is nothing wrong with beginners books and they are very needed. The problem is many of us must buy things without seeing them and sometimes they don't meet our needs . That certainly doesn't mean a book is not good for the right person.
I suppose when I asked the question I should have shown you where I am at now with using Copics rather than just say I am not a compete beginner. I love working with Copics and wondered if this book would help me to expand my skills and learn to color more complicated images .

I have it, and I've learned from it - and I will be getting it signed by Miss Colleen when she comes back to "Pictures In Time". I think the description as a "go-to" guide is perfect because while I've picked up knowledge here and there, I really like having one reference guide with the basics available in one place - and I think I finally mastered the flick technique
Don't worry, your question was very good... as is the discussion here. I'm always open to hearing people's opinions and I am not offended by much of anything as I've learned not to take things personally.
I just wanted to make sure people knew exactly what to expect from the book. As you say, sometimes when you purchase something, it isn't what you expect. I think that most places selling the book do a nice job with the description... but I also know that sometimes people get caught up in the word Copic or in the title.
As for whether the book can be of help for you... that is a tough call. You obviously have a grasp of the coloring system and how to blend, so that part would not be new... but I also am a firm believer in review, review, review and I personally like to "go back to the basics" sometimes in my own artwork just to solidify my foundation and possibly hear old things described in new ways. So knowing that it would be information that you already have... you would need to make that call.
Either way... continue your journey with Copic markers and enjoy the coloring!

Yes Colleen remember the basics and then Practice-Practice-Practice
When I get a new stamp I stamp 8-10 images and the color each one using different colors or just perfecting a color combo I like. Some end up in the bin and other are keepers, but I learn from each one.
I think i did the anchor 6 times before I got the light source shading correct.

I have been using Copics for a couple years but still consider myself a newbie. For me the book has been very valuable. I tend to stamp images and bring them with me while waiting at my children's activities. I can't bring my computer to look up things but even if I could I just love love love books!!! I bring some Copics, my pre-stamped images and my book. And practice, practice, practice. I still have a long way to go to make my images look as nice as the book. I am very glad that I spent the money on the book and for me it is perfect. Thanks for publishing it. And I look forward to many more. (And the lessons in Card Maker have been so helpful too)
The Copic Coloring Book by Colleen Schaan & Marianne Walker ?
I even recommended it on another forum. It's more detailed and step by step then a lot of copic books I've looked at. I've learned a lot from it already and just ordered a whole bunch of copics and can't wait to use some of the techniques in the book. It's laid out and explained in a way that I finally "get" it now, and will feel more confident in my coloring. So, thank you!!
