What do you use to clean your scissors? I have a pair of the SU scissors and they have some sticky stuff on them. What is best to clean the blades with? I doubt they would tarnish or rust but dont want to find out that they do.
I love these scissors. I thought I had lost them yesterday. I found them in my sewing box with my fabric scissors. I guard those two pair of scissors like a hunter guards his gun!!
Goo Gone works great! I used it to clean scissors I'd been using to cut velcro strips. They were disgusting - almost impossible to even open - and Goo Gone did the trick.
Good Luck.

I use Goo Gone every time I have to use something sticky and my scissors are still in great shape! I just spray it on, let it sit for a little bit, and then wipe them down with a dry paper towel until all of the gunk is gone. Works perfectly!
By the way, you can find Goo Gone at the Dollar Tree stores for a buck. I think it's usually stocked near the automotive section, or ask the manager.
I keep a couple of bottles on hand for cleaning scissors and stamping tools, like my paper piercer. It gets gummed up when I pierce holes for brads in layered pieces.
Also, it's great for removing price tags from dishes and other similar hard surface things.

I also used goo gone to clean a punch that I had been punching through sheets of double sided adhesived-it was practically stuck and the goo gone got it working like new again.

hadn't thought about punches....did you just squirt it into your punch?

I dipped a Q-tip in Goo Gone and ran it around the edges-squeezed the punch a few times until it was working smoothly and then punched some paper towels to clean the excess off.
I use rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball. Works great!
One time I had the bright idea to try a Magic Eraser to clean my scissors. Well, I bunched up the eraser, and scrubbed it hard onto the scissors blade. The scissors cut right through the eraser like butter, right through to my hand. Doh! Don't try that one, kiddies!

Thanks for the warning! I love the Magic Eraser and it would have been only a matter of time and I would have done the same thing!
I used Cutter Glide and the tool cleaner that comes with it. It worked well enough. It wasn't super fast but it did do a good job. If Goo Gone is readily available and works, I would go with that!
I use my stamp cleaner that sits on my desk all the time and don't have to get up for anything else. It works best for me and I have several different kinds but if you have one with the built - in applicator just rub that on your blades wipe off with a towel or rag and voila! clean unstuck scissors. I may have to fill a mister bottle with goo gone though and start using that too. Thanks for all of your ideas.
The best thing I have found for getting the gooey stuff off of anything, is WD40. I know it sounds weird, but it works better than goo gone, alcohol, etc. I use it on anything, even on dishes. You know how the sticky part of the sticker stays and it is almost impossible to get off? Well, just spray a little WD40 on a rag, and next thing you know, the goo is gone.

You know what else works really well for sticky scissors? Avon Skin-So-Soft. I don't remember where I heard about it, but it works great if you've been cutting up EZMount or something that really gums up your scissors. And it smells good, and I don't worry about getting icky chemicals on my hands!

If you happen to be working in the kitchen away from your Goo Gone supply (I keep mine in my stamping room), try using PAM. It works on any of the sticky stuff, as will peanut butter. Just spread it on, wait a minute or two, then wipe it off.
I used to be a die hard Un-du user. (it works great, don't get me wrong).
We are in the process of a lifestyle change however, and eliminating any and all forms of chemicals in the house wherever we can.
Eucalyptus essential oil works great to remove the sticky residue from your scissors. Just a couple of drops on a cotton ball completely cleans my little Cutter Bee titanium scissors.
(BTW, it will help clear your sinuses while your at it).
A long time ago, I learned to keep a one-inch pad of clear embossing ink in my stamping kit. If you rub that pad on your scissors blades before you cut stuff like the foam mounting tape, rubber cushion, etc., it keeps the adhesive from gunking up the scissors. It also helps to clean the gunk off after the scissors have picked up the sticky mess.
It takes up very little space in the stamping kit. Clear glycerine also works. I think that may be all that is on the clear embossing pads anyway.

I use rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball too, Works great. What I have found that works well as well, is baby oil on a swab..oils your scissor at the same time and so it doesn't get sticky so fast again!

NO way! Makes complete sense. I have some. Thank You!
Doesn't WD-40 leave an oily residue that will get on your paper? I can see if getting the "goo" but then what? With that being said, I have different scissors for different things. I inherited this neurosis from my mother. One pair for paper, one for tapes.adhesives, one for trimming rubber, one for ribbons/fabrics.
I use rubbing alcohol to clean my scissors...and to clean off my work mat
I find that the SU adhesive remover (little eraser thingy!) works beautifully - very fast and no mess. Before I discovered that, I used rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball.
WD-40 for me. Works great, just be sure to wipe scissors dry with clean paper towel afterwards. Also, orange oil works great, if you are on the "green side."
Being allergic to alcohol, I can't use alcohol swabs, goo gone or anything like that. So, I use pure eucalyptus oil to clean my scissors etc when they get a build up of sticky stuff. I also use Teflon coated scissors so that I only have to clean them about once a month . As LaPrincessa'sMommy said, it gives your sinus's a good airing... lol!

There is only one thing I don't like about Goo Gone and other miracle products like the Magic Eraser and Spot Shot. I've stopped freaking out when my kids color on walls, or when they get gum or permanant marker on the carpet, etc.
My husband freaks out and I'm like "So What! Goo Gone will get the crayon and gum off and Spot Shot will get any stain out of carpet including permanant marker."
It has made life less stressful but maybe if I did freak out a little more my kids would be more careful.
I use WD40 as it also is good for the hinge part of the scissors. If I am worried about residue (for scissors that will be used on paper, I wipe with a clean cloth or a bit of alcohol). WD40 will alos remove any sticky tags or labels on glass or plastic (as will Goo-gone), but you don't have to buy an additional product. Most everyone has WD40 around the house.
I use a used fabric softener sheet -- the kind that go thru the dryer. The first time I read about that I thought, no way will that get all the gunk off. But it really works! You need to squeeze and put a bit of elbow grease into it, but I love using these cause I don't have to buy anything special, and I'm using something again before it goes into the trash.
I'd be worried about oily residue with a number of the things mentioned. I have a bud vase that I pour a little alcohol in, place the scissors in and 10-15 minutes later the goo is gone with one soft wipe to dry the blades. It's also great added to water to clean tile... but be careful that there are no matches or candles around. It burns hot and fast!
I use OMS (Odorless Mineral Spirits). Since my pump container sits on my desk for doing Gamsol Magic, I just dip a paper towel and clean the gunk off my scissors, rulers, desk top, etc. I wipe the tool again with a clean papertowel to get off any oily residue.
