I just came across a website that sells a box of 100 of double wire (the kind the Bind It All has) in assorted sizes for a decent price and they have more sizes available than Bind It All. So I contacted the company and asked for some samples and they are going to send me some so I could compare and see if they will work. I hope so because of the price difference.
Yep, you can use any brand of wire. I believe it's the 3:1 pitch that is needed. The big thing to find out is how they ship the wires. Is it just a box full of wires or are they separated out somehow? I buy my wires from Bonnie's Best. It's a good price and they come sort of divided out in the box.

I buy my wires from Bonnie, too! The pitch is actually 2:1 (2 per inch). Buying them in bulk is a great way to save a lot of money on wires. Bonnie is great, and the wires come very neatly packaged. I have 3 boxes, and no wires have been tangled.
wow thanks sooo much for letting me know about Bonnie Best link! I'll definitely use her! I just looked in that site I found and posted, forget that one... shipping is $18, crazy! And everything is like $10 more anyway. But they DO have the 1/2" which seems to be most popular size.
