Black ink for solid images
Hi all -- can anyone please tell me the best black die ink for using on solid images ??? SU black ink is useless on white cs and that used to be my go to ink. Stazon is a good ink is so sticky that it usually takes part of the stamped image back off the card. I have some amazing solid images but can't use cause I can't find a decent black - real black - ink. So any help would be awesome.
My all time favorite black ink is Versafine Onyx. However, it is a quick drying pigment ink, not a die ink.
Versafine will give you great detail on intricate stamps, either rubber or clear, and also does well for solid images. Many folks on this forum swear by it. I do, too.

I love Memento in Tuxedo Black. I don't find it to be blotchy at all with big solid stamps nor thin intricate designs. Not only does it give a nice solid black, it's ACES for clear/photopolymer stamps (my fav), doesn't bleed with Copics and dries pretty quickly!
I'm with Bugga - Versafine Onyx Black. If you're stamping solid images then it's one slight drawback (not good with Copics) doesn't make the slightest difference to you!
I'm not sure why you specifically say "dye ink" though (Versafine is an oil-based pigment ink). I think you're likely to get a better impression over a big area with a thicker ink so stepping away from the dye inks might be the way to go.
I'm another one in the Versafine camp. You're unlikely to use Copics (or other alcohol-based markers) on a solid image stamped in black, so it shouldn't matter. However, if you really want dye ink, Memento will work better if the pad is freshly re-inked.
Another vote for Versafine Onyx. It is my go-to for the darkest, crispest image. I agree with Sue, Memento if you really need a dye ink. But if you don't, Versafine will give you a better image than dye ink.

Another vote for Versafine Onyx Black. I use this black if I won't be coloring with my alcohol pens. It gives good coverage on the stamp so the impression comes out nicely. Love that the fine details show up well. If you have a large area to cover, make sure you ink pad is freshly reinked.
Memento Tuxedo Black is my go-to black ink if I will be coloring with my alcohol pens-Copics, Sharpies, etc. This ink is not as dark a black but won't bleed when using alcohol ink pens.
I use Versafine Black for almost everything. But as an alternative for solid images I also like the Tsukineko Brilliance Black - it might be Graphite Black, I'd have to check.

It is indeed Graphite Black - my second most-used black ink after Versafine! (I use it with Copics). A big advantage with Brilliance is that it dries on surfaces like acetate and vellum but it's not solvent-based so it doesn't involve the extra clean-up that you'd get with Stazon.
I have tried everything except the new GinaK black. I get the best results with Versafine Onyx. I use it with Copics and other alcohol coloring as well as watercolors. If I don't emboss it with detail clear powder then I just heat set it with my heat gun. No smearing or bleeding and you get solid coverage and fine detail. I recommend getting a reinker. You won't need it anytime soon as this pad outlasts all my others. You will use this ink pad more than any other and eventually you will want to be able to reink it and keep on stamping!

Loyce, thank you for reminding me about the tip to heat set the Versafine when using Copics. I know I've seen the tip before, but just haven't tried it.
I love Versafine and it's almost the only ink I use. When I color images stamped with it, I'm usually just very careful and color just up to the lines, and not over. It works, but takes time. I'm going to try the heat gun!

Buggainok, you are most welcome for the reminder. I always look for your posts as you have given me so many good ideas and hints in the past. I value your opinion and experience. When I read your reviews of a product or technique, they are always spot on!
I feel all fuzzy just thinking I was able to assist you in some small way for a change. Thanks a big one!
Oh Gosh, Bugga! You are in OK! Are you and yours okay? So much heartbreak for so many.
Yes, Loyce, we've had a very hard time here in my home state. Our immediate family and friends are all okay, but there were some scary moments when those terrible tornadoes ripped through here. The last big tornado was just a few miles south of where I live, and I was glued to the TV tracking it. Thankfully, it passed our area by.
I have friends of friends who lived in the area in Moore that was hit hard. So many folks lost everything, but the wonderful community is rallying around and everyone is helping wherever they can.
Thanks for your concern.
