I keep going back and forth on which machine to get.
I currently have a Sizzix machine with an alphabet and some other dies and a Sizzlets alphabet so I'd like to be able to use those in whichever machine I get.
I also like some of the Cuttlebug embossing folders and some from the BigShot.

Are all the dies usable in all the machines?
Thanks for helping clear my confusion!

I have a Big Shot, and all dies from the 3 machines you described work in it. I *love* my BS!!!!
However, not everything Big Shot will work in the Sizzix because of a difference in the feed size. Big Shot is 6" and Sizzix is smaller.
HTH,

I went with the BS, thanks Julie! I absolutely love it and have been having fun embossing and cutting all those little cute dies. It was definately is easy to use and worth every penny.

Yeah! JulieHRR sucked another person into the BigShot! I read her blog and just knew that the BS was the right choice! And I LOVE it! All of my friends are just ga-ga over the CB folders used in it!
I was also sold by Julie's blog comparison... ended up getting the BigKick simply b/c I liked it colors and price!! as I understand it is just cosmetically different from the BS - the BIGZ dies look sooooo cool... just need to be more diligent looking under sofa cushions to get $$ for them all!!
I got the BigKICK from Costco.com a couple weeks ago. $76.99 and free shipping! (5% more for non-members). Its the 10 pc starter kit, and Ive been sucking up all the CBug embossing folders I can get my hands on, and they work GREAT!!! WOWZA!
I bought a used Big Shot, and it doesn't have any instructions. Are there some pointers I should know before I start trying it out? I accessories I have are: the thick white opaque platform, two thin clear plates (are these for the "sandwich"?), a Thin Cuts Dragonfly, a "Friends!" brass template, and a Thick Cuts Tags, Traditional.
I have also purchased a few of my favorite Cuttlebug embossing folders.
I have a question. I understand that the Big Shot is by Ellison and the Big Kick is by Sizziz and they are basically the same but I am confused by the BISK everyone is talking about. Neither machine comes with the embossing materials to use with metal stencils, right? And Sizzix has a package that you buy separately for $20 for embossing metal stencils..........Is BISK the package you buy to emboss metal stencils with the Big Shot?
And I've heard that I can just use fun foam on the metal stencils in my Cuttlebug..........does the thickness matter? I have a ton of metal stencils and would love to use them but I'm trying to figure out all the options before I purchase anything else. TIA!!!!

Using Cuttlebug dies, Sizzlit and other "wafer" (thin) style dies on BS or BK machine, stack from the bottom up, starting with:
white platform
clear plate
die (blades facing up)
paper or whatever material you are cutting
clear plate
Using Sizzix Originals, Thick Cuts dies:
eliminate the white platform, follow the same formula
For embossing, using BS/BK, Sizzix, Cuttlebug embossing FOLDERS:
white platform
clear plate
embossing folder with paper inside
clear plate
No other accessories are necessary.
For embossing using OTHER/OFF-brand brass stencils on the BS/BK:
It is recommended that you purchase the Big Impressions Starter Kit (BISK), which features an impression plate, a silicone rubber mat (that presses the paper through the brass stencil), and several wonderful texture plates.
However, it is recommended that you also purchase the Big Shot Multi-Purpose Platform (BSMP), which had built in shims and instructions printed right on it for how to layer the shims, which are hinged at one end of this platform for using the BISK, and off-brand brass embossing stencils.
Note: The BISK can also be used on the Cuttlebug, but the BSMP is too wide to fit through the feed on the Cuttlebug.

If you are using THEIR brand embossing folders, you don't need anything else than what the machine came with.
If you are using OFF-BRAND brass stencils, you can mess around creating your own shims until you find the combo that works, OR, save yourself the agony, by purchasing the BISK, and the BSMP. ;) That's what I did.

Yes.

Some have claimed success with thin mouse pads, and others have claimed dismal results with them.
Most have figured out which results they prefer through experimentation, and if you're gonna use fun foam, you'll have to experiment and see if you like what you get.
I personally don't have that kind of patience . . . but, since you already own a CB, I highly recommend reading the thread I've pointed to down below your next comment:

This thread will provide helpful info on embossing with off-brand products in the Cuttlebug:
Thanks so much, Julie! That's exactly what I was looking for, and have printed it up to keep with my BS. I had previously contacted Ellison Design via the web-site to request an instruction sheet, but haven't heard back from them yet.
Julie,
Since you are the expert, this question is toward you, but anyone can help. I saw your customer review on Joann.com for the Big Shot, so my question is this. Does it come with a multipurpose platform like the Big Kick, or is it a regular platform? The Big Shot says it comes with a platform, but is it mutlipurpose so I can do Sizzlets and other dies too? I wish they would explain it better in the description. If anyone has ordered the Big Shot from Joanns, could you let me know if it is a multipurpose platform, or a regular one.

The above Big Shot Kit comes with the plain white platform, not the Multi-Purpose Platform. You would have to purchase it separately.
I haven't had a need to use the BSMP with my Big Shot, when using Sizzlit dies, Cuttlebug dies OR, Cuttlebug Embossing folders, however.
I have actually only needed it for embossing with the BS texture plates and Fiskars Texture Plates . . .
Interesting that now they've released the BK in a kit, it comes WITH the multi-purpose platform . . . hmmmmmmm. Wonder why that is . . .
I guess if I were to choose between them NOW, I'd go for the BK because it comes pre-packed with a Multi-Purpose Platform . . . altho . . . I must confess . . . I think the red and white color combo on it quite hideous . . .
Kinda hurts my eyes! LOL! :p

Thanks Julie. Isn't it funny how great they describe all the accessories for the BK, but don't picture any of it, and on the BS it pictures everything, but they hardly describe any of it.
On another note~ I tried ordering the BigKick from there with a couple other things and tried using the free shipping code with $35 or more purchase, and it won't let me check out with free shipping. It says I don't meet the minimum amount to qualify for the free shipping. So I wrote an e-mail complaining about that and if theyy want my sale for the $136, they will have to give me free shipping plus 10% off the order. We will see what happens with that.
I go the big shot becuase costco.com had it for a gret price last year. I can't remeber how much, but it was under $90. They now have a big sizzix that is pretty much the same as the bs. It is a great price on costco.com.
Someone just informed me that costco.com has the BigKick for $76.99!!! I think I will get it there since joann.com hasn't responded yet and that is a great price.
