A friend of mine gave me her unused large can of aerosol spray adhesive - it has a ball it or something, kinda like spray paint. Anyway, I have never used this type of stuff before and wondered if any of you lovely ladies have?
Has anyone used this type of adhesive before? If so, on what?
Can I use it to protect things like an altered tin or clipboard?
Does it really stick well?
Is it really sticky - and get on everything, in a bad way?

It's funny that you posted this because I used a spray adhesive for the very first time today! My SU demo demonstrated it at our stamp camp. She stamped Lovely as a Tree onto white cardstock; sprayed the adhesive; and then layered a dryer sheet over that. The dryer sheet adheres to the adhesive and then you trim the excess. It's quite a pretty effect. I'm not sure what else you would use the spray adhesive for. I will also tell you that after I sprayed mine today, I accidentally dropped the piece of cardstock onto the table. It seemed to adhere pretty well but I was able to peel it off the paper it fell onto quite easily, so it made me wonder how strong it really is.
Well...if it's like the stuff I have...I think the best way to describe it would be aerosol rubber cement. I use it once in awhile when I have something large that I need to adhere. It sticks very well paper to paper, but it has some definite disadvantages. The fumes are pretty noxious, so you need good ventilation or better yet, use it outside. Outside works best for me because then I don't have to worry about getting sticky overspray on anything.
So bottom line: it has its uses, but I don't think spray adhesive is a good choice for a general purpose adhesive. If yours is the same as mine (and it probably is), it definitely won't work as a sealer. There are plenty of spray sealers in the market -- I happen to be using Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic right now, but that's just because it was handy. For a clipboard, though, I would probably just use good old-fashioned Mod Podge
I've never used spray adhesive myself, but can tell you that I've heard it glues paper/cardstock layers together really well. A woman who owns a stamp shop in my town uses only spray adhesive on her cards. She said the glue holds up well over time, whereas cards that have been put together with glue sticks, adhesive tape, etc. will sometimes come apart. I think she finds spray adhesive quick and easy to use as well. When at home, she does the spraying outside... partly because of the fumes and because she doesn't want the adhesive getting in the air and landing on her table, floor, food, etc.

I bought a can of the spray adhesive a while back for scrapbooking, I really didn't like it, the spray is uniform and you dont get any lumps but; The fumes were aweful and my main complaint was that the spray is wide so some lands on your table, carpet or furniture. Whatever happens to be around your work area. I quit using it- and went back to regular adhesives... after spending several hours scraping glue beads off the mirrored wall in our dining room. hth some.
I use mine occasionally when I have larger pieces I want to stick together. I like that you can spray the hole piece so the edges of whatever your sticking stay down flat. I made "in session" door hangers for co-workers at work and this worked wonderfully to hold dp onto the finished door hangers. It gave me about a minute of moving time to adjust the paper before it set. Here is an example: In Session Door Hanger by corinnesmith at Splitcoaststampers
I made these back in November 2006 and we use them daily in a busy office and the paper has never lifted at all.
I wouldn't use it for normal wear and tear projects though because of the mess and/or fumes. I do just use paper behind whatever I'm spraying so it doesn't get on everything. Also, it gets messy on my fingers and I haven't found a way around that other then just washing them.
I always have a can on hand for all sorts of odd craft work. I always use it to adhere vellem to cards, I spray outside though ( not on a windy day though ) let it get tacky for a minute or two then stick it down. Always use a light even sweeping spray at arms length so as not to get big drops. Practice on some scrap vellum pieces. I think it is worth it. Good luck
I know this is an older thread, but I use spray adhesive all the time. I often print sentiments on the computer for the inside of the card. I use the spray adhesive to attach this liner to the inside. I have a cardboard box that I spray into, because I dont want any overspray on my carpet or other parts of my craft area.
I have used it for the main (larger) layers on a card. But, because of the over-spray, I usually step out to the garage, put the cardstock on top of the newspaper bin and spray it there. It is really, really sticky and you don't want to get it on anything else.
Now that I have a tape gun I probably won't use the spray for cards again. Maybe for s built out of cardboard boxes when my grandson is here.....
