Window cut out thru my printer?

I have a box of 5.25 x 7 colored cards from Michael's, with a 2 inch square "window" cut out of the front. The cards are on nice quality stock, however I'm having a problem trying to run them thru my Canon L feed printer to get the inside verse printed. It starts to feed and then jams and tears on the side with the window. Does someone have a remedy? The best solution I have so far is to print the verse/sentiment on a separate piece of paper and attach to the inside of the card. TIA.

could you lightly tape inconspicously (or however you spell it) a piece of paper or cardstock over the opening while it goes thru the printer then remove it?

I think you need to have it so that you are feeding straight through, like from a rear-feed. If your paper has to go through a spool, I dont' think it will work.

Also, if you have designed it so that the window side feeds through first, see what happens if you flip it so tht you have to feed the flat side first. (this means you'll likely have to alter how you have the document set up with your sentiment, but I hope you understand what I am saying.)

Are the cards thick? To run thicker card stock through my printer, I need to change my printer setting for thick card stock or a heavy weight paper.

I would cut a 2" square of the same weight cardstock to fit the window, then attach it with removable tape. I had a series of window cards that I printed first, then cut the window for this very reason. But temporarily filling up the window should work. I have used drafting tape - it won't ruin your card if you're careful.
