Default Watercolor Wash Technique

I would really like to try the watercolor wash technique, however it says you need re-inkers which I don't have. Is there something I could use to substitute without having to go out and buy something else. I'm about spent out this month, hahahaha!

I would think that you could smoosh your inkpad to the lid to pick up color there and add some water. Or scribble with marker and add some water.
moving this to techniques.
