tI recently learned a new technique--using paint chip samples on cards. (By paint chips I mean the color samples you find in stores to see what paint colors are available.) You basically use them as an accent or layer on your card. I notice many of the chips are close to SU colors, so that works great for me. (A note, however. I've heard of some people clearing out the racks. I think that's kinda rude for the people who actually want to paint! I just take a couple at a time.)
I did one for the shoebox swap at the San Antonio regionals gathering. Here's the link if you want to take a look. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
You have to use stazon or craft pad to make sure the ink will stick. Regular ink just wipes right off. :( KILZ brand paint (sold at Wal-mart) has single color chips that come in a cool shape.

If you go to Home Depot, they have paint chips from Behr. These are THE best as they are really big. You can cut off all the words and still have plenty of color left to create your cards. I usually take 4 of one sample when I'm there. My husband just turns the other way and says, "I don't know you!!"
Lowe's also has big paint chips with three colors and some with four colors. Everytime we go there, I grab a few in a few colors. Since we just bought a new house and are there every other week, I have quite the collection. The classic ink does not work on them even if you heat gun dry them. They get all smudgy. Staz On works good or you can just use them to add a splash of color on the card. I have crimped one and attatched it with eyelets for decoration before.

I love using paint chips! I'm not sure how to do one of those links but I'll try-if it doesn't work, there's a sample in my gallery-kingmontmom called Pink B-day which uses a pink strip and the tickled pink set. Here's my attempt at a link:

okay, that didn't work, can anyone explain how I insert a URL?
thanks in advance!

I always go to the page I want to link to ,click on the address bar and pull down the edit drop box, click on copy. Go to the thread you want to post on, type your post and the go back to the edit box and click on paste. It's always worked for me. HTH!
I'm guilty - I took 45 from Loew's last weekend for a mini album swap i am in. they're cool too! They have squares cut out of the chip - three squares on the chip - one for each shade. I am going to alternate my pages so they act like a frame for the next page.
I have a card in my gallery that I did for a swap, but I did not use any thing but classic black to stamp on it and it came out fine. It was also one of the ones from lowe's with the squares cut out but I used a circle punch to have the room to stamp the flowers.

I used the Ancient Page inks and had no problem with smudging.

Personally, I love the paint color names being on the paint chips, somehow they always seem to fit the card.
I have a funny story about gathering paint chips. We are on a temporary relocation overseas. I was visiting my friend Marge in Connecticut in September. I told everyone I ran away from home (4 boys and hubby left here while I went to play!). So, I saw these cards done with paint chips but they're harder to get here. So we went out one evening to "steal" a bunch of samples. We told her DH to come bail us out if we were not back in 2 hours.
My DH is always doing some sort of project around the house, so we are at Lowes or Home Depot on a weekly basis. Our first stop is always the paint chips & then the Laminate samples.
Last week I had to laugh because a Man was there with a bunch of samples in his hand that he was trying to find the exact same samples for. I saw what he was doing & I said, "your Wife must be a scrapbooker!" The Man turned red & replied, "It's that obvious, is it?!" My DH got a good laugh because he thought I was the only one that made their DH go & snag a few okay a bunch of samples!! :o)
Wal-Mart, K-Mart & other Stores also carry the chips. I never take all of one color I generally will take 2 here & there.
They make easy bookmarks too. Just stamp and then punch a hole at the top and thread ribbon or fibers through the hole. Attach to the front of your card by making 2 x slits through the card front, just slightly wider than the paint chip bookmark, and thread the bookmark through the slits to hold it in place. These are great cards to make if you are giving a book to someone as a gift.
There are a few samples on this page in my website: http://groups.msn.com/Tillyshandmade...re.msnw?Page=2
I stamped with pigment inks and embossed with clear EP to make sure the image stayed permanent.
Wow, there are a lot of good ideas here! I'll have to take a look at some of the other stores for different types of samples. I personally like to leave the writing on the samples. It looks kind of neat, and most people don't seem to notice the writing's still there.
Now, bookmarks with paint chips--that's a neat idea! Gonna give that a try.
The thing the chair is stamped on is the paint chip. The KILZ chips only have one color on them. I used Staz-on ink because regular ink just wipes off.

my favorite card that used paint chips was in a stamper's magazine recently (don't remember which one). but they had taken a paint chip in shades of green, and cut it into real thin and long strips - when on the card it looked like bamboo......
very neat!
Went to the local hardware store over lunch. If any of you can find the Dutch Boy samples, they're great! They are smaller square size (wish they were bigger. . ) BUT come in different textures and even a crackle pattern! Very cool and certainly worth a look.
