Thank you, I have been looking for this project for awhile now. I can't wait to try it. I know several people I can give these to for Christmas presents. Thanks again, Kelli
Hi there!
I am really, really new to this site, so I am hoping that I am replying to this thread correctly.
I've made tile coasters before with my son when he was little. But, all I did was go to Home Depot and get tiles from the bathroom section of the store. They came out ok, but they definately had that unfinshed tile look. So, I'm wondering if "Tumbled Tiles" are something different? They look so nice in the photo- can someone please tell me where to get them and what I'm looking for?
You can get tumbled tiles at Lowe's or Home Depot. I can't remember the spelling of the ones I buy, but it is something like Botticia? I can't wait to try this. Thanks for sharing!
Yes you buy them at Lowes they are called Botticino. I also wanted to make trivits to go along with my coasters. They didn't have the tumbled tiles in that size but I was allowed to special order 4 for $8.50. I won't be making these with a picture but I thought it was a good deal especially when they allowed me to order so few. Good luck!!
I printed pictures on velum. I used modge podge type material and sucessfully adhered the photo to the tile, but then the ink smeared when I tried to coat the top of the picture with modge podge. Any hints?

I wonder if you printed your picture on the vellum then quickly added clear embossing powder and heat set and seal the ink and to keep it from smearing when the modge podge was applied? Do you think that might work? I haven't made these yet but have been thinking about it
I have had things smear with Vellum before also especially any kind of stamping on it. Its very slick, even the texured velum. Maybe the tissue is the trick because its not slick. I would give that a try. Hope it works.
