Any tips on stamping a tshirt? Should I use craft ink? Do I need DD stamps? I'm thinking thinner lined stamps might not work as well.
I know they are supposed to be washed without fabric softener, correct?
Let me know if there are any other tips I need to know about!
I've stamped fabrics before. You are right that you need to prewash without fabric softener. Bolder images - or less detailed images - work best. You can use thin-lined images, but I would steer clear of those with lots of detail. (People will be leaning to within inches of your chest to see what they are! LOL) Once you're finished stamping, you can put the shirt in a hot dryer for a few minutes then iron to heat set the ink. Also be sure to put cardboard or something between the layers so the ink doesn't bleed through to the other side of the shirt while you're stamping.
I recommend testing your stamps/ink on a scrap of the same fabric. This way you can see if you're ink pads need more ink before you start on the "real" thing. And have your Stamp-a-ma-jig ready (if you have one) in case you want to "fix" an image that didn't stamp quite all the way.
Use craft ink. I did this a few months ago and was amazed at how quickly it dries, or soaks into the fabric. I did like Nan said with the iron and dryer, but I think I ironed first with a piece of copy paper between the shirt and the iron and then I threw them in the dryer for good measure!
I've done it with fabric paint. Remember to put cardboard or foil (or some other barrier) inside the shirt so that the paint does not seep through to the other side of the shirt.
