Default Scrapbooking ideas...Adhesives...

Although I'm a SU demostrator, I haven't ventured much into the scrapbooking arena. I've only done about 6 pages so far.

I just purchased my 16yod a scrapbook at Costco last night and she's HOT to trot to get it filled in...She puts me to shame and did 5 pages in one night. She'll have that book filled in no time.

My question is this. We used my mono adhesive last night. Is this a good choice fro scrapbooks? Someone told me about a repositionable adhesive SU sells, but I can't find it anywhere...

Anybody have suggestions for adhesives for a scrapbook page? I don't want all my dd's hard work to disintegrate in a couple years.

tia for your words of wisdom, whoever posts...

Default Scrapbooking ideas...Adhesives

Hi,

I am an avid scrapbooker, and it has been my experience to use respositionable acid free adhesive when working with photos. I use the Hermafix adhesives when working with my pictures. When I am applying embellishments, other paper, ribbon etc., then I use the mono Tombo adhesive, as it sticks a lot better. The thing about the Tombo is that when you try to reposition it on photo paper, it can tear the back of the photo paper. It is made to stick. So I prefer to use the Hermafix tabs (I am sure there are other brands out there to use) because it is repositionable and won't tear the back of your picture if you decide to place it somewhere else. Also you can buy the Hermafix at Wal-Mart. Hope this helps..... Happy stamping and scrappin....

SU still has the Hermafix transfer although it is not listed in the catalog. It's acid-free and repositionable. I prefer this over Mono-adhesive. I don't find that Mono sticks very well.

Default S/B Adhesive Options

I think I'm about as addicted to adhesives as I am to everything else about this hobby.....

As much as everyone touts that Hermafix (a.k.a. "Dotto") is supposed to "...become permanent over time..." I'm finding that layouts that I did as short as 2.5 years ago are not holding together. And trust me when I tell you that I 'm heavy handed and *extremely* generous with adhesive! Did a "demo for demos" last summer and you should have heard the collective gasp when they saw how much adhesive I used (and they're glad I'm not at their stamp camps, believe me!)

Anyhow, I really prefer Tombow Mono - can't beat it. It's cheap and easy. Yeah, it's "got the stick" so to speak, but nothing that a small of UnDu can't fix if I have a problem. Also *really* prefer Xyron - but forget the repositionable, same problem with it not holding up over time; can come up with UnDu as well. CM has some great adhesives - but they're patented...and who can afford $5 refills if she's heavy handed? I use the smallest CM (1mm x 1mm "squares" for small, tight spaces that "catch"...)

Personally can't stand glue sticks or liquid adhesives - they warp the papers and c/s even when they claim they don't/won't. ZIG 2-Way glue is great for adhering transparencies to paper, but otherwise I find that it is too "wet." I *love* Glue Dots (a.k.a. "Snot Dots" - just let your kids get ahold of those and you'll know exactly what I mean...looks like a bunch of boogers on the walls....) for heavy job and for adhering metallic accents to the page. Glue Dots also work wonders for keeping lengths of ribbon onto 12x12 pages. They can *keep* those darn Glue Lines, though...never had so many problems with an adhesive, finally tossed them into the trash. Since they begin long, they continue to "stretch" as you try to adhere them to your project...talk about a gooey looey...

HTH helps. As you can tell, I have a heavy hand on the keyboard, too! ~ K
