Hi Carrie Ann!

I found the instructions right here on SCS. There was a link to another website that had very detailed steps, but here are the basics.

First: I use only RSVP pens because the lids don't come in contact with the beaded part of the pen. To make the 'sparkle paint' I put a TBSP of Crystal Effects in a 35mm film canister and pour in some Dazz Diam. Mix with paint brush. This will keep for months as long as the canister is air tight, you will just need to re-mix as diamonds will settle to the bottom.
  • Cut strip of copy paper (or designer paper) to fit length of the pen
  • Stamp or wheel on the strip in bright colors as the beads will tone the color down
  • Cut stamped paper again to fit the diameter of the pen
  • Put 2 Way Glue on the back side of your paper, particularly on the edges
  • Roll this around the pen - it should stick and not overlap too much
  • Starting at the seam that you just created with the paper, adhere vertical pieces of Sticky Strip to your paper
  • Do not remove the top pink cover of the SS, as it will make the pen very hard to handle (had a customer do this)
  • Do not overlap your SS as it will make the pen bulky
  • It takes me 5 strips of SS to get around the pen. If there little spaces, it's okay as the beads will fill that in
  • Remove pink strip from SS exposing the tape. Touching the SS will deminish it's 'sticking' power
  • Put microbeads in small powder pal
  • Roll pen in beads putting a little pressure on the beads and pen so they stick
  • Roll beaded pen in your hands to make the beads stick into the strip and create a little heat (some use heat gun too)
  • Using a medium tip paint brush, brush on the CE/DD mixture. I make sure I get the beads at the top and bottom of the pen really well so it will survive being in someone's purse.
  • CE will look cloudy on the pen, but it will dry clear and sparkly.
  • I let them dry horizontally between two ink pads so they aren't touching the table.
I know this looks like a lot of directions, but it really is easy and fun!

You will get about 10 pens from a container of microbeads. Can't remember about the SS because I have half used rolls all over the place.

FYI: One tip I learned the hard way, and saw on SCS after my beaded pen debacle is to not touch the beads with your bare hands...the natural oils from your skin get on the beads and they won't stick to the tape as well or at all! For the steps where you actually touch the beads, I put a plastic bag over my hand (because I'm way too lazy to go to DH's workshop and get a latex glove!) so my skin doesn't contact the beads. Be careful when rolling the pen in the beads, too, so you don't touch them then, either...

HTH and good luck! These can be addicting!
