Default Need help with a silhouette portrait machine

Please help me out.

I bought a new silhouette portrait machine and hooked it up Friday. I love it except for one thing.

If a shape that is downloaded from the silhouette store has several shapes, how do I get rid of all of them, except the shape that I want to cut out.

For example, the ice cream cone has 2 shapes and I only want to cut out one with the brown cardstock and then change to pink cardstock for the ice cream.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Once you pull the file to your mat, just highlight and delete the items you're not using for that project. They are still there in your file, just not on your project. Make sense?

I know what you mean....I've only had mine for a few weeks. I'm a 61 year old who's not afraid to try! You can always hit the back button to restore anything!

They way I do it is by ungrouping the objects and then delete the pieces I don't want. If it's a shape with tiny designs and cutouts that I don't want then I release the compound path and delete those parts. I'm not sure that is right, but it works for me.

I right click to get the ungrouping option. If you do not save what you have ungrouped the original image should stay the way you purchased it.

I tried it last night and it worked! Thanks to everyone for the help and from saving me from having a nervous breakdown!

I am sure as I continue to play with it, I will have more questions and need more help!

You can also just ungroup and then move the pieces you don't want to cut off the mat area. Then when you're ready to cut the other pieces, just move them back on and move off the piece you just cut.

I open the file onto the work area, then open a new (2nd) page. Right click on the shape you want to cut from separate card/paper,click 'Cut' ,then open the 2nd page, right click and Paste. Now you have your two parts on separate pages. You can then 'save' both pages to your library, so if its a file you would nearly always do this with, you can save yourself the time doing this every use. It will also save the original as it was, so you aren't destroying the original file
