Ok, I feel dumb for asking this, but I often see cards with different cardstock or paper replacing the paper or vellum in a metal edge tag. Is the vellum simply removed and then the metal tag edge glued onto something else which is then trimmed? (Or is there some neat trick to put a different paper inside?) If that's the case, why don't people simply cut a square to fit inside and adhere it onto the vellum without removing it?
Sorry if this doesn't make sense and all, but I'd like to do a project with the designer series paper and metal edge tags and want to do this the best way.
You can use one of the large round or square hole punches and glue over the existing card stock or vellum.... works great. if you pull the existing cardstock or vellum out... I would think it would be almost impossible to get the new one in the tiny slot.
There is a new tool out from Making Memories too. You buy the matal tags and put your own paper or photos in them. The tool crimps the edges of the metal tags down on your insert. They run around $26.00 I think. You can get packages of tags in several different shapes.
I bought the Making Memories one and it works like a dream, plus you can buy all kinds of different shapes of tags, hearts, squares, rectangles . I made some tags out of patterned vellum and then used co-ordinating vellum on a card. It was sooooo pretty!!!
I agree with Sandra, use the large punches. The making memories tool might work well; however, I rather see you sell our supplies rather than theirs!!! LOL!
Love ya~

There was a really cool technique posted by someone on here last year about making faux metal tags. She punched a circle out of any color paper, then put Versamark ink around the edge, added a silver or other metallic embossing powder, heat it and - voila - it looked great. I think she may have had a circle rubber stamp or made one from a piece of rubber pipe seal from the hardware store. Um, maybe it was Beate? She does many of the tutorials here. Those metal edge tags are a bit expensive, so I thought that was a great alternative.

Making Memories now sells a Tag Maker. It's a tool where you use a template and then the metal frames for what ever shape you want. MM is going to discontine selling the metal rimmed tags at some point because of this tool.
I just use the right size of circle punch and punch what ever paper I want because I don't have this tag maker yet.
I have the Making Memories Tag Maker and love it! It is easy to use. Got it at Archievers, using the 30% off coupon. About 20 bucks and it comes with some blank tags.
