Default Ink smearing when using prismacolor pencils and OMS

Hi Everyone:

I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer for me. I LOVE using prismacolor pencils and OMS to color my images. So far I've been able to do a decent job using this technique. I usually stamp my image on Whisper White with Stazon Ink. I let it sit for a few minutes and then start coloring. If the image is mainly open, with a few line or shading I don't have any problems with smearing. However, I recently tried to use one of my Hero Arts cupcake images. The image has some little specks in the cup cake liner. When I started blending my color, the black lines got smeared and made the color look bad. Any tips or suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Thanks for the help ladies!!!

Amy

Hi Amy!! I have not used Stazon and Whisper White in a long time, though when I used Stazon ink I never had any problems. What I mainly use now is Versafine Ink (excellent, especially for detailed stamps!!) and either GP White 110 that you can get at Wal-Mart for a great price or Papertrey's white cardstock and have not had any problems with the ink bleeding. I have also heard that the Memento Ink works real well with the technique too (however I have not tried it yet)!!
HTH!!!! Good luck!!

You might just need to let your image sit a little longer before starting to color. I use Stazon ink and Stampin' Up papers and don't have a smearing problem. I usually let my images sit a good 10 minutes or more after I stamp them, to make sure the ink is really dry.

I use India Ink, it dries quick and never smears regardless of how detailed the stamp is..or what paper I use...perhaps you would like that. :-D

I switched to versafine too and havent have any problems. If I'm anxious, I just heat set it a little too, just to make sure it's all dry.

I stopped using whisper white card, that I think is where the problem is. I bought an office supply store pack of white card and it was excellent. When comparing the 2 cardstocks the WW has a coating on it, thus causing the ink to smear. I have no problems now.

I too love to color I'd love for you to check out my gallery

This is happening to me too! (That's how I found this thread)!! I was wondering if the smearing of the black StazOn was because I was using generic odorless mineral spirits instead of Gamsol or the Artist's grade OMS. Do you think that could be the problem??
