I am very attracted to a lot of the inchy cards that I have seen but I don't really know anything about making them. I have made one now, which style wise I am happy enough with, but I figure that there has got to be a better way of making sure that the squares are accurately cut. I have checked out a couple of blogs but can't really see a general introduction to the technique. Can anyone direct me to somewhere they can recommend? Thanks in advance

You could use a 1" square punch to cut them out. I don't have a punch that size, so I had to use my trimmer - PITA - so that's why I've only made a couple inchie cards.
You can also buy "inchies" - I cut my own to start off with but I finally decided that spending a little on pre-cut squares saved so much fiddling that it was worth it! I buy chipboard ones from a local (UK) source so I won't be much use in recommending where to get those but I know Ellen Hutson stocks the Inchie Arts ones in various different colours.
I do occasionally stil cut my own, especially if I want to crop out just a portion of a bigger image as I tend to do that by laying a 1" "hole" in scrap paper over my stamped image so I can choose exactly the portion I want. I just add pencil dots in the corners and then use a ruler and blade to cut it out (I did it with this card, for example).
If you haven't already found it, check out the Inchie Inklings blog - Lisa Strahl posts sketches to use with inchies on cards - fun!
Can someone tell me what "inchie cards" are please?
"Inchies" are little one-inch square pieces... either just straight patterned paper or something more embellished. I'm not 100% positive but from the look of the blog link, an inchie card is just a card that's used inchies for the main focal images. HTH!
Me too. I have a 1 inch square punch and a 3/4 inch square punch. But then......I saw a post or blog somewhere, where the artist drew a 1"x1" grid on a piece of white paper, watercolor paper I think, Painted a very abstract sort of design on it and then cut it up into 1 inch squares. I guess you could do that and still punch out 1 inch squares. I prefer the punch it out one at a time method. I just finished inchie based card candy for a swap.
Last Halloween, I took inchies three dimensional by building little haunted houses whose measurements all were one inch. I made over a dozen, it was a lot of fun and they make great "little somethings" to go with a Halloween treat for friends and family.

Thanks everyone for the helpful tips and the blog link. I bought a couple of punches today to use with inchies, and I have the day free tomorrow so I will be spending some time experimenting

I bought a container of hundreds of cut colored squares sort of assuming they were an inch in size. Surprise, when I got home and measured them they were more like an inchy and a halfy! They work fine anyway!
Glad you were able to use your inchy and a halfy squares
I bought a square punch and a circle punch a few days ago, both labelled one and a half inches. They are both one inch. Very strange, but luckily I didn't have either so all's well.

I have no explanation for the circle but sometimes a square punch will label the diagonal measurement for some reason and the diagonal on a 1" square is pretty much an inch and a half. A circle measures the same however you measure it though so that one's just weird!
I really love making inchie cards. I bought some here and love them. They are made of matboard so have a little more heft to them. Here is a card I made with them ... very simple but fun! I have made some using punches too but like the inchies since they sit up a bit higher. Even bought 'twinchies'!

Inka-dink-a-doo has an INCHIE line....they sell the clear plastic clings for about $5 a sheet (theme sheets). I just designed a 6x6 card using 9 inches birthday theme...Fun!

Have fun with your punches!
Yes, I found out that the square punches are labeled the diagonal measurement. I didn't know this when I bought it. I bought one labeled 3" but it was 2" something. I took it back to the store and the gal gave me a hard time because I had opened it but eventually i got a store credit. These were the days before the Nesties.
This thread is inspiring me to attack an inchie card again. It's been a while and with all the cute teeny stamps out there along with stamps designed especially for inchies it makes for fun designing.

I have done that and included other 'chochka's" along like beads and miniature wooden spoons (sister is a jewelry designer and loves to bake)...did a cute B-day theme...

As I was glancing up and down the forum it struck me that the avatars with our IDs are almost inchies.
I vote for Susanne's avatar as my fave inchy since I love beach scenes!
I can just see it on a card or an ATC!
